Kind of wonder about Tuchel though. He was my first choice for Spurs before Poch came in, but he has now left two jobs early after clashing with the boards at Mainz and Dortmund

I am not sure what you mean by rescind on VAR.  The VAR made the call for the red card, not the ref, the ref I believe has to follow what var says here.  The ref did not give the red card to begin with.
Maybe I do not understand VAR (likely) or maybe I misinterpreted the gif (also likely)... but I thought that VAR was used in MLS by the ref who made the call to confirm or overturn his call (and that the decision to use VAR came "from above").  So I was assuming that the ref showed the red then went to VAR to confirm his decision.

I am now assuming, from your reply, that the VAR call came in, the ref reviewed it and then issued the red.  Which is even more bananas to me if so.

This is how it flowed

1. fouled occurred, ref issues foul but no card

2. VAR buzzes ref and says they are going to look at it (VAR is a person in stadium and is in room watching replays)

3. VAR determines the play to be a red card and tells ref to review and ref goes to video to watch for himself.

4. REF shows that the determination came from VAR by making the square indication with his hands

5. Reaches to back pocket and gives red

6. Revs flip out as this is there 3rd Red card given by VAR this year and the 4th red card in the last 4 games.

ok, so I do not understand VAR AND  misinterpreted the gif ;)

a) I thought VAR was in a control room in Chicago or something

b) I also thought that VAR just showed the replay to the ref and that the ref confirmed the decision (which seems odd, but c'mon, PRO?)

thanks for the clarification.

I have to say I am little confused myself in reading more this morning.  I always thought that the on field ref had final say and would be looking at the same replays the VAR saw.  It seems like the ref always sides with what VAR recommends....

Safe to say it is still an imperfect system that likely needs to be tweaked in the years to come.

I think the system is more commonly used to confirm red cards but the Revs seem to have been caught a few times this season in what was expected to be a little used method which was finding "missed" red cards.

I need to go to a game over in Minnesota :excited:

A female soccer fan who was caught watching a game while topless in the presence of a child has been charged with “indecent exposure.”

Rose Picklo, 23, was arrested Saturday at TCF Bank Stadium in Minneapolis after a 7-year-old boy spotted her watching the game, sitting behind him and his mother, without a shirt on, WCCO-TV reported.

“Don’t look. Just watch the game. That’s what we’re here for,” the boy’s mother, Tori Hintzman, told the Star Tribune.

Police were notified of Picklo showing “her bare breasts in a section full of people” at the stadium, which is located on the University of Minnesota’s campus.

Picklo was reportedly ordered by university police to put a shirt on and was threatened with arrest, but the soccer fan refused and argued with authorities.

During the encounter, Picklo said she “was filming the incident” to get the officers on video.

“I don’t remember a whole lot about what happened,” Picklo told the Star Tribune. She told the news outlet that she was “on my third beer” during the event.

Hintzman said that other men watching the game in the area were also not wearing shirts.

After being handcuffed by two officers, Picklo was subsequently carried out of the stadium because she refused to walk on her own. She was later taken to the Hennepin County Jail.

Picklo is scheduled to appear in court Oct. 9. She was charged with indecent exposure, a gross misdemeanor charge, and could face up to a year in jail or a $3,000 fine.
full support for boobs. full condemnation for mommy being scared they might damage lil' precious skippy jr.

as an aside, it is NOT illegal here in NYC to go topless for women. doesn't happen that often, but usually there's a contingent in the LBGT day parade floats, and randomly elsewhere.

I assumed after the ref gets the call, he goes over to review the video (after making the "I'm drawing a rectangle with my hands" movement) and makes the final determination himself, on the field. I thought the VAR just buzzes in to let the guy know something might be up for review.. not making the call for the red from the booth.

but these are all assumptions, which as we all know make an ### out of gator.

from reading more, this is exactly what is suppose to happen.  It does make some sense though that there is a fairly high correlation to making a change (on cases that need changes not confirmations), else the VAR would not buzz.

I still don't get how two different refs determined on replay that was a straight red card though.

stunning that anybody thought that was card worthy enough to warrant buzzing in. person should not be allowed to sit in that booth any more. and that ref should be doing USL/NASL for a bit until he figures stuff out.

as we've all said ad nauseum... not even a foul, let alone a yellow or red.

Wow.

:muttersangrilyatchangeinsystem:
I feel the same way.  I enjoyed watching this because it gave some otherwise meaningless games reason to pay attention to them to see how the rankings would be affected but Europe does what ever it can to help the big clubs (like they need any extra help..)

It is interesting that while I think we all knew England had acquired the most points this year so far, I doubt anyone knew that Cyprus was in 2nd.

Nashville keeps moving forward

================

Nashville Mayor Megan Barry's administration has reached a preliminary deal with a local investor group led by prominent businessman John Ingram for the financing of a Major League Soccer stadium at the city's fairgrounds.

A special Metro Council meeting is set for Monday at 3 p.m. for the mayor's office to present the stadium's financial package to the council, which will be asked to sign off on it.

Barry spokesman Sean Braisted confirmed the two sides have agreed on a funding proposal. He said the administration, along with Ingram's MLS2Nashville Steering Committee, intend to present a "private-public" soccer stadium financing plan, though he said some details are still getting worked out.

NASL will shut down in 2018 without an injunction from the courts

During a conference call with the media today, the North American Soccer League confirmed that unless they receive a preliminary injunction to keep Division 2 status in their anti-trust lawsuit against the United States Soccer Federation the league will not be able to continue into next season.

well, crap.

So the long standing average attendance record by the Cosmos, set back in 1978 of 47,586 has an outside chance to be broken.

Atlanta needs to draw 109,277 combined over two games.  One of the games should draw the normal 43kish in their reduced capacity mode, leaving around 67k for the finale against TFC in which the entire stadium will be open.

As for the MLS average attendance record, Atlanta are 100% certain to break it, needing only 47,847 combined over their last 2 games to break Seattle;s record from 2015.

on a more negative note, SJ saw their 65 game sell out streak end last night.

About half way through Fever Pitch. Numerous laugh out loud moments. Wonder how much more Arsenal fans resonate with the book because hes talking about your team. Must be that much richer.

Two enthusiastic thumbs up.

Chile sit in 6th place in qualifying, two games left.  5th place gets the playoff spot.

Chile just released their roster for the final 2 matches which included only 16 field players (19 total players).   I guess the coach knows the exact lineup (I wish Arena had this luxury, we are still trying to guess :)   )

Man city have some challenging times ahead. Mendy is out for the season, Kompany is never fully fit, and now Aguero could miss a month after a cracked rib in an auto accident...

for you refs and pseudo refs, is this really a red?  Is was judged to be so on VAR.  Strong tackle but the Revs player seemed to be clearly first to the ball.

The red card was overturned.  It does not overturn the loss though which is the issue VAR was suppose to help with.

Xavier Kouassi will be available for selection tomorrow against Atlanta after the #NERevs won an appeal of his red card in Orlando.

So the Yankee stadium problem may rear it's head in the playoffs:

Audi 2017 MLS CUP PLAYOFFS HOME SCHEDULE

Knockout Round
October 25 or October 26
Conference Semifinal
If New York City FC is 1 or 2 seed
Leg 2: November 1*

If New York City FC is 3-6 seed
Leg 1: October 30-31
Conference Championship
Leg 1: November 21 or
Leg 2: November 28-29
*The second leg of the Conference Semifinal will be played on Wednesday, November 1 instead of Sunday, November 5 due to an event at Yankee Stadium scheduled prior to the 2017 MLS Playoff schedule being set.
If NYCFC holds off Atlanta, the first leg of NYCFC vs 3/6 would be Oct 30/31...the second leg would be forced to move up to Nov 1 since they let Rutgers have the stadium for a football game on Nov 4.  Well played guys...well played.

At least it doesn't look like the Yankees will be home for the Oct 22nd match.

whatta mess.

and they STILL have to play on the junky field.

so now they need VAR for the VAR.
