I was so happy when that guy from Athletic shoved Neymar to the ground in the Copa final. I watch my kid's academy team warming up and half the kids are practicing rainbows. My son can't do a simple stepover in a game but works endlessly on his rainbow in the front yard. "Dad, Conner can do a rainbow" he says. #### Conner and his rainbow, it's all Neymar's fault. I search YouTube and find a dozen videos of Neymar losing the ball trying rainbows in Brazil and Spain. "It's the Brazilian way of playing" he says or some ####, but it never works, is pure bull####. Has he ever completed one? At least the rabona, which I am on record as hating, is occasionally useful. #### that guy and his rainbows.
He pulls off so much magic out of nowhere that doesn't make highlight reels because they don't end in goals. They still work and get by double and triple teams, but then he makes a pass or gets fouled, so it isn't on Sports Center. Meanwhile, yeah, he'll lose some balls and haters will make youtube videos about it. He has this Brazil team on his back. Without him they might lose games 7-1. And we're talking ####### Brazil here. He's a top 5 player in the world, easy. At 23.
I don't disagree, although I don't see many games. It will be interesting to see whether this Brazil team can beat Venezuela without Neymar. Normally, one would not expect to be concerned.

I like Neymar just fine and in the last couple months have come around to being wrong about him. So much of the play at Barca goes through Messi (and Suarez) that Neymar is third fiddle, but he's still really good.

But I'd still take Willian. Outside of Messi he may be my favorite non-homer player and I think he's valuable all over the field for 90 minutes. YMMV

Sounds like folks are having two different conversations - is Neymar top-3 (or so) vs. is Neymar top-25 (or so). The latter is pretty obvious yes but I think the former is probably a no but he could get there. Some people probably underrate him and others overrate him. I'm not sure there's a club in the world who wouldn't want him though.

Didn't see it mentioned, but NYCFC sign Iraola on a free transfer as a non-DP. Seems like a tidy bit of business for them.
very tidy- and a big hole for them, IMO.

they're still just horrible to watch- but maybe once he and Lamps settle in... whammo!
They need more than that imo.

The 3rd DP spot is going to so important for them if they can fill it this summer. Replacing their 3 worst starters with say Lamps, Pirlo and Iraola would be striking.

This team would have been great 5 years ago
Mix has been playing well- and poor David Villa is doing everything he can... but it's just brutal.

I really do hope that a couple more guys with a little bit of class will help tip the scales from bleh to hmmm for them (rather than a bunch of MLS journeymen who were never eye-catching even in their primes)

Playing in that band box can't help.

The bold is all you typically get from the expansion drafts. It takes a couple of years to weed those out and replace with better talent that the team either produces or finds itself.

Top 3? I would hope no one is trying to make that argument. He is probably top 3 at the Copa America but that is a different story. Messi, Ronaldo, Robben, Suarez, Costa, Reus, the list could keep going.

I hear you- but usually the teams surround those guys with just enough guys with quality to make it work... at least a little bit. NYC has two guys who can play, and the rest are just running around. If I had to choose between watching the USWNT and NYC... ugh. at least the games I've seen from OC, they knock it around a little bit- even the non-Kaka guys.

Sorry, no, what I'm trying to say is I think the people saying Neymar is great is coming across to those others who thinks he's just really good as though he's the equal of the top 3.

No. Some people are comparing him to Willian. That's the problem.

Can we all at least agree that Willian has the better hair? :fro:

Nope. neymar hair

just remembered I got to see Neymar and Santos open up RBNY arena (in a loss to RBs). He was electric. I thought he owned the first 15-20 minutes of the CL final- every time he got the ball you could see Juve collectively cringing. but then, either they shut him down, he shut himself down, or messi/donkey took over. I feel like those two are the more complete players- but Neymar is exciting to watch... Sterlingesque, you might say.

Kieran Trippier has completed his medical for Spurs. Recent reports suggest he is there to compete with Kyle Walker at RB, and that Walker's injuries are an on-going concern. It does represent another obstacle for Yedlin, but he has been rumored as going on loan to Norwich and/or getting a look as a MFer.

ETA - Spurs app had posted a first interview with Trippier, but it has since been removed. Still expect an official announcement sometime today.

said it before, but I was a big fan of this trippier kid this year. games I watched, he was always one of the major players, making things happen on both sides of the ball.

eta: plus... great name.

Trippier is official now. Nice piece of business for £3.5M.

Spurs next order of business appears to be Schneiderlin - apparently met Soton's price, waiting to see if Schneiderlin will agree to terms. Christoph Kramer and Gianelli Imbula are the back-up plans.

They're trolling, same as day one

I like that if someone has a different opinion of a player he's a hater or a troll. No in between, either suck him off or you hate him.

That's the old "Chase Stuart Theory of How the Shark Pool Evaluates Quarterbacks." There's the best couple of guys and then everybody else sucks.

Of course, this is coming from a guy (me) who has sworn off ranking just about anything these days because the internet wants to rank everything.

Looking forward to seeing Mexico today in the Copa...size up the Nat competition.
Aren't the Mexicans rolling with an U-22 squad in that tourney?
no. There is only 1 player under 22 on the squad.

It is far from their A squad though. It has been an impressive performance considering the laundry list of who is on the Gold Cup roster instead.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2015_Copa_Am%C3%A9rica_squads#Mexico
that's what surprised me the last time the US played Mexico... the lack of quality on their B/C side.

their roster for GC including Dos Santos bros before hos and Vela and Chachi. pretty scary attacking group of players.

Well, we won't be seeing any more spectacular rainbows this summer - Neymar suspended 4 games. Apparently, in addition to the accumulation of yellows and kicking the ball at an opponent, he also abused/shoved the ref in the tunnel. That BeIn subscription looks a bit less appealing now.

Fred and Fred doesn't interest you?
