I would think that the Swiss are really the only option for the World Cup bid investigation. Surely any smoking (banking) guns against Blatter and company are there. I can believe those guys avoided using US banks. But Swiss banks on the other hand...

Revising my prediction of our next World Cup hosting to be 4026.

I feel that too, but I have to say I never expected this to happen. Of course these arrests are meaningless unless it comes with prosecution.

DOJ isn't in the habit of ending a four year investigation ending in indictments by abandoning the prosecution. The prosecutor has to bring something to trial to justify the budget.

I used the wrong term. I don't think I meant prosecution. I meant finding them guilty and getting penalties stiff enough that might make others who want to be corrupt sit up and notice

I just had a horrible thought.

What if this all backfires and some how they uncover corruption within US Soccer and more importantly tie it to SUM? yikes :(

  • Rafael Esquivel, 68, from Venezuela, a member of FIFA’s disciplinary committee.
  • Nicolas Leoz, 86, of Paraguay. He resigned as member of the FIFA executive committee and president of Conmebol, the South American soccer confederation, in 2013.
  • Julio Rocha, 64, of Nicaragua.
  • Costas Takkas, 58, of U.K. Current attaché to the Concacaf president.
Sports marketing executives:

  • lejandro Burzaco, 50, controlling principal of Torneos y Competencias SA of Argentina.
  • Aaron Davidson, 44, president of Traffic Sports USA Inc.
  • Hugo Jinkis, 70, controlling principal of Full Play Group SA of Argentina.
  • Mariano Jinkis, 40, controlling principal of Full Play Group SA of Argentina.
  • Jose Margulies, also known as Jose Lazaro, 75, of Brazil
 
The only positive thing out of this mess is that if Traffic goes down, maybe we can actually see an away US qualifier now without having to jump through hoops. Traffic was the group that always bought the rights and made it hard to find.

Sunil has known about the FBI investigation for years. He'd have gotten out if he were worried about US Soccer. CONCACAF was the place for the American grifter to operate and the FBI got most of that when they flipped Blazer in 2011.

If SUM goes down, club soccer in the US is in big trouble. SUM is what makes MLS profitable and as such what helps keep USL alive.

With the NASL's involvement with Traffic, SUM being involved could be as bad as it gets.

Luckily I have not heard anything about this.

 
On a more positive note, if Traffic does go down and subsequently hurt the NASL, it might hasten the merging of the NASL and USL into one stronger second division.

For the first sentence I was talking about Traffic specifically. Not about the overriding case.

For the second I was referring to the fact that it would be more positive to see the NASL and USL merge than it would be to see the entire US Soccer club structure go down if both SUM and Traffic are dirty.

Sounds like they are still investigating the 2018 and 2022 bids as well. My guess is they will try to flip some of these guys.

 
U.S. AG, head of DoJ, FBI director and now IRS all speaking at the presser. Unsurprisingly, the investigation appears to be focused on tax evasion.

Nike asked UE Llagostera if they would move away from horizontal stripes

Since SPORT revealed in December that Barcelona will change their vertical stripes for horizontal ones next season, there have been a lot of comments that the new shirt is similar to Llagostera's, a Catalan side in La Segunda Division.

According to La Sexta, Nike, manufacturers or Barça shirts, tried to get Llagostera to change their kit so that it would not be too similar to Barça's.

Nike's proposal was not taken well by the second tier side, who declined to change their kit immediately and stuck to their guns.

Nike and Barcelona still pressed ahead with the switch in stripes, which has not had a hugely positive reaction. It went on sale at the club shop on Tuesday morning. The away kit, which is in the colours of the Senyera flag, will not be available until June.

@PhilMQuinn: The US DOJ alleges in their indictment that Nike bribed the Brazilian federation to stay with them.
