Premature and unkind to speculate about Liverpool's possible bowl game?

Looks like DC United is contemplating making a formal tampering charge against Orlando City.
The speculation is that while DC was negotiating with Nocerino from AC Milan, that Kaka might have picked up the phone to convince his old team mate to come to Orlando instead.
MLS, for good or bad, still holds on to the ideal that they do not want their teams to bid against each other for a player.
Orlando has been told to stop talking to Nocerino but the damage might already be done.
FWIW, it does not sound like DC was very close to signing him.

I have no idea about their business model but this is an amazing amount of money one league is throwing around that just up until recently was still having teams not be able to pay players on time.

I think it is more than one league doing it (or tier or something, I have no clue about Chinesed soccer), but yeah... it is bananas.

big EPL game with Leicester v City this weekend.
this time last year, Leicester were sitting on 17pts, dead last in the table. considering this and their miraculous escape from the drop at the end of last season- that they've almost tripled their point total to date and are still battling for Europe... not to mention a title... great googly moogly.

early 90s Braves and the Celts when they acquired the big three. But the way the deck is stacked in soccer makes LCFC's rise more impressive to me.

With the Arsenal fade in full swing, I am unabashedly rooting for Leicester City to win the league. If only to counteract the silly mania for winning the possession battle. Last I checked, Leicester had over 50% of possession in a grand total of 1 EPL game this year. And they're top of the table. I love me some countering football.

I completely disagree. I think Leicester generates as many effective attacks as anyone, which is what I find exciting.
I have seen them play 3 times in the last month. Dreadful games to watch. 1 draw, 1 Leicester win, 1 Spurs win.They are well coached - very organized on defense, but no build up in the attack - its pretty much 100% counter-attacking. They play that style very well - and they deserve their spot in the table - but the game just gets mired down in their defensive end for very long periods of the game - not fun to watch.
If you are looking at highlights - sure the counterattack is fun to see - but when you are watching 90 minutes of balls being passed around in their defensive end its ugly - to me.

Jackson Martinez went to Guangzhou Evergrande, who also have Paulinho, a couple other Brazilians, and are managed by Big Phil. Teixeira and Ramires are at Jiangsu Suning, which is the club that reportedly also made huge offers for Oscar and Hulk last week. Jiangsu is managed by Chelsea legend Dan Petrescu. The soccer writers/reporters are absolute crap - frequently reporting obviously unfounded rumors as serious stories. The front page has autoplay videos and there are ads, side-bars, and other crap inserted in the middle of the text, making it almost unreadable. The on-air personalities seem to be complete morons, usually just rambling stream of consciousness with no substance, which they pass off as analysis. Yet it is still a main source for me - eagerly looking for better alternatives, especially for a quick look at lineups, scores, schedules, standings.

Alejandro Moreno, who seems like a very nice guy, matter-of-factly "reported" last month that Messi and Neymar would not play in the Copa America this summer. The basis for his claim was that Barca wouldn't allow it - an obvious falsehood.

They finished 5th a few seasons ago which was hitting well above their weight. Everton isn't a top team anymore. They are a solid middle team and I expect as long as Martinez can keep them there he will stay.

Other than Marcotti, it doesn't seem that ESPN has any talent that actually reports on soccer all that much. I guess Carlisle on the website does a bit, but he mostly seems to react. Twellman breaks any MLS story they can get.
NBC doesn't really have much journalistic punch either. Neil Ashton is a joke.
This is one area where Fox is probably the best, as they try to get Grant Wahl out there, who is an actual reporter.

Everton has stable ownership without the impatient foreign parvenus who dot modern soccer. They've had more managerial stability than most clubs for as long as I followed the game. Walter Smith was the only guy I can remember who got the sack but he was in place longer than Martinez has been.
Another factor is Martinez himself. I've read numerous accounts that paint him as a nice guy by football manager standards. He certainly comes across well on television. That helps his longevity vs someone with a more abrasive personality.

they should be a bit higher than where they are now, IMO, but they're basically a 6-10 quality team. couple spots less is a bit of a disappointment, couple spots more is fantastic- I don't see anything else happening given the squad. too good to go down, not good enough to go up.

They have a lot of talent in the first XI. A top 3-5 striker in Lukaku. A very good AM in Deolefeu. A very highly rated young CB in Stones and England verteran in Jags. Baines is fading a bit (and was injured a lot), but he's still among the best LBs. Coleman is one of the best attacking RBs, if you value that stuff.

And they have decent players behind that. Barkley is inconsistent but talented. As is Mirallas. Besic is solid. Barry is solid against most teams but struggles a bit for pace. Howard is on the decline, but not the worst GK in the league. Funes Mori looks to be functional.
I suppose its a bit damning that they still play Lennon and Kone, but otherwise they're pretty good. They're not deep, though. Still, their defensive problems should have been ifixed by now.

I like all of those guys... and I actually like what Kone brings- especially his partnering with Lukaku. but he fades/disappears, which seems to be the MO for most of the team. and I like the team- just feel that, especially with the MF, they have a tough time consistently bossing games. if Barkley brought his ceiling every game? Mirralas too- looks world-class a third of the time, and goofy the rest. Barry is solid and consistent, but not a difference maker IMO. Baines.. forgot he's even playing this year- has he been injured? these are all guys that are definitely good enough to put Everton into Europe... but like I wrote earlier, that would be a victory. just like finishing anywhere near the bottom 3 would be a bizarre trainwreck. An interesting question. I wonder if they're a little more reactionary to ticket prices because supply (in the guise of more clubs within reach to follow) is greater than a closed franchise league would offer. Just spitballin' though.
