Time for the MLS to stop this stupid designated rights situation. If KC of all places can offer Ronaldo enough of a package that he'd even take a double look after hearing what was on the table in Saudi Arabia tells me that the league is ready to take the next step.

I imagine if Miami or LA had the right to negotiate with Ronaldo that maybe the package looks good enough(especially combined with the idea of living in Miami or LA).

Also, on the opposite side of the business, imagine how many amazing young South American players could be in the league for the money they would have paid Ronaldo for even one season.....

The bigger point is that MLS is clearly flooded with money at this point. Infrastructure is almost complete league wide (almost every team has a fancy dancy training facility now and most teams have their own stadiums) which has been where most of the focus has ben the past decade while slowly growing the league.

Eventually the owners need to decide whether they want to take the next step and challenge the big 5 or whether they are happy with the controlled costs and solid profits (and ever increasing team values) they have now.

Ronaldo's team even contacted Patrick Mahomes to see how he liked being a super star in KC.
I am livid that this didn't happen. Just imagining Ronaldo playing in Kansas City while Messi makes his World Cup victory lap. Only Real Salt Lake could have been funnier.

Vermes benching Ronaldo would have been an all time MLS moment for sure :lmao:

Oh the ****....it is time MLS took off the training wheels...if a non big city team like KC were this close to signing Ronaldo for that type of money, they can improve the league significantly across the board. The money is clearly there.

Multiple @MLS teams inquired about Ronaldo and his future but 1 team was already at the table: @SportingKC Their offer was so compelling that Ronaldo’s team had multiple meetings w/SKC before taking the Saudi deal. The package (wages/commercial) was said to be “very close"

CR7 wouldn't be good for MLS. He's the type of clown the league needs to stay away from. He's nothing more than a merchant and would wear out his welcome in no time wanting to leave

Philly had rights to Ibrahimovic but the league said they couldn't as he was "too well known." AKA MLS didn't want Zlatan in Philly

Odds of finishing top-4 (City off the board, ~100%)

Arsenal 93.1%
Liverpool 65.2%
United 56.8%
----------------------------
Newcastle 43.4%
Tottenham 19.5%
Chelsea 16.3%
Brighton 4.7%
Villa 1.0%

Oddsmakers aren't nearly as sour on Liverpool's midfield as fans seem to be. Henderson and Elliott aren't slowing anyone down and Fab has been off his best form too. Thiago's been amazing but needs some help. I'm very surprised at how high there are here.

Keep an eye on Olivier Giroud....turned down the latest offer from Milan. Has real interest in coming to @MLS and is currently exploring it with a few teams. 36 years old but still fit and in the right situation, he works and could score goals.

I was wondering about this as well. I thought what FIFA did at the WC was going to be adopted into the leagues but so far it is back to ignoring the majority of the time wasting

@IanDarke

Why are the Premier League not adding on all the wasted time , as at World Cup ? If they did , players would quickly get the message that time wasting is …. er, a waste of time.

So Al Nassr has been hyping Ronaldo's first game, and sold out the entire stadium and then realized Ronaldo can't play due to what happened back at Man United with the phone incident where he was banned for 2 games (of which I guess he has not yet served?)

It sounds like FIFA has a rule in place where if you are banned/suspended in one league it carries over to your new league if you move.

Yeah this is from the incident last season with the kid in Everton. It took a year to levy a punishment and was announced right after he got released by United. So he has to serve....

I’ve been afraid to get too bullish on United but ETH has them playing really well after a really rough start. I keep waiting for Arsenal to hit a rough patch but credit to them. I still don’t think they will win it but to have this record and lead this far in to the season is impressive. Chelsea seems dead for the top 4 at the moment and Tottenham needs somebody other than Kane to score.

Love what Newcastle has done but just don’t think they have the depth yet to get top 4. I like the same 4 as the bookmakers.

And it gets better. Al Nassr have too many foreign players and can not register CR7. Until they move one, he can't be registered and get his two game suspension....

Agreed. But ETH has made some tough calls, brought competition and accountability back to the side. Cut Ronaldo, sit Maguire (Heck, even an out of position Shaw is starting over HM)
And it seems the team is buying in. Sustainable? We shall see. Especially with today's FA CUP, Tuesday's League Cup and then City and Arsenal following, and Barcelona a few after that,

LP just lost VVD for a month or more. How will they look?

Yep he got off easy and should've been suspended half a year.

It's disgusting this took a year. Should've taken a week at most was also against an Autistic kid.

They showed them celebrating his Birthday and the ending scene ironically is filmed 2 days before the final and him reading passages from a book for words of wisdom and motivation.

Not a TOTAL shock I guess. But still surprising. Guy could clearly still play...obviously nowhere near his prime, but still.

Guess he just wants to play golf. Can't totally blame him

Come on, Gareth. Come to the US. Its fun. You'll love it. And make lots of money.
huh?

Come to the MLS. Its a great, fun way for aging stars to finish their career.
He played for LAFC last season and won an MLS title

:lmao:

I'm an idiot. Sorry. I forgot.
Well to be fair, he didn't really play a lot. He didn't even start the final but did come on to score the tying goal in extra time that sent it to PKs

The funny thing is, I'm an Austin FC season ticket holder. So I actually watched them kick our *** in the conference final. And still forgot. lol.

It gives me pause to quote Robbie Fowler on anything, but a fellow traveler is a fellow traveler...

"Even Mo's goal ruling should be changed, ridiculous... how can a player not be interfering when he forces a defender to try and clear the ball?"

Hmm, I thought Messi to Miami was dead but this media member seems to be hinting that Messi to Miami (or some where else) may be alive

@MichaelRyanRuiz

I’m sure you noticed a tone change today in some of the PSG/Messi reporting. As I’ve maintained throughout this entire process, reports of an “PSG agreement already in place” were simply not accurate. Messi and his camp still very much going through all his options.
