The back story to this tweet is that Griezmann has some clause in his contract that kicks out a large bonus if he plays a certain amount of games over 30 minutes

It's not a bonus. He's on loan from Barca and Atletico have a buy requirement if he plays too many games beyond 30 minutes.

They don't want to buy (at least not at that price) so they are making sure he doesn't activate it. Barca are super pissy about it and are looking into legal options.

Seems like they shouldn't have agreed to it. If you need the player but don't want to buy, 1/3rd of a player for no transfer fee it seems like good business.

The Griezmann saga is far too complex. In 2019, Atletico wouldn't negotiate so Barcelona bought him by activating a €120MM buyout clause. Then they paid him ridiculous wages and backloaded it.

He spent 2 seasons at Barcelona and underwhelmed. They got in financial problems so they loaned him back to Atletico who had a 2nd year loan option (this season). In the loan agreement, there is a requirement to buy him for €40MM if he played 50% of available games. But games only count if he plays greater than 30 minutes or so. Barcelona's position is that the 50% game requirement was for the first year of the loan only, meaning Atletico are required to buy. Atletico's position is it os over the life of the loan.

He's still a very good player but he's 31 so Atletico think they can get him for cheaper (they offered €15MM for him). Griezmann seems to be on board with the plan and so they just sub him on every game.

If they don't sell him, Barcelona are on the hook for €38MM/year in wages for each of next year and the year after since they backloaded his contract. Maybe they will offer him 10% of their tv rights next summer to cancel the contract.

Man... not sure the balance is right here, but wow.

Milan is announcing another fan club event in NYC tomorrow at Jay Z's 4O 4O club for January 8th match vs Juventus. This is the 2nd time in as many years around the same time frame. Last year was the Milan Derby I didn't get a chance to go as they announced this too late for me to get off. Milan leadership groups already know about it. Were told to keep quite. My President told me and the guy who hosted the event for the derby while both our President and VP were out of the country as a thank you. Going to be a fun time as Milan club Boston, NYC, Philly, MTL, Toronto AKA the 5 original families of Milan Club will all be there. Hoping we get to see Milan club DC Cleveland and Orlando 2 of our newest clubs in the US. Really looking forward to meeting the other clubs and their leadership in person. I talk to many online already but this will be my first chance to official meet in person with many.

Found out the announcement will be either sometime today or tomorrow now. Not sure why it was pushed back.

Forgot to post this here. Milan announced it on Thursday. Scudetto Trophy coming to NYC. We also get a free Milan Scarf which is the gift. Going up to NYC now. Just ordered my new kit. First time ever spending big on a Kit from the team store we'll see how we do with that.

Taking mega bus up. Not happy getting up real early and the late back is what they wanted. If my buddy can get me home then cool

I went to the Revolution match today for no good reason. Atlanta dude tied it up on a sweet bicycle kick. I should probably post a link in my sig.

Not only is the Scudetto trophy coming tomorrow but the special guest is no other then AC Milan RB who's injured Alessandro Florenzi so I'll get to meet him tomorrow too. Wish it was Ibra but he has to watch his 22 kids on the pitch tomorrow live.

Think if I ask Florenzi to give Ibra a hug for me and thank you he'll do it or do you think I asked Florenzi for his death wish?

Haaland is just a meme that won't quit :lmao:

Kevin de Bruyne was Man City's top Premier League goalscorer last season ... Erling Haaland has already equaled his total by early October

13 Premier League teams have scored less league goals this season than Erling Haaland.

In five appearances this season, Erling Haaland has scored as many Premier League goals at the Etihad as the entire Manchester City squad during the 2006-07 campaign (10).

Heading to my first Inter Miami game today with my son. A friend of mine gifted the tickets so why not. Interesting that Inter Miami stadium isn't even located in Miami (it's in Fort Lauderdale).

Haven't been paying much attention to the team until lately. Just read that Beckham is trying to lure Cristiano Ronaldo next year. Huh....

It's the last game of the season before the MLS playoffs start next week. Inter clinched a playoff spot on Wednesday but can improve their seeding if they can win and the Red Bulls lose. At elast they are playing for something.

They are a decent side. The problem is Beckham is trying to bring in name guys who aren't even good anymore. Like Matuidi, Higuanin, etc. CR7 would just destroy their lockerroom and I don't believe the rumor. His people are trying to desperately sell him off like a cheap whore out there because no one wants him.

The Milan event was amazing. Metta World Peace was there too and got a great reaction.

Disappointed they didn't do like a meet and great with him. Out club presidents got us signed trading card pics of Florenzi and we got to get a pic taken with him that went up on his IG account if anyone is interested. I was also involved in a few of Milan's official IG Stories video and photos. Not just me but groups of us. Florenzi addressed the San Siro from the club too which was cool. If anyone saw the Pre game on Paramount with the Signs Philly loves Marco that was us holding the signs.

There was liked 6 different sections of levels similar to like stands but it had couches and small tables in the club. We sat the last section before the one that was reserved and Florenzi sat right behind us the whole match. He seemed to do well greeting people but his body language was more of the "get me out of here" or "I don't want to be here." He was still great. There was talk about bringing Zlatan in but he's apparently 1 1/2 hrs late to any even he does.

The presidents got the club members a nice gift as well. first 3OO fans got a free Milan scarf and I ended dup with 2 some how. We got a free duffle bag with a team photo, a nice Milan Puma hat and we got a Serie A League Captain's armband with the league logo and Peace for Ukraine on it. Milan Club NYC did a raffle with 3 jerseys signed by Tonali including a Shevchenko white kit from the CCL Final that they came out with in June that was a comparative Ukraine type. The raffle is part of Milan's foundation and the funds yesterday are going to help rebuild one of the soccer stadiums in Shevchenko's home town destroyed in the Invasion.

Got to meet many of the presidents and clubs there. I met David Amoyal, Martino Puccio and Matt Santangelo and his brother. Peter Morgan who is the liaison for the Milan clubs world wide was there and I got to meet him. He was asking people our honest opinions were on the club out reach to the US and all over, plus what more can be done. We were all really honest with him and he cares. He came to Milan a decade ago from London and a Middlebroughs supporter but fully embraced Milan at this point.

We also met 2 people from Milans TVchannel and social networks who were posting stuff online yesterday. One of the reps even took a picture with our club. It was a really fun day. We all went to legends around 5 for an after party. By the time we got there wasn't a lot left. Overall it was a lot of fun to put names and voices and faces together with people you talk to social media all the time. Also yesterday was Matteo Bonetti's birthday so it was even more special

The rabbit hole of the NWSL scandal is getting deep. Merrit Paulson has now stepped down from both the Timbers and the Thorns as CEO.

I still for the life of me don't understand the risk/reward of covering up a predator. And the fact that this piece of **** was on the short list to coach the USWNT is really scary.

Here are some more details on what happened in Portland and how they covered it up while sending him on his way with recommendations no less....so friggan stupid :wall:

It happens everywhere. PSU didn't do anything because they were afraid of what it'd do to Paterno's reputation and recruiting despite the fact he should've retired. FSU covered up Winston and then slut shamed the Victims. Canadien Hockey is going through similar situation right now too. It's all about money and a thing like this coming out can hurt that profit. Profit over people remember that.

This has got to be Ronaldo's agent putting this out there. Maybe hoping to drum up interest in the attempt to get something similar to the rumored partial ownership deal that was offered to Messi.

That is a temporary stadium. They have always wanted to build in Miami as their formal stadium. They are getting closer...

Yes, I am quite familiar with that process and the ease with which they were able to convince the sell-outs in the Miami government that it was needed. We have a dearth of dedicated park space here so the commissioners decided (along with the uneducated voters) to allow the largest chunk of open park space in Miami to be developed. Not really happy with that outcome. Not to mention that we are also losing a very nice public golf course and the First Tee golf program that is there.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin is getting a USL Championship team in 2025. The official announcement today didn't surprise anyone who's been following closely as I have, but still great to have it finally officially confirmed. Currently, the highest level soccer in Wisconsin is the Madison Forward, who play in the USL League One. This new team will be under the same ownership group lead by a local businessman. The team name will be voted on by fans (Name the Team!). The stadium site is known but yet to be built - great downtown location. It will be an 8,000 seat stadium. Great news for us here in the Tundra.

He should be dropped.

oh that is even worse, if possible. That clearly seems to be his way of forcing himself off the club. I hate to see players rewarded for such behavior but it might be best for all involved.

Agree on all this. Not sure if there were any legit offers for him in the summer window, but this situation is getting worse and worse.

We discussed it during the summer - let him go. He's not a fit in this system and United are realistically 2 years from legitimately challenging for EPL/CL. I'll never dislike CR after all he's done for the club but things like yesterday tend to tarnish his image (at United at least). I said during the summer I don't blame him for wanting to play and to play in CL - he deserves it. I'm not sure which CL club he realistically could fit in to but it's time for him to move on.

I agree, which is why I was wondering if there were any legit offers. I mean other than from SA or whoever it was that couldn't offer CL games. Reports have ranged anywhere from no offers to 5 offers. Most of the big clubs came out and said no thanks. Sporting may have been the only realistic destination.

For all involved, hopefully he has a good WC and they can figure out something in January. But there are 7 games between now and the WC and 2 more after before the window opens. Plenty of time to get even uglier.
