True about MLS being done with guys in the twilight of their careers. But I've been amazed at how little most of these guys make in Italy...even their stars. At this point with the salaries, MLS teams could probably bring some guys over who are younger...if they were interested.

It really depends. Conte shunned Giovinco for coming to MLS despite the fact he deserved a call up to the national team. Some of these guys might want insurances from their national teams going to another league won't hurt their chances being called up for their country

That part is so true...and I wasn't thinking about it- just the crazy low salaries..

this was the entire point of my original post.   With no World Cup, players in the late 20's are going to be much less likely to be concerned with losing their spot on a roster that they might not be a part of any way in the next cycle.  And as such they might be more willing to try something new.

you absolutely did and made it pretty clear. I glossed over the point only thinking about the salaries... which, tbh- is data from several years ago- I can't even remember which Italian it was, but I want to say it was before Giovinco.

Marco Di Vio? I believe he played for Fiorentina at one time

Charlotte did not take long to get caught up in International drama.  Seeing as this has happened to US players over the years I am not shocked Poland is pissed given how big the game is they have coming up.

Seems like this was Poland's call, but the optics don't look great when he bags another brace:

“Yesterday when (we) saw that Świderski is in the starting eleven of Charlotte FC, a real ####storm on Polish Twitter has started,” Kwiatkowski wrote in an email to The Observer. “Journalists and fans started to attack us that we (made) a big mistake not to call up Świderski. That he is perfectly fit and can play. Now we have problems with strikers and Świderski is not with us. “That’s why I decided to publish an email from Charlotte to explain that he was really injured.”

Unless I am not reading this correctly, I thought Poland decided to not call him because he was hurt and expected to be out for 1-2 weeks and then when he played and scored they quickly made the tweet showing the the Charlotte sent them the letter saying he was hurt.

After Italy beat Turkey 3-2 in Turkey today Roberto Mancini confirmed he isn't handing in a resignation. He wants to continue and start again with Italy.

I saw an interesting stat today which highlights the weakness of pk's.

The average play that results in a pk has an expected goal of only 6%.

When the pk call is made, the 6% immediately converts into a 76% chance to score.

Russia continuing to spread the love

I recall MLS for this....but my memory sucks.

Either way- hell to the yes. Also, XXXXXL shorts that have like a 3" inseam.

Proud Dad Alert!  So my daughter finally got back to scoring goals with a hattrick on Saturday to help her team come back from 3-0 down to win 4-3.

Ahole Dad Alert!  So I went out on Sunday and scored a hattrick to help my team win 5-3.  She is not happy with me for matching her 3 goal game! HAHAHAHAHAHA

that's completely awesome... on both counts.

Okay, I know I’m the most annoying poster in this thread because I don’t contribute and just drive by every few weeks to promote Roma, but I love this video about the derby from a couple weeks ago.

ESPN reporting United are finalizing deal with Ten Hag to become manager.

United needs a lot of work and despite the money they've spent, they have also limited player movement.  They need 4-5 players in and 10 or so out (including those out of contract).  This team needs competition for spots, motivation to play and a direction.  Any new manager needs to trust his depth and sit out of form players regardless of who they are and how much they cost.  If the manager says I want these 5 players, the effing board can not say no but here are 5 alternates we will get you.  And they can't spend six months negotiating.  Get them into the team the moment the window opens.

Flipping channels and landed on Bein - watching River Plate replay from a couple days ago.  Bad challenge on River Plate defender Robert Rojas results in a broken leg after he was kicked by Alianza Lima’s Aldair Rodríguez.  Don’t think the guy meant it but it was a really bad kick.  Main reason I’m posting is the reaction by Bein announcers and video guys.  They kept showing it and taking about.  They zoomed in on the dudes leg while he’s on the stretcher and point out where his leg was broken.  Very weird.

Also, ref originally gave a yellow and then when he saw that the dudes leg was broken he changed it to a red.  I have zero problem with that but the announcers were saying it shouldn’t be allowed.  I think it should be an allowed reversal by a ref, even if there’s no VAR.

The Spiegel story about Manchester City is good. Some of the emails they released are pretty fascinating. https://www.spiegel.de/international/europe/sponsorship-money-paid-for-by-the-state-a-2ad5b586-1d82-4a21-8065-f3c081cd91a4

"And Manchester once again looks set to advance to the semifinals of the Champions League – one year after losing in the final to Premier League rival FC Chelsea."

Uh, no. Still gotta not let Atleti score, which seems to be pretty easy this season, but not guaranteed.

Not sure if this has been discussed in the Soccer Thread but Ronaldo after ManU's disappointing 4-1 loss vs Everton was walking off the field and slapped a young Everton Supporters phone out of his hand onto the ground when walking off the pitch to the tunnel. The boys phone was broken and he has a pretty bruised hand. CR7 apologized and offered him a trip to a ManU match. Dude the kids an Everton supporter and you broke his phone why punish him more? I commented that the Fan should ask for a new phone and for a signed Copa America Argentina Lionel Messi Kit for the ultimate ####housery and misery of CR7.

Either way in breaking news today it was found out that the kid is on the Autism spectrum and Liverpool Police are now investigating the incident. Some already know my own struggles with Autism and frankly this kid deserved better. EPL should be suspending Ronaldo for the rest of the EPL season and a fine. No excuse for fan assaults ever. If CR7 wasn't already miserable it's about to get even worse

Hadn't heard about the kid being on the spectrum.  Very poor act by Ronaldo for sure. Not sure 7 games is a justifiable ban but I could see a game or two and a fine.

I also thought it was odd to offer him a game at Old Trafford.  Thought he would be a United supporter, but if he's an Everton one, it makes no sense for the fan to accept.

And it was 1-0  :scared:

Yeah I forget which match it was 4-1 but I messed up there

Boy is an Everton Supporter. Also it's assault of a fan so it should be long. Zero excuses to do so.

exactly what I was thinking when I read that.

slapped a phone out of a kid's hands-  suspend rest of the season for ... "assault"?

Players don't have any right touching fans. this is more of CR7 thinking he's some immortal still and privileged and can do what he wants. Fans shouldn't attack players either but this looks like another case of CR7 acting like a baby when he doesn't get his way.

agree with all of this, even if I don't have ESP like you to know what he was thinking.

my point was that acting like a baby isn't quite "assault", let alone remotely approaching Cantona-kung-fu levels... which is the bar I think of when I think of a player "assaulting" a fan.

By definition of laws you could probably argue this was assault. Assault Is one of the easier charges to get on someone no matter what. I think the problem is how some define assault compared to others.

I don't like this but they are obviously going to be chasing the money.   Hopefully the other portions of the deal will be on more used platforms

[John Ourand] On Apple TV getting a portion of MLS rights; "That deal [MLS] with Apple if it turns out to be accurate. It's going to come out in like the next 4 weeks or so it's going to be a good amount of money it's going to be a pretty good deal for MLS"

These numbers look solid to me.  Depending on what the % of the player they held, it could be a fantastic deal.  Nice to see so many MLS teams getting involved in the global market

Fenerbahce have officially acquired on-loan Uruguay int'l winger Diego Rossi from LAFC on a permanent transfer. Club announced $6 million fee (5.5m Euros). Sources add, including loan fee, total deal is around $10m. LAFC retain sell-on %, described to me as "significant" %

I was wondering what happened to him.

decent business for the LA.

I thought Fulham had clinched?

they keep losing lately, and I just saw a headline talking about their wait continuing... or maybe that's for the title only, and they've clinched promotion?

question for @titusbramble or anybody who lives in a pro/rel world... do the fans care more about winning the title or is it mostly about gaining promotion?

Technically not clinched yet.  But it would take a near miracle for Fulham not to promote.

The only way they do not promote is the exact following scenario.

Fulham loses its remaining 5 games (0  points)

Nottingham Forrest wins its remaining 6 games (18 full points)

=======

and even if that VERY unlikely scenario does happen, they would still need a second team to jump ahead of them (Bournemouth getting 10 points from its last 6 games to pass Fulham (if Fulham gets 0 points the rest of the way) is the most likely).
