Bayern have fired Naggelsmann and hired Tuchel

Fabrizio Romano
@FabrizioRomano

Exclusive news confirmed: Thomas Tuchel becomes new FC Bayern head coach, full agreement in place. He has already accepted the job. #FCBayern Contract agreed, documents are being prepared tonight.
I don’t get it. I think it was a quick decision and not the right one mid season. But there might be rot in the system that we don’t see. Or Kahn and crew have lost it.

I believe this suit was the reason for immediate termination.
Well, that there is a legit reason.

Qatari Sheikh Jassim has reportedly submitted a bid "believed to be more than £5billion" for Man United. Could be up to a billion more than Clearlake paid for Chelsea FC in a fire sale last year. I wonder how ManU supporters feel about this potential new chapter in the club's history. Probably better than the Glazers in some respects but not without concerns I'm sure.
Getting rid of the Glazers would be huge. Having no debt on the club, and IF the new owners actually invest in upgrading the infrastructure (stadium, training grounds, facilities, etc), it will be a good thing. Its a be careful what you wish for scenario for sure. Having a Saudi owner? not so much. Years of calling out City and commenting on Newcastle for it kind of puts egg on some fans faces too, but you can not control who buys the club, especially with the amounts discussed. 6 billion?

LA Dodgers went for 2 billion, Chelsea for 4B (correct?) now 6B for United? Insanity all around.

Of course this assumes the Glazers actually sell and aren't playing games (seems like they are and will not actually sell)

pulled this from ESPN..

Peru players and Spanish police officers got into an altercation in front of the team's hotel in Madrid on Monday.

Images on social media showed Peru players outside watching singing fans when one of the players was pushed back by an officer. The player moved the officer away and a small encounter ensued with other players and Peru staff getting involved with other police officers.

Peru is playing Morocco in a friendly at Atletico Madrid's home Metropolitano Stadium on Tuesday.

"We wanted to greet the people and [the police] started hitting us," Peruvian goalkeeper Pedro Gallese told Peruvian TV.

Gallese, who plays in MLS for Orlando City SC, was taken to a police station for interrogation and later released without charges.

The Peruvian foreign ministry called for "an immediate clarification" about what happened from the Spanish authorities. The Peruvian federation expressed solidarity with its players and said it respected and would collaborate with authorities. It asked for its fans in Madrid to refrain from any violent actions.

Madrid government official Mercedes Gonzalez said Tuesday there will be an investigation to find out whether excessive force was used by the police officers, but she said they acted to guarantee the safety of everyone.

She said Gallese was taken to the police station because he assaulted an officer.

Meanwhile, a 27-year-old worker at a Madrid hotel hosting the Morocco team was arrested for an alleged hate crime after posting derogatory comments on Islam and racist slurs against the players on social media, Spanish police and the hotel said on Tuesday.

Local police told Reuters the employee, a waiter at the Spanish capital's five-star Eurostars Hotel Tower, asked players to take photographs with him. He then uploaded the images to Instagram with xenophobic insults and tagged the Moroccan team's account, with the post receiving over 70,000 views.

The man is due to appear before a judge shortly, police said.

Information from Reuters was used in this story.

yuck.

FIFA on Wednesday stripped Indonesia of the right to stage this year's Under-20 men's World Cup, over what an Indonesian official said was a failure to honour its commitments to the tournament.

The decision to stop Indonesia staging the May 20-June 11 tournament was taken after the country's football federation (PSSI) said it had cancelled the draw because the governor of the largely Hindu island of Bali refused to host Israel's team.

"FIFA has decided, due to the current circumstances, to remove Indonesia as the host of the FIFA U-20 World Cup 2023," a FIFA statement said.

"A new host will be announced as soon as possible, with the dates of the tournament currently remaining unchanged. Potential sanctions against the PSSI may also be decided at a later stage."

World soccer's ruling body added that the decision had been taken following a meeting between its President Gianni Infantino and PSSI Chairman Erick Thohir.

"Indonesia is a FIFA member, so for any international soccer matters, we have to abide by the rules," Thohir said in a statement on PSSI's website.

"I ask all football lovers to keep their heads held high over this tough decision by FIFA. It's time we proved to FIFA to work harder to transform soccer, towards clean and high-achieving soccer."

The loss of hosting rights will be a big setback in Indonesia, where football has a massive following, despite the lack of international success since qualifying for the 1938 World Cup as the Dutch East Indies.

When asked why FIFA had decided to remove Indonesia as hosts, Zainudin Amali, deputy PSSI chief and former sports minister told KompasTV: "FIFA decided Indonesia didn't follow through with its earlier commitments while bidding."

Zainudin added that he hopes to avoid sanctions but fears another FIFA ban.

"That we were removed from hosting rights is already tough for us," he said.

Protesters marched in the capital Jakarta this month waving Indonesian and Palestinian flags and demanding that Israel was not allowed to participate.

Indonesia's population is predominantly Muslim. Most Indonesian Muslims practise a moderate version of Islam, but there has been a rise in religious conservatism in recent years that has crept into politics.

Earlier this week, the PSSI said losing hosting rights would harm Indonesian football teams' chances of taking part in other FIFA tournaments, while the economic losses would amount to "trillions of rupiah."

FIFA said on Wednesday that it was committed to aiding the PSSI following a deadly stampede last year that led to the deaths of 135 spectators at a stadium in East Java.

"Members of the FIFA team will continue to be present in Indonesia in the coming months and will provide the required assistance to the PSSI, under the leadership of President Thohir," FIFA said in the statement.

"A new meeting between the FIFA President and the PSSI President for further discussions will be scheduled shortly."

As hosts, Indonesia automatically qualified for the Under-20 World Cup, but they have not played in the tournament since 1979.

obviously need to take this with a grain of salt because he is also said to be re-signing at PSG and at Barcelona.

Shep Messing says on the Apple MLS 360 show that he has "inside info" that "it is going to happen and it's going to happen soon" regarding Messi coming to MLS.

Both Brent and Potter sacked today, either club giving the other one the job until the end of the season would make for great content

It might be even more interesting if Nagelsmann takes over Chelsea after Tuchel, who was sacked from Chelsea, took over Nagelsmann's job at Bayern.

I am honestly surprised Potter lasted this long.

Understand there have been already approaches for Julian Nagelsmann to be the new Chelsea head coach. Talks will continue to make final decision — but he’s the favorite. #CFC No confirmation on Pochettino links at this stage. Nagelsmann, mentioned in internal talks yesterday.

Conte to Leicester
Potter to Spurs
Rodgers to Chelsea
Poch to remain mysteriously above the fray, looking down pensively with his agent leaking that he is considering many great opportunities.

MLS Attendance

Charlotte with a 25% bump in attendance so far. STL with 100% attendance for year so far. Atlanta somehow with 102% attendance this week. Still warms my heart seeing how great a job the team and fans have done with AUFC. I sit in the wine and cheese seats but one day I’d like to go sit in the supporters section and go crazy all match.

Atlanta almost averaging 50k a game with the upper deck being opened once.

In a roaring Estadio Azteca, the enthralling 2-2 draw on Saturday night featured: Managers from both teams being sent off after a fight (which left Leon's Nicolas Larcamon with a torn shirt), six yellows shown during a 10-minute window in the second half, a frantic injury time equalizer from Leon, a controversial goal for Club America, and referee Fernando Hernandez becoming personally involved after making the bizarre decision to knee Leon's Lucas Romero in the groin while giving him a yellow card.
I want to add something here, but I'm struggling to find the right words.

I don't think I've seen the comparison of Brendan Rodgers to David Brent before
Dates to the Liverpool preseason docu when he was in charge there I belive.

He did a bit with three envelopes with names inside them at the start of camp -- players who wouldn't make the team IIRC. Never watched the full show, but the clips are painful.

This is amazing. From the lines on the field, I'm estimating that at well over 50 yards. Probably closer to 60, when you account for the horizontal distance (onto the field).

No offside on a throw in. Just chuck it into the box with everyone up a half-dozen times a game.

ETA: after I posted I remembered seeing a dude do this for our college team. Not that far, but the same idea. Wonder why it hasn't caught on?

a kid on my HS team did this too. couldn't throw it much further than I could, tbh... but it looked freaking sweet!

I saw this done more by the girls teams than guys. Typically used to cross the ball into the box and not so much down the field like this one. Nice though.
Takes a lot to get both feet down on the throw.

Atletico Madrid gained promotion to La Liga in 2002.

For the next 9 seasons, they finished: 11th, 7th, 11th, 10th, 7th, 4th, 4th, 9th, 7th.

Simeone joined in 2011/12 and has finished: 3rd, 1st, 3rd, 3rd, 3rd, 2nd, 2nd, 3rd, 1st, 3rd. World Class manager!!!!
A small part of me died while posting this.

We also had a kid on our team do this on my high school team.

In a pro stadium, it is easier to complete this down the line. It is very awkward to try to make this into a cross if you are deep in the opponents end because the signage boards are so close you can't run straight into the throw. So you kind of have to take an angle and twist at the very end which can limit some of the distance.

I too though have never understood why this never caught on or was taught. I could see some one as athletic as Jedi being able to do this quite well. And considering how a lot of throw in these days looks illegal to me (the way Weston for example throws them was 100% illegal when I grew up), I would think the refs would be more lenient.

and tbh- I can't remember ever seeing it thrown that far. if this was a "toss it in the mixer" like a corner- he'd have thrown it into touch on the opposite sideline.
but yeah- I had a guy on my club team who could throw it in like a corner... I scored a couple of goals where we'd just surprise the other team- he'd glance to me in the box, and I'd make the run.

A little disingenuous to say they "gained promotion" like they hadn't been a top flight club before. They went down for 2 seasons after like 65 years straight in the primera. In that season, Betis, Sevilla, and Atleti all got relegated.
I think it's just posted as a nice break-point for the before-and-after comparison on Simeone. Really impressive.

It has been an impressive turn. Not the most beautiful football, but effective at getting wins and even winning a league 2x with 2 super heavyweights.

So the Messi thing still looks like it will come down to 3 choices

Saudi - Up front money that is beyond insane and one that no other team can comes any where close to

PSG/Barca - Keeps him at the top levels of the game but likely making significantly less than in Saudi (orders of magnitude less) with very little on the back end.

MLS - Will almost certainly be the smallest up front money for Messi, less than even Barca or PSG, but MLS do hold an important chip in that they can offer Messi equity in the league in the form of an expansion team which would on the surface would be worth 100's of millions. Whether he would believe in the growth potential of MLS or not may be what allows him to reject or accept an MLS offer.

The report I saw yesterday said Messi wants one more year of CL but also that Inter Miami offered him an ownership stake in the team.

I think I am now actively rooting for West Ham to win Europa Conference League. And get relegated from the EPL.

I love the idea of a championship side playing in Europa next season.

Last quarter of the season has quite the battle for European places and relegation.

3. Newcastle 28 pl, 53pts - @ Brentford, @ AV, Tottenham, @ Everton, Southampton, Arsenal, @ Leeds, Leicester, @ Chelsea
4. Man United 28 pl, 53pts - Everton, @ Forest, @ Tottenham, AV, @ BHA, @ WHU, Wolves, @Bournemouth, Fulham, Chelsea (Plus Europa and FA Cup ties)
5. Tottenham 29 pl, 50pts - BHA, Bournemouth, @ Newcastle, United, @ Liverpool, CP, @ AV, Brentford, Leeds
6. Brighton 27pl, 46pts - @ Tottenham, @ Chelsea, Man City, @ Forest, Wolves, United, Everton, @ Arsenal, SH, @ AV (Plus FA Cup ties)

Top 2, probably not getting caught.
Arsenal 29pl 72 pts and City 28pl, 64 pts

12th place Palace is closer to relegation than 11th... 9 points behind 11th and only 7 up on 20th place Southampton.
