If Hazard is the best player in the epl, what does that say about the epl? Where is he ranked in the world? 10th?
Gentlemen, Lets celebrate Eden Hazard today. PFA Player of the year. :hifive:
:hifive: May his career path follow Kyle Walker's after he won it :banned:
HIs trajectory looks good...

2009 : Ligue 1 Young Player of the Year
2010 : Ligue1 Young Player of the Year
2011: Ligue 1 Player of the Year
2012 : Ligue 1 Player of the Year
2013: Coached by Rafa Benitez
2014 : PFA Young Player for the Year
2015 : PFA Player of the Year
Wait, Hazard won the Player of the Year this year
:o

You can argue the top 5-6 players in the world all play for Barca and Real. After that the next best players are spread fairly evenly around the other leagues.

Costa, Remy and Drogba are all banged up. Possible that Mou starts 17 year old English striker Dominic Solanke on Sunday vs Arsenal?

Would LOVE to see that.

Dom didn't even make the bench. Chelsea playing with no true cf today, only a gimpy Drogba on the bench.OMG the Mind Games!!!11!
:bummer:Good news is we're going to clinch at home. :hifive:
Chelsea's u18's are playing the second leg in the FA Youth Cup final today, at home with a 1-3 win over City in the first leg, so it will be interesting if Dom plays today or if they maybe hold him for Wednesday's senior team game at Leicester City. He is the leading scorer for that team in the FA Youth Cup, the leading scorer for the CFC U21 in the Youth league and lead all scorers in the UEFA Youth league this year, which Chelsea won. Good candidate for a championship loan next season.

Is the match on anywhere? Would love to see these guys play.

Pretty certain that Mourinho has already rejected the idea of loaning out Solanke next season. I too would like to see him make the bench over the next few matches.

FYP. Muller and Neuer certainly have a claim to the spots behind Messi and Ronaldo right now.

Its live on Chelsea TV. You need a subscription, but there are often free trial deals available. The game kicks off in about 4 hours. Let me know if you watch. Its been an exciting run to the finals, including a crazy comeback against Spurs in the semi's. This is Chelsea's 4th straight year playing in the FA youth cup final, and will be 4th title in the past 6 years if they hold serve at home today.

I think its true that very few current U18s will ever play for the Chelsea senior team, which is the case with all top clubs, and certainly none of them any time soon. I expect several of these players to be good loan candidates next season. Do the names really matter to anyone but Chelsea fans? One aspect of this team I like, even though I don't care about the English national team, is they typically start 10 or 11 English nationals. That bodes well for the future because English players are usually more valuable to English clubs, making future loans and player sales more attractive. Loans in the Championship are usually seen as more attractive than going abroad.

Am I mistaken or is the FA/EPL adding in new roster rules to make sure that a certain amount of the roster comes from home grown players?

Sure, was just a joke. Curious if there are any really talented players who have caught your eye.

Correct - the FA made two recent changes which in its wisdom will help build a better national team. One is to make work permits and exceptions harder to get and the other is to increase the home grown requirements. The home grown rules change in several ways, moving the ages down, increasing the minimum numbers of players, and changing the "club-trained" requirements. I think u21s are still exempt though. For Chelsea, I think Cesc is no longer going to qualify as home-grown in England, but the club should not have any difficulty complying next season.

I only read about them and watch highlights. The normal progression for these young players will be to go on loan, hopefully to a Championship team. The young players in the CFC program with the best shot at playing for Mourinho next year are the ones currently on loan, like Patrick Bamford who was POY in the Championship this season, but there are many others who could make it next season. As Native notes, Mourniho has said he'll not loan Solanke or Loftus-Cheek, but that could just mean one more season practicing with the seniors while playing for the U21s, then likely going on loan the following year. All Chelsea fans want to see Solanke as the Drogba replacement next season, but a loan is likely much better for him than sitting as #3 forward behind Costa and Remy.

So this is the Montreal keeper situation if I have it right for the CCL final

Starting keeper: Cap tied, can't play

Backup keeper: Yellow card suspension, can't play

Second backup keeper: injured, can't play

Emergency keeper: never played an MLS game, just recently joined team for practice

Emergency backup keeper: youngster from academy just returning from injury.

You can't make that crap up for the biggest game in the teams history. :)

You would think Philly could find them a keeper :)

Hard to believe that author hasn't been snapped up by some team's analytics department.

Mourinho claimed this weekend that 2 to 3 youth team players would be with the first team next year. I believe he mentioned Izzy Brown by name (of course, Brown is kind of a product of West Brom's academy system and no more of a Chelsea youth product than Cesc and Theo were Arsenal youth products).

I'd expect Ruben Loftus-Cheek to get the loan move for seasoning, but he's a very highly regarded CM prospect.

Falcao hit a shot on goal against Everton.

It was his first shot on goal since January.
I thought he hit the woodwork vs Chelsea? anyway, none of this is surprising.

What a debacle of a game that was.

United severely miss Carrick and as much as I like Blind, he isnt as steady in that role.

Rooney was nonexistant.

Falcao is weak on the ball, cant hold it up and gets easily pushed off it.

Fellaini has shown over two games he can be easily marked out of a game just by paying attention to him and it means he goes from 2 good plays a game to 0 while elbows and flops increase from 3 to 10.

De Gea is out of sorts. He saves the first one earlier this season. Am worried that he is checked out and on his way to Real. Rumors of Lloris to United surfacing.

Defense forgot how to tackle on goal 1. Goal 2 was nice. Goal 3 was offside on Lukaku (as soon as he turns and runs for the ball which went right by him to noone but him he is involved in the play and offside.) but that is no excuse for everyone stopping and allowing the other player to run through and give the ref a reason to not call offside.

This loss hurts for many reasons but now United needs 9 points in 4 games to maintain top 4. To get higher they need to win out including beating Arsenal and hope Arsenal and City drop points.

3 wins (or 2 wins and 2 draws and hope goal diff maintains. 25 for United, 11 for Liverpool, 6 for Tottenham, 21 for Southampton)

United

v WBA (13), @ Palace (12), v Arsenal (3), @ Hull (16)

Arsenal

@ Hull (16), v Swansea (8), @ United (4), v Sunderland (18), v WBA (13)

City

@ Tottenham (6), v QPR (19), @ Swansea (8), v Southampton (7)

Liverpool

@ Hull (16), v QPR (19), @ Chelsea (1), v Palace (12), @ Stoke (9)

Tottenham

v Man City (2), @ Stoke (9), v Hull (16), @ Everton (10)

Southhampton

@ Sunderland (18), @ Leicester (17), v Villa (15), @ Man City (2)

Terry had an interesting comment in the post-match interview thing they do when asked about the different tactical setups between ManU and Arsenal. Basically said someone big and physical like Zouma could mark Fellaini out of the match in his typical condensing manner.

You have to feel for Evan Bush.

He spent the entire game in Costa Rica dodging objects thrown from the stands until one finally hit him in the head

Then he spends the entire game in Mexico having to fend off very bright lasers aimed at his eyes and face.

Then he picks up a horrendously called late yellow card that causes him to miss the biggest game of his life.

Bournemouth is close to earning promotion to the EPL for the first time ever. They just need to hold on to a 3 goal lead late at home.

They were in League 2 as recently as 2009.

He did but that is not considered a shot on goal by the stats.

A shot on goal is defined by one that can score. By definition a ball that hits the post and rebounds out can not score.
I never really thought about it. Makes sense though.

You and I could mark fellaini out of a match just by standing next to him. Although I wouldnt want to get hit with one of those elbows...

What, you don't think Middlesbrough can win by 20 this weekend?

Huge win for AFC Bournemouth today. The Cherries need a point from Saturday's game at Charlton to clinch promotion to the Premiership. They could win the Championship outright with a little help.

It's only been six years since Bournemouth narrowly withstood the dual challenges of liquidation and relegation to the Conference. Competing at the top tier with a ground capacity half that of Burnley's will be a challenge but making it back up the ladder against bigger richer clubs is an accomplishment. Bournemouth was one of the earliest teams with fan supported financing; their supporters' trust was an inspiration to AFC Wimbledon. The Cherries' rise has been largely accomplished on the back of foreign ownership (Russian Maxim Demin) but it's still a nice David vs. Goliath story.

He did but that is not considered a shot on goal by the stats.

A shot on goal is defined by one that can score. By definition a ball that hits the post and rebounds out can not score.
I never really thought about it. Makes sense though.

Fellaini has shown over two games he can be easily marked out of a game just by paying attention to him and it means he goes from 2 good plays a game to 0 while elbows and flops increase from 3 to 10..
Terry had an interesting comment in the post-match interview thing they do when asked about the different tactical setups between ManU and Arsenal. Basically said someone big and physical like Zouma could mark Fellaini out of the match in his typical condensing manner.
You and I could mark fellaini out of a match just by standing next to him. Although I wouldnt want to get hit with one of those elbows...

Lukaku wasn't offsides.
How so?
he was positionally offsides when the pass was made- but he clearly took himself out of the play by stopping his run and had nothing to do with the play. when he saw that Miralles received the ball, Lukaku was no longer offsides and continued his run.

Hey we'll GLADLY give them M'Bohli
You have to feel for Evan Bush.

He spent the entire game in Costa Rica dodging objects thrown from the stands until one finally hit him in the head

Then he spends the entire game in Mexico having to fend off very bright lasers aimed at his eyes and face.

Then he picks up a horrendously called late yellow card that causes him to miss the biggest game of his life.
Which is why I think Montreal should get Courtois in on a loan ASAP now that Chelsea have won the EPL.

Goliath story.
haven't been following the coca-cola league at all, so I appreciate these updates.

really excited to see a non-typical squad moving up to the EPL rather than one of the usual yo-yoing suspects.

Does anyone know what the smallest stadium capacity ever has been in the EPL?

Bournemouth's home ground seats 12k.

Based on 2 min of research I think the answer is yes. Oldham Athletic's Boundary Park is smaller today than Bournemouth's ground but Oldham wasn't all seater during their brief top flight run in the first two seasons of the Premier League era.

They have a +19 GD. They're promoted.

He has been with Montreal before.

I disagree. The ball went right by him and he turned to run after it. There was noone else the ball could be played too or was involved at that point. As soon as he turned and took steps toward the ball he became offside. It wasnt until everyone (Lukaku and the idiots in the United defense) stopped that Miralles became part of the play. It was Lukaku's movement that made him part of the play, caused everyone to stop and the flag should have gone up.

At least that is my recollection of the play, I may need to watch it again. But regardless, United should not have stopped playing and at that point the game was done and the 3rd goal didnt matter. And I hate that Thierry Henry agrees because his analysis is crap, so maybe I am wrong :boxing:

Don't linesmen wait until an offsides player touches the ball before making the call? When I saw it in real time my first thought was how smart Lukaku and Mirallas were. But I'm probably the last guy who should be debating rules interpretations.

watch it again. Lukaku makes a run offsides- when the pass is made and the ball goes over Lukaku's head, he stops running- pretty clearly, physically takes himself out of the play for split second. the ball runs to Miralles who wasn't offsides- when Lukaku sees that it's going to Miralles, he picks up his own run again. I could see making a claim that if Miralles passed back to Lukaku... maybe- that would definitely be a debate. as it is- pretty clear non-offsides to me.
