Blank said Atlanta United remains committed to beginning play in 2017 and “fully anticipates” playing all 17 of its home games in the new stadium that season, meaning it would play on the road through the first three months of the schedule. But he said an alternate temporary venue will be lined up in Atlanta for the soccer team if needed, with a decision on that possibility coming later this year.

Seattle's ability to hold a lead has been impressive in the first two games this season.  Why not just all go to the bench and get a drink instead at the kickoff after Seattle scores?

Thought RSL looked decent. Yeah... a couple of missed aitters Including the pk. No 7 Looked good, as did Plata. Should be a  dangerous attaxking unit against mls teams.

 
It is kind of ironic after all the bad calls MLS teams have seen away in Concacaf over the years that RSL did not take advantage of the home cooking pk call that was clearly outside the box.

I watched most of the 1st half of that RSL game and thought it was entertaining.  Who is RSL's right mid -- Martinez?  He was killing Tigres while I was watching, but I had no idea who he was.  Actually I had no idea who any of the RSL players were but they played well overall I thought.

You must know Beckerman and Rimando at least from being a US Nats fan.

Juan Manual Martinez is another one of the Argentines that are flooding the league.  He was signed as a DP last summer by RSL.  He came from Boca Juniors

up until recently United has just plain looked worse....

For schedule:

City has: Newcastle, AV, Norwich, United (home), Bournmouth, WBA, Chelsea (away), Stoke, Southhampton, Arsenal (home), Swansea
United has: WBA, Palace, WHA, City (away), Everton, Tottenham, AV, WHam, Leicester (home), Norwich, Bournmouth

City with game in hand and 2 top 6 opponents plus Chelsea and champions league
United with 4 top 6 opponents, FA Cup and Europa vs Liverpool

(top 6 since West Ham is only 1 point behind City/United)

Martinez Is #7? Thats the guy I liked too. And agree they were fun to watxh

 
Kaka has been recalled to the Brazilian National team for its upcoming two World Cup Qualifiers.

It is cool to see players like Kaka and Giovinco receive recalls after coming to MLS.  

 
Did you guys see the story about Charlie Stillitano getting the chiefs from Man U, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal all in a meeting recently to discuss changes to the Champions League to assure the big teams of automatic entry and continuing the dialogue about forming a closed super league?

I don't want to hide my long held disgust for this man as he tried to kill MLS back when it was a very vulnerable business instead preferring the meaningless friendly style of soccer in the US that we get fed every summer.

He is now making brilliant statements to back up his reasoning for automatic entry like 

He told US satellite radio station SiriusXM : “What would Manchester United argue: did we create soccer or did Leicester create [it]?”

“Let’s call it the money pot created by soccer and the fandom around the world. Who has had more of an integral role, Manchester United or Leicester?

Leicester might be the best story in last 5 years in the sport and this guy thinks they are the problem.

Here is a list of countries and the total senior international caps in MLS as of the start of the 2016 season.  I don't think I would have guessed some of these and certainly not the order outside of the US being first

1) US: 1197

2) Honduras: 397

3) England: 363

4) Panama: 325

5) Ireland: 242

6) Jamaica: 240

7) Canada: 212

8) Costa Rica: 197

9) Italy: 154

10) Belgium: 119

 
I'm enjoying watching Stillitano get killed, but I'm mostly on his side.  Promotion and relegation can be fun.  It can also really suck.  I don't think we'll find many Villa fans enthusing over the romance of the promotion/relegation system this summer.  Leicester is a great story.  Leeds is an awful cautionary tale. 

But none of that really matters to me.  I enjoy watching Barcelona play Real at least twice a year.  If someone were to tell me, hey how about if Barcelona were also to play Bayern two times a year.  And Juventus.  And Chelsea.  That would be pretty damn tasty.  And yeah, that would suck for Bolton or Rayo Vallacano.  I get that. But I don't think we'd lose all the great stories.   I love the Leicester story, but no more than I love the Golden State Warriors' story.  And that happened in a closed league.  I also love watching Barcelona put three transcendent talents on their forward line and kill people all season.  That's not an underdog story.  But it's still a great story.  We'd still have times when a relative have-not team identified the right young talent and broke through.

What's so great about the Warriors story? They drafted well in a system that rewards bad teams :shrug:

If you'd prefer I used the Spurs, I could.  But the evidence suggests that the NBA doesn't reward bad teams.  Which is why so many teams are in the lottery year after year.  Steph Curry was drafted at 7.  Klay Thompson was drafted at 11.  Draymond Green was drafted in the second round.

What if Juvie and Chelsea weren't very good?

I guess I don't understand what the criteria would be for teams qualifying for CL play on something besides results. Or who would decide. Or when clubs would stop qualifying on popularity (Leeds is a good example here, actually, unless the point is that, with a little bit of financial help from additional Euro play, Leeds would still be successful).

I think you need to understand how weird something like the Champions League in. Most leagues don't pick their members by merit.  A group of teams band together and form a league with common operating rules.  So the owners would decide who gets in.  They'd decide who they wanted to partner with. 

I'm not talking about the proposals for Champions League reforms.  Those are all being proposed to try to keep the big clubs from forming the Super League in the first place.  I'm talking about an actual continental league.  Not a secondary knockout tournament.

True, I was talking about Stillitano's bs CL reforms. But CL isn't any weirder than the NCAA basketball tournament, and in fact makes a lot more sense in that it requires teams to qualify by an objective criteria, not by a Selection Committe made up of Puny Humans. Also, in the home leagues of these Euro clubs (as it stands), those teams aren't picking their fellow league members either. They would in a Super League (which would be making a mistake to formulate a closed shop, IMO), sure, but that's mostly an American-style operation. I think American-style operations are really screwed up and unfair to lots of fans and cities.

Well, they pick to join the countries FA. 

I'm going to be shocked if there isn't a continental league in the future.  They're just leaving too much money on the table.  Form a 28 team league (pick your own number).  Pick who you want (within reason). Play your 54 dates and be done with it.  

As to the competition, I'd rather see some of the larger cities/smaller countries teams that are automatic outs actually get the TV revenue to at least sort of be competitive in an international setting.  Granted they'll be fodder in this league, but I'd rather root for Benfica (pick your favorite small country/big city "minnow") over watching some of these mid-table EPL teams go at it.

I don't think a closed Champions League would be bad for the Leicesters of world at all. If they were locked out they could all concentrate on the league. 

 
The "Super League" is pretty much the antithesis of sports and competition. Just an awful idea for soccer in general.

yeah... I'm on the "no like" side of super league. 

already talked about how much I like seeing the minnows do their thing against the powerhouses. plus, aside from the top-tier handful of perennially big sides, the next tier is in flux- so who wants to see that group trotted out every year when there are Leicesters and Southamptons and Manchester Uniteds that can scrap there way up there. or even Liverpool.
