Bugs me for Mexico too.  I get that sponsors want to keep selling shirts, but the best kits are iconic.  Brazil.  Argentina. Netherlands.  Tweak em however you want, but the color scheme and basic look should remain the same.  My parents bought my kid a US National Team Freedom Pop onesie for his baby shower.  It's now going to be two jerseys out of date.

                       Hart

Clyne      Jags   Cahill     Rose

             Dier  Henderson

Sterling        Rooney        Lallana

                     Kane
No room for Alli?  I'd put him in over Rooney.  Also a healthy Sturridge ( :lmao:  ) and Kane combo would be devastating.

Speaking of Alli, I saw yesterday that Spurs will have won 4 of the past 5 PL Young Player of the Year awards if (when) he wins this year - Walker, Bale, (Hazard), Kane and Alli.

Sorry as much as it pains me to say it, I'd take Rooney out of the England lineup.  His touch has left him, he cant run anymore and he is only half the shooter he was (afraid of his left foot).  Would seriously consider a Kane/Vardy partnership up top at this point.  In any case I am sure there are better options then Rooney at the moment.

For the CAM you really have to consider Alli.  Even the commentators from the last Spurs BPL match said Alli has gone from unknown on the international team to almost guaranteed to get a spot in the 11.

I have no problem with that esp if he is in form, which Rooney isnt.  And I am not sure how in form Rooney will be with the current injury.

The problem with Cazorla is that he's too similar to Ozil.  They both need the space in between the lines to operate.  When Cazorla is playing great in that area, Ozil isn't at his best.  When Ozil has played great in that area, and Santi has been healthy, Santi has been at CM.  Play them both at AM and you have very little width and nobody getting in behind.

Monreal is a much better defender than Gibbs.  Gibbs is the Theo Walcott of left backs.  You see him and you say, "Wow, he looks dangerous!  Look how he got into that space!"  And then you look at his stats at the end of the game and realize he has 0 chances created and a cross completion percentage of 7%."  All while letting Bolasie or whoever run by him like a turnstile.

I was loving Santi playing more of a Pirlo role this year staying deep, getting out of trouble and picking out pass. I thought he was showing to be one of the best in the league there.

Figured on Barkley being a slam dunk in that spot- but seems like he's been up and down this year. Alli has been fantastic.

and yeah- time to put Rooney out to pasture.

I suppose that whenever I pick an 11, it's half my opinion and half what I think will happen.  I just don't see Roy dropping Rooney.  Maybe he should.  But if he drops England's all-time scorer (and the starter at that position when England went perfect in qualifying) for a 20 year old kid and England underperform?  He'll get crucified.  I suppose Roy will get crucified for anything less than a semi in any case, but I just don't think he'll be that brave.

He was good in that position with Coquelin beside him.  Of course, that meant leaving out Ramsey or starting him on the right.  Arsenal are a deep team, but I think its hard to get the absolute Best XI players on the field at the same time.

You are probably correct.  I guess it really depends on when Rooney returns from injury and how he looks when he does.

Is the plan to have a dedicated Euro thread like with the World Cup.  I could probably whip up some team previews.  I'm sure it won't hold with 24 teams, but I've always felt the 16 team Euros were the best tourneys.

Maybe a mixed Tourney thread with Euro and Copa? Are temporally change the Nats thread to the Copa thread for the summer?

The three impact English players that I see significantly elevating England's chances, purely through individual skill, are Alli, Barkley, & Kane.  Alli seems to be the complete package, aside from his penchant for unnecessary yellows.

I'll pitch in the Portugal preview...

                            Doesn't Matter

Doesn't Matter    Doesn't Matter  Doesn't Matter  Doesn't Matter

             Doesn't Matter Doesn't Matter

Doesn't Matter      Doesn't Matter       Doesn't Matter

                     RONALDO

I like the combined thread for Euro and Copa.

So much good soccer this summer it is going to be scary.  There are a few days where the Euros and Copa overlap too making for almost non stop games.

I don't know anyone on the team except for Steven Davis (Capt.), Jonny Davis and Chris Brunt, but I know I'll tear up when the Northern Ireland fans start to sing "It's Just Like Watching Brazil."

Remember in the World Cup preview when I said that the most indispensable player for Portugal was Jaoa Moutinho and then he played like a poor man's Tom Cleverly all tournament?  Good times.

Speaking of Copa, any new word on who will be there?  Messi in, but Neymar playing in Olympics?  What about other Brazilians, will they take Willian/Dani/Marcelo or another name also since they can have three over 23?

Does anyone know whether Sturridge will play for England if he remains healthy?  Klopp has him in the longest stretch of health since the World Cup..assuming he sustains that, he'd be a heckuva weapon off the bench.

Dani Alves rocks back in his chair, a glint in his eye. “Imagine if I’d been any good,” he says. Imagine. If he’d been any good, he might have made more La Liga appearances than any foreigner ever or provided a hundred assists, more than any other player apart from Lionel Messi over the last decade in Spain. He might have been voted into the FIFPro team five times or won so many trophies that he’s lost count. If Dani Alves had been any good, he might have won five leagues, four cups, three European Cups, three Club World Cups and two Uefa Cups.
