Up late due to a work call. I turn the tv to the Serbia v Hungary u20 match at the 85th minute with Hungary up 1-0.

Serbia evened it up at 90:15 and then had a player sent off on a 2nd yellow a minute later.

Now on to extra time. Looks like this work call is going to last at least another 30 minutes now.

Holy crap! Hungary puts in their own net in the 119th minute, while a man up!

What a brutal way to get knocked out.
whoa, that sounds like it was a nice catch for you
It was indeed.

Walter De Gregorio, who had been with FIFA since 2011, will stay on as a consultant through the end of the year. De Gregorio made news Monday in a Swiss TV interview when he made a joke: "The FIFA president Sepp Blatter, the director of communications and the general secretary are all sitting in a car -- who is driving?" The punch line? "The police."

NBA star Carmelo Anthony is the owner of a new NASL franchise, Puerto Rico FC. He is the sole owner of the team that will begin play in 2016.

Can any DC residents fill me in on the stadium issue? Watching this from afar is akin to trying to kick a football that Lucy is holding.

This has to be at least the 3rd time I have read the deal was complete with the city. Is it real this time or will I be reading in 2 months that DC United is looking into Virginia again?

And as a related aside that got lost in the FIFA explosion, huge kudos to the Orlando owners for deciding to use all private financing and returning money to the city in building the now larger stadium.

Council Chairman Phil Mendelson said he expects his colleagues to approve everything by mid-July, before the council exits for a long summer recess.

Let’s get to some relevant passages:

The District will spend up to $89 million on land acquisition and $61 million on land preparation. If, as a result of eminent domain action against Akridge, the land acquisition costs go up, D.C. United will reimburse D.C. 50 percent of the excess to a maximum amount of $10 million, paid in annual installments as part of the team’s ground lease.

D.C. will pay Pepco $39,345,788 for its parcel (plus $1 million for the removal of combustion turbines), $15,861,752 for the Super Salvage land and $10,325,920 for Mark Ein’s lot. In a separate agreement, Pepco will pay the District $15.8 million for land at First and K streets NW.

Per the revised development agreement, D.C. United must provide the District with its utility requirements for the stadium and any ancillary development by Sept. 1. The city will bring utility service to the perimeter of the stadium land, but the team will be responsible for the installation and connection of new utility lines and service to the stadium.

D.C. United must submit one or more conceptual design proposals by Sept. 1, final conceptual design by March 1, development design by June 1, 2016, permit drawings by Sept. 1, 2016, and construction drawings by Dec. 31, 2016.

The team must enter into a definitive construction contract by Jan. 1, 2017, which must provide for a $1.5 million workforce incentive program to drive up the number of employed D.C. residents.

Relocation and rearrangement of utilities by the District must be complete by Sept. 1, 2016. The agreement does not set a specific deadline for completion of roads, sidewalks, traffic signals and highway signage except “prior to substantial completion of the Stadium.”

The lease for the stadium footprint is for an initial period of 30 years, with three five-year optional extensions. The lease carries a price of $1 per year. If D.C. United develops adjacent, D.C.-owned land, that rent — equal to 5 percent of the fair market value of the improvements — won’t be due for 35 years.

The District also has agreed to consider re-sequencing its streetcar plans to advance a line between Buzzard Point and downtown, though it does not stop the city from “discontinuing, rerouting or curtailing” the streetcar.

The city will not be required to remediate petroleum contaminated soil provided that the dirt can be excavated and tipped at an approved disposal facility. The excavation will be financed by the team as part of the construction of the stadium, while the District will pay the incremental cost of disposing the contaminated soil.

A “No Relocation Agreement” requires D.C. United to play “substantially” all of its home games at the new stadium, to maintain its principal offices in the District, and to make “reasonable efforts” to locate its practice field and any related facilities in the city.

The District will be entitled to use a designated luxury suite and 25 box seats for all games and all other stadium events.

The team will control the naming and any other stadium-related promotional rights.

Swansea signed forward Andre Ayew from Ghana on a free transfer. He has Champions league and World Cup experience including scoring against the US. Seems like a great signing and an indication Swansea is making a push to be a top 6 club. :headbang:

So ESPN says if Wales wins they're almost assured of being in Pot 1 for World Cup Qualifying.

The other huge match is Italy at Croatia. Winner is definitely in Pot 1. Croatia loses they are almost assured of being in Pot 2. If Italy loses they would need to beat Portugal next week to have any shot at Pot 1.

Point being is France is already in Pot 2, so you are going to have at least 2-4 very hard UEFA WC qualifying groups.

If LFC plays its cards right, it seems Sterling has to approach £50m in value. Just reportedly rejected a feeler of £30m from MUFC Manchester City
fixed,

but still might be correct in approaching his value.
Such a killer LFC can't hold onto it's prized possessions.

I realize there are only 6 or 7 true buying clubs (Real, Barca, PSG, Bayern, Chelsea, United?, City?), but it sure sucks not being one of them when you see your team as a "big" club and three of the Buyers are in your league.

I don't get the value of Sterling. He's really fast, but the guy is atrocious in front of goal and kicks like a girl. Why would a team pay him 50M when guys like Sanchez went in the 30M range last year?

Is Sterling really going to make your team leap to the next level instantly?

And if he does sign with Man City and becomes a top player for them...do they really think he's the type of guy that is going to stay there for ten years?

I guess my point is that he doesn't seem like an impact player NOW, and he doesn't seem like the type of guy that is loyal enough to stash on your bench for 2 seasons and then expect him to walk into your starting lineup.

If LFC get 50M for him, I think that's a steal. It would be nice to keep young assets, but lets face it, this guy just isn't going to be a long-term player. Sell him now while the money is high.

The way he kicks the ball, I doubt he'll ever have a pricetag this high again.

Crazy sequence. Italians score and it gets taken away by a late flag on a bad call. They get too caught up arguing with the refs to stop the Croatian counter where they go on a score while looking offsides themselves (need to see it again).

I see a lot of Welbeck in Sterling. Works hard, looks pretty, may be a nice winger.... IMO his value in England is higher since he is young and English. Two things of great value to English clubs. I think his value was also inflated in europe (england included) when he was #3 in the Suarez/Sturridge/Sterling group lighting up the scoreboard.

I agree that if someone gives LP 50 mill, or even 30mill they should take it. But then again, I dont see him being much more then what Welbeck is now.

Wow. Italy get a PK down 1 and they send up a layer who has never taken an International PK. Not Pirlo. Kid nails a Panenka.

I think Liverpool have also really dodged the bullet on Sterling in terms of health. He seems like the type of player that is going to get hurt a lot, because he is slight and scrawny. He goes to the ground a lot.

I thought both calls were correct.

Huge balls on that kid with the Paneka.

He's small- but that kid is tough as nails. he wins 50/50 balls against CBs, holds the ball against anybody. the biggest surprise to me about him this year was how strong he was on the ball. I think he's a tremendous player- youngish, game-breaking pace, and can score. you've made a couple of comments- weak shot, slight... I just don't see eiher of those from him this year.

Jackson Martinez to AC Milan for 35m is official.

The money will begin to flow. About damn time

So Wales is going to be a Pot 1 Seed for UEFA World Cup 2018 Qualifying?!?

Rooting for the Faroes plus all of the weakest teams in each other pot to be drawn with Wales :) Go Faroes!

Offsides to me, it was really close tho. At full speed I can understand no flag...
looks to me like he is behind the ball when its played in from the right. Although its too close either way its called to argue

Yeah, looks like he is just behind the ball. Didn't see it that way at first. Just saw he was ahead of the defense. The Italy one was onsides too.

I'm all on board with this particular deal. Selling high on potential value without a ton of results. Think the money could go to way better use.
