Zlatan has been banned 4 games for his rant against the refs after the 3-2 loss to Bordeaux. Plus he misses the CL game due to the harsh red vs Chelsea

Here is one of the bad calls that game -- https://vine.co/tags/Ibrahimovicangry

Very poor officiating to miss an obvious back pass like this, but i don't think he can complain too much about the ban after making those comments and given prior behavior.
That is pretty blatant. Where the refs just so amazed that happened they forgot to call it?

But he is Zlatan! You dont ban the Zlatan!

Interesting take on why England's "languishing" in the CL recently. He stops short of saying it, but the top of the EPL (1-7 places) is too competitive. It makes for a more or less interesting league (though if his theory is correct, Chelsea will more often than not make the top of the table a snoozer), but they'll have trouble really challenging Barca, RM, and Bayern who can all just loot the 3-20 teams in their leagues.

Pretty good article. Like most things these are cyclical and it will come back around to English clubs finding success in CL.

I haven't been following PL long enough to have formed strong opinions about what Goodman is saying but those were pretty interesting observations to me. Another thing that was interesting to me was that the three super clubs currently dominating are all supporter owned. That may mean exactly zero but I'll probably spend more than a little bit of time ruminating about it.

I wonder if the off the field folks in Montreal would rather host the first game instead of trying to sell a game they may be down 5 or 6 in aggregate?

In Montreal comes away only down 2 it will be probably the best they could expect.
Tickets already selling like crazy: link
Still selling like crazy. I hope they don't come back from the first leg down 5.

===================

The second leg of the Scotiabank Concacaf Champions League final in Montreal is a hot ticket. The Impact sold more than 35,000 tickets just over 24 hours after the start of ticket sales for the match against Club America April 29 at Olympic Stadium. The lower bowl of the stadium is already full for the America game, and the Impact expects a sellout of more than 60,000.

watched the end of the NYC Union game. woof. sometimes, it just hurts to watch this stuff.

conversely/similarly... RB v DC had NY playing some great stuff for the first 30, in spite of DC hacking the ever living #### out of them- how the ref swallowed the card early is beyond me with Franklin and Arnaud both deserving of yellows more than once. But the Stache and Grella were clicking and NY had some really good looking, quick play through the MF- but they need somebody else up front or at least another MF pushed up higher as either the final ball went astray or Wright-Phillips was too isolated.. But damn- some *blink* defending too many times from that no-name RB defense, including on whiffing marking the corner that lead to DCs goal against hte run of play. and then... RB just kinda fell apart. WE'll see what the 2nd half brings.

oh... Floppinho tried out a new soccer "class" today- more futsal, brazilianaire style than his last all-america, #### practice let's just play games and yell soccer experience last fall. Daddy floppo and JR were both really happy with the vibe of this thing today. and daddy got to kick around with some other dads. win-win.

Care to make a wager? This Russian porn star sure does.

Alina Yeremenko — a.k.a. Alina Henessy — is willing to give Moscow Dynamo forward Aleksandr Kokorin something he’s (probably) never had before: a 16-hour sex session.

During a Q&A with a Russian sports reporter, Yeremenko began rating soccer players on a scale from 1 to 10. While some footballers fared better than others — defender Sergei Ignashevich earned a measly 3 — it seems the 25-year-old “screen star” saved the best for last.

After awarding Kokorin the whole 10 points, Yeremenko promised if the 24-year-old soccer stud scores five more goals before the end of the season, she would “hold a 16-hour sex marathon with him as a thank you.”

It appears Kokorin has seven goals thus far this season and Moscow has nine games remaining.

While Kokorin has yet to comment, fans are taking it upon themselves to say “thanks, but no thanks” on his behalf.

“I’m not sure having sex with her is going to be the incentive he needs,” Dynamo fan Leon Golubev tells the Mirror. “I don’t think he is that basic.”

“If he only scores three [goals], does that mean she’ll just have an eight hour session with him?” posits Moscow supporter Oleg Andreeff.

Your move Kokorin — literally.

OK, Man U fans. Raise your hands if you predicted that Young, Carrick, Fellaini, and Herrera would be key cogs in your rotation while Di Maria, Facao, and RVP (and Luke Shaw, I guess) would be afterthoughts.

Gotta give Butthead credit. Took him a while, but he makes tough decisions like a real big boy manager.

I've eaten crow on Young - never would have thought he would play a key role. I expected Carrick and Herrera to play important roles but never would imagine moreso than ADM, Falcao and RVP. I'm also kind of shocked that Valencia and Blind have been the LB/RB. It looks like Rafael is gone and LVG will need a new RB because I don't think Valencia is the long-term answer.

I've had faith that LvG is a good manager and I'm not sure if he didn't luck in to a side that caught fire at the right time. I don't see this current side (even with it's recent run) challenging for the title next year. I think the defense in particular need some changes - I'm not a believer in Smalling or Jones but I could see giving one or both of them more time to mature if Hummels is brought in to anchor the defense.

It will also be interesting to see if he will keep Rooney as a lone striker next year - I've never thought that was his best position. Always saw his as the 2nd forward in a 4-4-2 - so LvG will have to decide what to do with him if he sticks with 4-2-3-1 most of the time. He could play the middle of the 3 but I think he's lost a step to play on the wing and he's needed in front of goal IMO.

Now - nothing is settled but they look good for top-4 now which is a huge relief for most United fans.

I agree with most of this. Rooney is more active and just as good in front of goal as RVP and Falcao so I am not surprised he is doing well there. Falcao hasnt settled in and RVP is ready to move on. He hasnt looked good since his diving header at the WC. Although I think what we may see happen next season is Rooney drops into the Fellaini roll and another striker is brought in. Fellaini is dropped to the bench. Lets be honest here though, Fellaini is getting too much credit. Vs Pool and Tottenham he put in a good half and a bad half in each. vs AV he was terrible. Vs City he had 1 good play (the goal which Hart should have saved) and several terrible plays. He even passed the ball straight out of bounds. He has more fouls then good plays. BUT, the team is winning and looking good so sitting him is the wrong choice as well.

Young keeping ADM out of the lineup is surprising. Carrick, Herrera and Mata are not surprising. Mata on the wing is actually along with Blind and Valencia on the outsides. I am not sure why Rafael is out of favor but its working.

The best part with this is that outside of Blind and Herrera its the team Moyes used to finish 7th. LVG has already surpassed last season's point total and looks like United again. Hopefully thats the last we hear about this?

Great win yesterday, Carrick is supposed to be fit for Chelsea next weekend so lets hope the roll continues. Even if United win out I do not think they will catch Chelsea but that means at least a 2nd place finish.

Will be at Loftus Road on Sunday to cheer the R's on to a miraculous win over the dastardly Pensioners! Woo! Hoo!
Hope you did not get hit by any flying objects thrown from the crowd yesterday!

Chelsea is limping toward a championship - playing mediocre at best since December but still somehow in pretty good position, seven points clear with a game in hand, 7 more to play.

Chelski has this ish on lock.
Hard to argue with that.

7 pts clear with a game in hand. 7 games left

v United, @ Arsenal, @ Leicester, v Palace, v Liverpool, @ WBA, v Sunderland

If Arsenal win out, add 18 points = 84. Chelsea need 12 from these 7.

Wins vs Leicester, Palace, WBA and Sunderland = 85 total for Chelsea

The filthy Blues can't beat Palace!
that would be sweet. Chelsea loose to United, Arsenal, Palace, Liverpool....

Arsenal at United would be that much bigger.

ETA, but does anyone really see Chelsea losing 4 of their last 7 to throw away the title?

re: Fallaini... when he's pushed up higher, United's team shape turns into something title-contenderish- regardless of his gaffes, his positive play makes a difference- but less than the team shape. that said, I thought he was really good on the day- caused all kinds of problems for City's defense and seemed to totally confuse Yaya.

Carrick and Herrera do a fantastic job defensively- thought they shut down City's MF. And they have enough quality going forward to do the job. Carrick in particular seems to always find the most dangerous ball forward or switching field. And their hard work seems to allow Mata room to operate where he does better- moving forward in the little spaces in the MF and behind the forwards.

Young- wow. best game I think I've seen him play start to finish. Seems like he and the rest of the players have finally figured out what their roles are- they don't have to be astonishing out there, just play their role.

I'm interested in wth is happening to City.

Fellaini has been winning more headers and has had good movement of late but between his constant fouls and more marginal then excellent play he still has a long way to go IMO. But yes he is causing problems for opponents and the lineup they have now is doing an excellent job. I wouldnt want to take him out. Fortunately he has helped provide the balance LVG needed, unfortunately it is :fro: that helped provide it.

It also gives United some unexpected questions as to what they do in the summer.
