"RBs are easy to replace. Spurs rule"

"City screwed themselves by not having any RBs"
Its not as contradictory as it seems --- City need home grown players, and they currently have no RB s on the roster.  Spurs have plenty of HG players, and Trippier replaced Walker as first choice RB last season.  So Spurs are going to add a back-up RB - which is easier than adding a starting RB....

In fairness, Spurs have their replacement in-house already.  Trippier is a different type of right back, but not really much of a downgrade, IMO.  Probably delivers the best right-footed crosses in the EPL.
This.  Trippier is a better attacking option, and better wingback.  Walker was a better defensive option, and better fullback.

I think he will struggle a little bit in Pep's possession-based tactics, but he should be solid enough in defense.  As long as Sterling is on their team, Walker won't be the most over-paid player on their roster...

Walker has ridiculous speed.  One of the fastest  players in the world.  He used to rely on it to make up for being out of position, but over the last few years he's become much better in that area.  His speed in transition really gives him a high ceiling.

I like Trippier, but I think Walker is not only better now, but has a lot more potential (he's only a year older than Trippier).

I don't agree that Trippier is a better attacking option right now.  He can cross better, but Walker is much faster and has better positioning.  Walker can commit to attacking with less team defense risk.  The defensive midfielder(s) can reliably sit up higher and steal/counter-attack in transition as opposed to covering.

He's 27!  There isn't some better Kyle Walker out there.  This is what he is.  Athletic but lacking end product.  I'm not counting on Trippier to develop into anything else either.  He's also what he is.

Trippier replaced Walker at the end of last season - they were rotating, but Trippier played against Chelsea, Arsenal and Man United.

When Spurs set up with the 3421 - the wingbacks don't need to have the same pace, nor positioning, because they play so high up the pitch, and the outside CBs help cover the flanks.

When playing as FBs - then yes, Walker's pace and positioning are more important.  Assuming rumors are true, the back up Spurs are getting is Ricardo Pereira, who is also more wing back than FB, and with Kyle Walker-Peters coming through from the academy he is also more wingback than fullback.  So, I think its a pretty clear indication this is the direction Spurs are going.  Toss in £50-60M on top - its a great deal for Spurs, and the club will be improved over last season.

He's really improved over the last few years in both positioning and defending (without giving up his offensive threat).  Soccer players normally peak at around 27, but defenders are at the top end of that curve.  I think he will get better.

Trippier will also get better as he gets more experience.  He really hasn't played much in the EPL.

Walker also wanted to leave so selling him for $50MM is a fantastic deal.  I just don't think Trippier is a like for like replacement.  I think Walker is a fair amount better.

@CletiusMaximus   - What can you tell me about Tammy Abraham?  With Siggy heading out the door I really hope he is a special talent or Swansea is in serious trouble this year.
He has done everything you can expect from a 19 year old striker, for club and country, and just signed a new 5 year deal at Chelsea. He lead the line for academy teams that won multiple FA Youth Cups and UEFA Youth League championships. He's played for England at U17, U18 and U21 this summer, scoring boatloads. He scored 26 goals in the Championship (for Bristol City) last season, easily the most any teenager has scored in the championship for over 20 years. I've seen very little of him though. He started for the first team at Anfield a couple years ago and started at least once at the Bridge. We're all watching very closely. Some say he's more of a poacher, and it does seem he scores most of his goals from inside the area. He's obviously well-known by Paul Clement, who coached him in Chelsea's academy and is the reason he's at Swansea this year.

Roma on the verge of signing the 19 yr old "Turkish Dybala"; Cengiz Under (pronounced Dzen-gi Oohnder).

What a glorious name.

phenomenal talent, too.  Salah can lick my ballahs.

I saw some pictures on twitter from earlier in the night.   It was delayed because of a MASSIVE storm.  I assume the storm did not end in time and they had to postpone.
Damn, that sucks.  I heard there were, like, 300 Cinci fans that traveled for the match.

It's a funny old game: In Germany they pay 15 mill Euro for a proven international player. In England they pay 30 for someone's bus driver

This is taking on some steam with multiple reporters stating a similar result.  Ibra's agent said they expect to announce something soon

It's the end of the road for Ibra & Utd. He'll shortly be signing for LA Galaxy

First they removed the on demand feature. Now you can't stream for free. #### suckers!
I would pay $50 to stream them all for free.  They really ####ed fans though by splitting it between cable and streaming though.  You have to have both to see the games you want.

Agreed - for an old codger like me who is impatient and easily frustrated by tech, the $50 isn't the issue. The problem is having to manage two different sources and figure out where my games are every weekend and how I get to them. Maybe I'm overstating it, we'll see.

for a cheap, old un-EPL-attached ******* like me... this will likely serve to streamline my choices of games to watch and save me those hours of staring blankly at the screen, unable to decide.

Yeah, it's pretty clear the fans were the odd man out in the battle between the cable/satellite companies, NBCs revenue stream, and the fans.

This keeps wannabe cord cutters like me in the cable package while simultaneously forcing us to pay for streaming.  Just let me pay to stream all the games through NBC or throw the cost at the cable companies and let them sort out how to deliver it.

Whoa.

OK, so Kyle Walker really fetched 15 million more than Bonucci?  A 30 year old CB is no older than a 27 year old full back.  And Bonucci is a FIFPRO XI caliber player.
He didn't want to leave Italy because of his wife & infirm child.  There was a huge spat at HT of the CL Final; him & Alves berating Dybala in the locker room, calling out others too.  Both he & Alves are now gone...forcibly, the perception.

Its crazy, but I assume Bonucci didn't want to leave Italy.  Manchester v Milan ... ??
I think its partly that City, in general, have cash to burn - but also partly that City really needed a HG player and a RB.  Walker was in the team of the year and is England's 1st choice RB for now.  So, a bit of a premium, even before considering Levy was doing the negotiating.

Spurs ITK have said since the end of this past season that Walker had a falling out with Poch over fitness, and that he was going to be sold this summer.  The timing just happened to coincide with City having a need - but Walker was not coming back to Spurs this season.
