I guess technically Orlando could lose 1-0 and we lose 8-0 to Cincinnati but effectively I think Atlanta has clinched.  Anybody have a good link?
I saw this update.  I think they are all but mathematically in

UPDATE:

Salt Lake lost to Portland and failed to clinch a spot.

Portland's win clinched a top-four seed in the Western Conference. Portland will host their first playoff match.

Montréal avoided elimination by defeating Houston.

Atlanta tied with New York. Both teams failed to clinch.

Philadelphia and Nashville clinched a top-four seed in the Eastern Conference because Atlanta-New York tied. Both teams (along with New England) will host their first playoff match.

from MLS website... (thought I posted this earlier)

Race to clinch a postseason berth

EASTERN CONFERENCE

Only three spots remain for six clubs: Atlanta (48 points), Orlando (48 points), New York (47 points), CF Montréal (46 points), D.C. United (44 points) and Columbus (44 points).

New York and Atlanta failed to get the win that would have clinched their place on Wednesday after the two teams played out a goalless draw at Red Bull Arena. Montréal, meanwhile, kept their hopes alive with a 2-0 win over Houston, meaning it all comes down to Decision Day.

Atlanta are best-placed of the six, needing only a point at last-placed FC Cincinnati to be sure of making the postseason. In a winner-take-all matchup, Montréal will host Orlando City. If there's a winner, they're in; if it's a draw, Orlando will make it at Montréal's expense. The Red Bulls travel to second-placed Nashville needing at least a draw to be sure of making it in. Both Columbus and D.C. need to win and hope that other results go in their favor in a big way.

WESTERN CONFERENCE:

Five teams fighting for three playoff places: Minnesota (48 points), Vancouver (48 points), LA (47 points), Salt Lake (45 points) and LAFC (45 points) are still in the mix.

After LAFC and Vancouver drew 1-1 on Tuesday, the Whitecaps need only a draw on Decision Day to be sure of making the playoffs, while LAFC need a win and some help elsewhere

Real Salt Lake's 3-1 home defeat to the Portland Timbers on Wednesday means they missed the chance to clinch a playoff spot with a game to spare and are now on the outside looking in and needing a victory at Sporting Kansas City on Decision Day. That result also clinched Portland a top-four spot.

and if NY loses, I don't know what the tie-break is with Montreal is if MONT ties ORL or if COL and/or DC win on Sunday.

obviously, if NY loses and MONT, COL & DC all lose, NY stays in the playoffs.

from MLS website...

TEAM STANDINGS, TIE-BREAKING PROCEDURES:

The team awarded the highest position in the MLS standings will be the team with the greatest number of points (three points for a win, one point for a tie, zero points for a loss).

In the event that two or more teams finish the regular season with an equal number of points, the following tiebreakers will be used. If points per match are used, the tiebreakers will be used on a per match basis.

  1. Total number of wins per match
  2. Goal Differential (GD) per match (Goals For per match minus Goals Against per match)
  3. Goals For (GF) per match
  4. Fewest Disciplinary Points* per match
  5. Away Goals Differential per Away match (Away Goals For per Away match minus Away Goals Against per Away match)
  6. Away Goals For per Away match
  7. Home Goals Differential per Home match (Home Goals For per Home match minus Home Goals Against per Home match)
  8. Home Goals For per Home match
  9. Coin Toss (tie of two clubs) or Drawing of Lots (tie of three or more clubs)
When two or more teams are tied in the standings on points (or points per game if utilized), the above tiebreakers will be used until one team ranks ahead of the other(s).

NY and DC have 13 Wins

ATL, MONT and ORL have 12 Wins

MONT goes through if: they win and one of ORL or NY loses. They tie and NY loses by 2 goals or more, unless DC wins by 5 goals or more.

DC goes through if: they win and NY loses and MONT ties or loses.

COL goes through if: they win, NY, DC and MONT all lose AND the results between NY and COL overcomes a 7 goal GD currently between them (NY +6, COL -1) (there are other options with DC and MONT tying and overcoming GD)

Not gonna lie, pretty excited about getting the first away game of the season in on Saturday at Blackburn. Less excited about the town being a dump with zero decent pubs, and them using up all ther defensive calamities midweek v Fulham

it's no Wrexham (I hardly knew'em)

It’s Eddie Howe. This is exactly the right hire. A name, but not a NAME!!!! Young but experienced. Has succeeded in a ####show but not so much he wants diamond pants. Knows what tactics are. Ambitious but not stupid. I welcome Eddie ####### Howe.

Yeah - reading Reddit it sounds like Atlanta would have to lose by 9 goals to be out.

Xavi to Barça all but official.  Barça is paying his release clause to the Qatari club he was leading.

Could be a tough time to come in and manage that team.  How was his relationship to Piqué when they played together?

I’ve looked at this like 10 times and I’ve yet to find a source that agrees but I think Atlanta has clinched because 2 of the 3 teams that could pass them play each other.

I see the error in my ways...ORL and MONT play eachother, so only one of them has a shot here, not both
Thanks for not reading my posts, jerk!

Per Di Marzio and Romano Andry Shevchenko is close to agreeing on a contract with Genoa to lead from their bench. This will be Sheva's first Club Managing Job and it comes in the county he made his second home 2 decades ago in Italy.

Got a feeling this ownership group is gonna royally F things Up figuratively and literally.
They have a steep learning curve for sure, like not letting things leak. They also need a Director of Football that the entire consortium trusts to make decisions so they’re not going back and forth so much.

I hope they wouldn’t have Howe sitting next to Amanda in the booth if they weren’t confident in getting the deal over the line. I’ll start panicking on Tuesday.

They need to do what Elliot did after getting Milan. Get someone like a Gazidis in there who can help get their sponsorships up as well as not spending like drunken sailors.

Then they should get a sporting director who use to play at the club. Alan Shearer fits that bill. Someone that people know to help them recruit. They should also get someone to help AS who knows the ropes and find some scouts similar to Geofrey Mocanda Milan stole from France.

Milan Derby ends in a draw. Inter covered a Penalty by snake Hakan and Tonali's FK was an OG by Inter. Inter missed another PK saved by Tartasanu. The PK coverted by Hakan shouldn't even have been a PK as it was two guys getting legs tangled in one of those incidental contact by both players. Great end to end action throughout.

I missed a big Milan Club meet up in NYC that was sponsored by Roc Nation and AC Milan at The 40/40 club owned by Jay-z that some of Milan Club Philly met up with Milan Clubs Toronto, NYC, Boston, etc. took the wrong week off as I took off for Roma thinking my Roma buddy (who is part of Roma Club Philly) would go to but didn't. Wished I took off today as I saw some of the videos and it looked amazing. Hoping to make many others to come though.

This is pretty cool I've learned. Apparently Paramount Ted Lasso and EPL agreed to a partnership so the show can use a lot of  real clubs and their logos, etc. We also might get guest appearances from real players and managers and other personalities from EPL too now. Should add more great things to an already great show.

I was so busy with Busio and MLS I forgot about this. Glad it worked out for both sides, although sounds like Inter should've won with the missed PK?

they seem too good a team (on paper) to be in the drop. hopefully he can help right them this season.
Are they?  The top 13 or so in the EPL are pretty stacked and they seem pretty comparable to the some of the other 7.  Maybe not relegation zone, but there's nothing that really says they shouldn't be a bottom third of the table team.

It's hard to know.  They stayed up last season because Willock got really hot on loan (which he hasn't seemed to be able to recreate this year) and St. Maximim had a nice run of the good St. Maximim.

I'd say that with their resources, I think they should be able to get in sufficient quality in January to be safe.  They haven't been great scoring goals or with not conceding, but I think scoring goals might be an easier fix.  They don't need to be looking for home runs.  They could probably improve at striker and midfield with a relatively modest investment.  Dwight Gayle, a 29 year-old Callum Wilson after some injuries, and Joelinton strikes me as a pretty ragged striker group.  Maybe make a bid to Wolfsburg for a guy like Wout Weghorst, who wouldn't break the bank but would be a pretty big upgrade.  I'm a bit surprised they're so bad defensively, because Lascelles and Schar and Dubrovka don't strike me as particularly bad players.  My guess is Howe might be able to clean up a lot of that without needing to necessarily get much help.

I know there's talk of them taking Coutinho off of Barca's hands too.

Remember when Newcastle got relegated and their entire midfield then got bought for big transfer fees?  Good times.  And in fairness, Wjindalum totally worked out.  Sissoko did his Sissoko thing where he looked incredible for about 3 games out of every 30.  The point being that it's hard to just look at a roster and say they have the talent.  So much is about fit.  Wjindalum was a perfect fit for Liverpool in a team that could allow him to do his thing (it's a lot easier being a late arriving goal scoring midfielder when you have a front three that scares every backline ####less).

I think this is a pretty open question.  No doubt that they have the resources.  But, it remains to be seen how they go about their January recruitment.

The types of players they need now - are not the type of players they will want to build long-term.  And, I think it will be tough to recruit the types of players they want long-term, while they are in a relegation battle, and have Eddie Howe as the manager.

Its a quandary.

Any Robertson too.  Went down with Hull and Liverpool scooped him on the cheap.

January transfer windows are never the times for the long term plan.  They don't have a real long term plan if they're in the Championship next season.  They need to focus on avoiding relegation and prepare for the summer to execute their long term plan (which they can still be putting work into identification and communication).

They have the resources to overpay for a productive guy approaching 30 to give them the goals they need.  Who cares if Weghorst or Belotti or whoever is not going to be the guy who starts at striker if they get in the Champions League.  That guy doesn't need to be the guy they buy now.  And he doesn't need to be a four year contract.  Two year contracts for guys in their upper 20s.  Maybe longer term contracts for younger players in non-sexy positions like DM or FB.

Lascelles has been a flat out liability this year. Schar hasn't made the 11 but I don't really know why - is he bad in training or is Bruce just an idiot? We'll find out. Dubravka has been injured most of season and is just now returning.

There's been talk of Tarkowski - he'd be a solid add along with 1 or 2 more defenders. Need a second striker like you said. They also need to train more than a couple times a week which was apparently kind of normal under Bruce and it showed with their defensive disorganization.

I think this pretty much nails it. They know survival is the only real goal now and that they'll have to overpay.

Pre-Conte, I thought Newcastle were a legit landing spot for Harry Kane.  He wanted out of Spurs, and would have been the ideal player to build around/convince other players to join the project.  That would have been a long-term buy - rather than a short-term fix.

I would not completely rule it out now - because Spurs need the money.  But, I think its less likely that Kane would accept Newcastle as a landing spot at this point.

Who is making the decisions?
It’s honestly really hard to say for sure. It seems like things get sent to the PIF for approval but I don’t know that. Just going off their public comments and interviews. Won’t really know how well they’re going to work together for years.
