US will never host anything important again IMO. Maybe not even the Gold Cup.

No chance anyone from FIFA's international band of thieves will ever set foot in the US again.

I might be wrong but I don't think FIFA has any say in where the confederations play their tournaments. And the Gold Cup is pretty much what keeps CONCACAF afloat financially so I think it will still be in the US in the future. Perhaps not every single time like now though.

I guess a lot will depend on how CONCACAF cleans up after this mess.

How the FIFA vote breaks downEvery country in FIFA gets a vote. Africa holds the most with 54, with Europe just behind at 53. To secure the presidency, a two-thirds majority is necessary on the first ballot, and if no one secures that, a simple majority vote on the second.

Here are the 4th round matchups for the US Open Cup

Fourth Round

June 16th
New York Cosmos vs NYCFC (7:30)
Philadelphia Union vs Rochester Rhinos (7:30)
New York Red Bulls vs Atlanta Silverbacks (7:30)
Sporting KC vs Saint Louis FC (8:30)
Chicago Fire vs Louisville City FC (8:30)
FC Dallas vs OKC Energy FC (9:00)
Colorado Rapids vs Colorado Springs Switchbacks (9:00)
San Jose Earthquakes vs Sacramento Republic FC (10:30)
Seattle Sounders vs Portland Timbers (10:30)

June 17th
Pittsburgh Riverhounds vs DC United (7:00)
Richmond Kickers vs Columbus Crew (7:00)
Charleston Battery vs Orlando City SC (7:30)
New England Revolution vs Charlotte Independence (7:30)
Real Salt Lake vs Seattle Sounders 2 (10:00)
LA Galaxy vs PSA Elite (10:30)

TBA
Houston Dynamo vs Austin Aztex

The Galaxy vs tiny PSA Elite is interesting because LA typically wants no part of this tournament. If LA ignores it like they usually do, this might be ripe for an upset.

Well duh!

One of the upcoming votes is its presidential election. Sepp Blatter seemed to refer to Qatar and Russia receiving upcoming World Cups as the root of the problem: "If two other countries had emerged from the envelope I think we may not have these problems."

Yeah I have to agree with this. What other countries have the infrastructure and security to put on a full Gold Cup like the US does? Canada, maybe Mexico? Maybe a joint group of several Central American countries...I'm sure the players would love a game in Saprissa and then San Pedro Sula 3 days later....

How off base is he with that statement? Would the US DOJ (or whever is pushing this) have gone after FIFA if the US had won one of those bids?

Somebody remind me what the bottom-line problem with Russia is? Same confed too soon?

Russia bought the vote as much as Qatar did, it was all a big package deal.

They shoulda just accepted the US bribes and put the Cup here. What, they're gonna extradite all of these people to Qatar? Qatar's FBI gonna dig up these bribes? Good luck with that....they should focus on their own problems, you know, like tons of people dying while trying to build stadiums.

U-S-A U-S-A, greatest country on earth, etc etc.

Fourth Round

June 16th

New York Cosmos vs NYCFC (7:30)
Derby2, electric boogaloo.

I would think the undefeated Cosmos have every reason to feel confident about this one.
Could that be Lampards first game? I have not heard when he is coming.

I would think the Cosmos are going to be favored unless NYCFC start the first team (which is rare in this round).

well yeah- but pretending that there isn't any corruption in FIFA that sepp can't handle himself- what is the issue with the Russia bid?

from what I've seen, even if NYC starts their first team I'd favor the Cosmos. no joke.

I don't want to say completely, but the nexus of this investigation was Blazer rolling early. This investigation has been going on for 4 years at this point and frankly started with the 2010 WC payment to Warner and 2011 Presidency vote. Once the IRS went after Blazer for tax evasion and he had something to offer them, they were going to investigate.

What I'm trying to say (badly) is the '18/'22 stuff is really just an outgrowth of previous graft/corruption.

no idea when Lampard's first game is or if he's even here yet.

but considering the rest of the EPL has already started their summer tours- which is insane to me- I don't see why he shouldn't be in town PDQ.

from Empire of Soccer:

The wait for Frank Lampard’s New York City FC debut is finally coming to an end.

Sources tell EoS Lampard will arrive in New York by the end of June, following a two-three week vacation and honeymoon. From there, he will train with the club for his mid-summer debut, which will likely come after NYCFC face Toronto FC at Yankee Stadium.

That time frame means the former Chelsea legend will either debut on the road against New England on July 18th or at Yankee Stadium on July 26th against Orlando City SC — one year and two days after his announced NYCFC signing on July 24th, 2014.

They stole paintings from XXX (I forget where) and then gave them to voters like Platini...and that's just the part I remember. Platini is just as dirty as all these guys.

I am unsure what you are asking.

I think the main issue is the purchasing of the WC over countries like England who tried to get it legitimately.

Although most people suspected some shenanigans with Russia considering how superior England's bid looked, scrutiny of the Russia World Cup has really stepped up as Putin has gone steadily more insane in the last two years or so, particularly with the annexation in the Ukraine. A lot of people who were protesting Qatar finally said, "and wait, how come this lunatic gets to host a World Cup?"

I am convinced Patini was the mastermind behind the corruption related to both 2018 and 2022.

Blatter feeling the love from all over

David Cameron (Prime Minister of the UK) wants FIFA president Sepp Blatter to resign: "The sooner that happens, the better." Cameron called it "unthinkable" that Blatter was fit to lead FIFA through the ongoing corruption investigation.

re: Copa Isn't part of the problem going to be a) the funds are frozen and b) the entity that controls media rights can't distribute the media. That's on top of the CONCACAF leadership being gonzo.

I think more teams are doing these after the season to avoid a major disruption in preseason. (At least that is the official line from Spurs).

EPL also starts a week earlier next season, so that may also play a role in keeping teams closer to home in pre-season. Though, Spurs will be traveling to Colorado to play the MLS all-stars on July 29th.

I agree.

The likelihood that his happens in the US next year is very very low now.

On the plus side CONCACAF's current leadership structure is a triumvirate of Canada, Mexico, and the US. If nothing else, maybe the have the leeway in CONCACAF's current state to effect some real change for the future.

Ok... maybe the US clout here actually helps CONCACAF clean up its act?

But if you were a Webb, Blazer, Warner protege and you'd somehow dodged the current hail of indictment bullets how willing would you be to come to the US? Just seems like if half the continental mucketies can't visit the US it'll be hard to host.

Just a guess, but I think the DOJ has indicted all the CONCACAF members it wants to. They went after the guys arranging the bribes, not the FA heads who just took them.

Let me put it this way...if you have been subjected to wiretaps, they let you know the matter has been settled. The fact that the USVI and Puerto Rican FA guys weren't arrested, tells me they won't be. Those 2 would be easy fish to fry.

no chance they're going to use evidence collected in this sting, along with whatever testimony they can glean from the recently detained/arrested to go after more of these guys?

The DOJ could not have been more emphatic when they said these first arrests are just the start of the process. I am sure they intend to flip these guys into bigger names.

I guess they could, but they only indicted the guys organizing the scheme not the guys who just took the bribes. Like I said they have low hanging fruit (USVI/Puerto Rico/any of the British islands) that they could use if they need more evidence. Those guys are easily "obtainable" at any time.

They want to go up the chain, not down it. Think of it like some of the insider trading cases recently. They keep trying to roll the SAC guys to get to Cohen. They're doing the same thing here to get Blatter. They have the wires, it's just a matter of linking him to them and for that they need guys like Warner, Webb, etc.

OH MY GOD. At Fifa congress, they' just tested e-voting system by asking delegates if Germany won World Cup. Five per cent said no! #FIFA

There's a jurisdictional problem with getting the guys who just took envelopes somewhere in the Caribbean as well. The ring leaders at least have some nexus to US banks and IT systems. The recipients, not so much.
