New test for the roadkill begins today. The young lady who had been sharing my office for six years moved on a few weeks ago and I was just notified that Slovakian John will be moving in. Every day now I will be hearing a litany of like dis, like dis, like dis and dat one dere, none of it related to footy (which John doesn't follow). John is a genuinely nice guy and it would be exceptionally ungracious of me to laugh, even if I explained it all to him.
just call him Hatch.

Marek Hamsik is Slovakian!  I believe he just drew even with Diego Maradona on the all-time goals scored list for Napoli.
Love Hamsik. Looks like he would ply you with liquor if he liked you and knife you if he didn't.

Pretty sure the shark move here is to become a vocal supporter of the Czech Republic.  You could decorate the office with this .

San Jose signs Magnus Erickson (top goalscorer in Sweden) as a DP.

This follows a trend and it certainly looks like MLS is paying more now than the Scandinavian leagues.

yeah, it was not that many years ago that MLS players went to Sweden.  That almost never happens now and seeing MLS sign their leagues top scorer certainly makes a statement about how things are changing.

I actually think it's all smaller Euro league.  San Jose also signed Qwiberg, NYCFC signed Tinnerholm, SKC signed Croizet as a DP (granted Belgium, but another smaller Euro league), and LAFC signed Gaber from Basel.  That's just so far this offseason.  We concentrate on the influx of South American talent, but these teams are also aggressively going after out of contract mid-tier Euro guys as well.

Back to South American to MLS news, it looks like Orlando is following Atlanta and NYCFC (I mean Man City's) lead and picking up Jose Colman (Paraguayan U-20) as a young DP for 3.5 million.

@shader  any news from Memphis land today?
I'm in Nashville.  They are supposed to announce it today at the Country Music Hall of Fame.

I'm really pumped.  I held back on going all-in for Atlanta until I knew if this would happen.  Knowing Nashville sports as I know them, we will likely be pretty crappy in the beginning..

But hey, there's going to be pro soccer in my city!  I'm pumped!

I'm just waiting until they start hiring so I can put my resume in as IT director slash Scouting intern.

what do you think of he stadium location?  will it work for the general demographic MLS attracts?

Unbelievable location.  It will have a significant impact on the surround area, which is already growing and beginning the journey to total change.

It's perfectly poised to take advantage of the significant hipster population of Nashville, but is also not in downtown..which will be helpful to people like me coming from the South.  I haven't seen plans for parking, but hopefully that will be reasonable.

every day my Revs fall further behind.  Good for DC though.

Hey, I just saw on twitter this morning that Rosicky was hanging up the cleats for good. Two Rosicky references in one day, wow.

I do not wish to troll my new roommate, he is a genuinely good fellow, though he is a go-getter, do-it-now kind of guy and the old roadkill...........isn't. Even when I'm sober.

Nashville gets an expansion team!!!!!!!!!

As an example of how this will go, Eddie George is on stage during the announcement.

:bag:

Garber supposedly said this today during the expansion announcement for Nashville

Julian Council‏ @JulianCouncil

The league hopes to announce all four expansion teams prior to the 2018 season beginning in March.

I see MLS may be using the Gorden Gekko mantra of "greed is good"

Jordan Gardner‏ @mrjordangardner

I'm hearing that the @MLS expansion fee amount may not be fixed at $150 million anymore .... that one of the hangups right now is that number may be higher than originally expected

I am confused on one item that maybe you can clear up.

I know Nashville is starting a USL team in 2018.  Will that transition to MLS once they decide what year the expansion will start or is that USL team not related to the MLS group in Nashville?

I had another Rosicky sighting today but can't talk about this one (work privacy).

This is getting spooky and I'm not just talking about his face.

Looks like Sacramento is scrambling.

https://twitter.com/BrianStraus/status/943904588956164096

MLS is delaying the choice of the next expansion team, giving Sacramento time to get new ownership and Cincy time to settle some stadium issues.
jesus what a mess

And she and York are out (if they were ever really in).  Sounds like Sacramento's bid is disintegrating.  I can't imagine any billionaire willing forking over money for a minority interest at this point.  I know Nagle has been the driving force, but he's clearing in over his head at this point.

The piece that I am unsure about is this:

Have Sac struggled to get the big money because no one wants to invest deeply in the team, or have they struggled because no one wants to invest while Nagle stays in control of team?

If it is the former, they are cooked.  If it is the latter, they might have an outside shot if Nagle can find a way to step down and not lose his shirt.

I am still bothered that it got this far.  Sac has been sitting quietly for 6 months seemingly set.  Why did it take all the way until the final presentation for MLS to tell them they were under capitialized for where MLS appears to want to go as a league?

It certainly seems latter.  Billionaire's buy sports team for the ego, not play second fiddle to some millionaire cobbling together a bid (well except if it's led by Jeter, but you see how that's working in Miami).  It's the same problem Beckham's having in Miami.

My wife just cut the cord for our TV home viewing. I can't find any LaLiga...may have to rethink this(the marriage, that is)

I did manage to find Everton/chelsea.

Anyone with experience in sling tv via Roku?

Is there a special package to get LaLiga? Or do I have to buy a different app?
