according to Juventus reporters, he is a pirlo "replacement", just not on the field.

Marchisio will move back to his more natural "anchor" role, where pirlo is now, hey just wont/dont play the same way.

If Juventus has ANY chance to swap pogba for verratti and don't take it, they're idiots. they really, truly need him. and it makes so much sense for both teams

 
Alves and Pedro have extended their contracts. Barcelona has signed Aleix Vidal from Sevilla, who will not play for the club until January.

 
According to DiMarzio, 3 teams are battling it out for Jackson Martinez of Porto, and one has apparently triggered his 35m buyout clause, according to his agent

Awesome. I was afraid to see either go. Especially Alves. Waiting until January for a starting RB was scary. Crazy to think Vidal is just going to sit that long. He isn't exactly a youth player.

 
The Champions League final drew a combined 3.7 million viewers on the two Fox channels up from 3.1 million last year on the same two channels.

Luciano Vietto apparantly moving from Villareal to Atletico for 15M pounds. 21 year old Argentinian Striker who scored 20 goals this past season.

 
I can't find it now but in one of those stories about the Champions League finals ratings, there was a note about the social media numbers. Despite the Belmont Stakes outdrawing eyeballs by about four to one, the number of CL tweets was double the number of tweets about the race, which says something about the age demographics of the respective audiences. Those stats are from Neilsen so I am assuming those are U.S. numbers only, apologies if I'm wrong about that.

It hasn't materialized yet. Lots of rumors, but nothing concrete. There was talk about Spain supporting Blatter in order to sidestep the bans on the Madrid clubs.In any case, I like the signing, as he has a strong bond with Simeone (former coach at racing in Argentina). I just hope that doesn't mean Atlético will lose Griezmann.

Personally, I think that Mandzukic should go, what with Vietto and Correa coming into the team. They have Torres and Raúl Jiménez if they want some size. Having good finishing and pacey strikers would do wonders for improving the dynamic play up top. It was too predictable and slow, and if not for Griezmann, 3rd place would have certainly been out of reach.

I'm always amazed that anybody cares about thoroughbred racing. Do guys who go to those events still wear fedoras?

The window for the Belmont Stakes was 1 hour. The TV ratings are averaged over the 1 hour time period. The actual race ratings obviously peak well above the average.

The twitter stats are not based on just 2 minutes. I think they extend well beyond the length of the tv program in question.

 
Were the tweet counts global or US only?

ETA: clicked the link and they appear to be global numbers. The Triple Crown is a US centric event.

I can't find the exact information about whether it is global or not.

If the data is global, we must have SIGNIFICANTLY more twitter users in the US. One game of the NBA finals had 3.5 times as many tweets as the Champions League Final.

Up late due to a work call. I turn the tv to the Serbia v Hungary u20 match at the 85th minute with Hungary up 1-0.

Serbia evened it up at 90:15 and then had a player sent off on a 2nd yellow a minute later.

Now on to extra time. Looks like this work call is going to last at least another 30 minutes now.

Holy crap! Hungary puts in their own net in the 119th minute, while a man up!

What a brutal way to get knocked out.

Sky reports that Milan are ready to buy out Jackson Martinez (his buy-out clause is €35m).

Galliani is in Porto right now, for the 2nd time in 2 days, to close the deal.

Wow. Milan is actually coming back. New owner is spending that $$$$$$$$$$$$$$

FIFA has suspended the 2026 World Cup bidding process amid a widening corruption scandal implicating previous bid contests.FIFA secretary general Jerome Valcke says it would be "nonsense" to begin the process now.

FIFA planned to write to its 209 member federations this week to explain the bidding timetable and rules. The 2026 host is expected to be chosen by the 209 members at their May 2017 meeting in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Potential bidders include the United States, Mexico, Canada and countries from Europe.

The German FA President has published a 10 point plan to fix FIFA. I agree with the general feel of these but 9 is going to be the toughest to sell since it would cut the legs off of Asia and Africa who have too long controlled things behind the scenes.

Niersbach's 10-point plan

1. A change at the top of FIFA as soon as possible. "With all due respect for his body of work, Sepp Blatter is not obliged to himself stall his own resignation," Niersbach said.

2. Resolve the corruption claims. "Coming to terms with the past is the requirement to win back new trust in the organisation," Niersbach said.

3. Introduce an integrity check for leading figures at FIFA. "Only completely trustworthy personalities should be allowed a seat in the most important committees of the world football's governing body," Niersbach said.

4. Allow members of the FIFA congress, rather than the continental associations, to decide on new members of the Executive Committee.

5. Bring in term limits for the "presidency and other important functions." UEFA had already voted in support of that proposal during the 2014 FIFA congress in Sao Paolo.

6. Make the process of deciding World Cup hosts transparent and ensure it is closely tied to technical evaluations of potential hosts, as is the case with UEFA. Niersbach said that, if FIFA had applied them to the Qatar bid for 2022, "the technically weakest bid would not have been put to vote." He contrasted that with the 2020 European Championship, which will be played all over the continent, and where Tel Aviv, Sofia, Minsk and Skopje were not allowed to enter the vote "because they did not fulfil the technical requirements."

7. Respect human rights. "Free speech, freedom of press, the protection of minorities, tolerance and respect are values that have to apply for all World Cup participants," Niersbach said.

8. Control cash flows.

9. Adapt the World Cup voting system. Niersbach said that the current "one country, one vote" system should come under scrutiny during the reform process, and said he regarded "a certain weighting of the votes on the basis of size and the sporting relevance of the associations" as "expedient."

It was a loan... Hope your CC doesn't charge foreign transaction fees, because you're unlikely o get those back if you don't get tix.
