This is the best part for me - where I work is about 10-15 minutes away on foot.  I have a parking pass in a lot down there.  Free parking and cheap concessions - suck it Gator.

 
So, who does Aresenal chase this summer?  I think they need another  striker / attacking mid to put up top along with Giroud and Sanchez.  Also, a quicker CB would be helpful IMO.

The one name that everyone keeps mentioning is Granit Xhaka from Gladbach.  He's a holding midfielder that kind of combines the best attributes of Cazorla and Coquelin in the role, as he's a physical presence with big time passing range.

There are a number of faint rumors at striker.  Higuain (who is 29, but who also just scored the most goals in a single Serie A season ever), Morata, Icardi.  Icardi would be a good signing, but I think Inter would ask for a ton.  There are also rumors of them getting Vincent Janssen from AZ.  He scored a bunch of goals last season, but as you know, Jozy and Bacon were pretty successful there too.  You never know if you're getting a Romario, Ronaldo, or Suarez or a Luuk DeJong.  Janssen is apparently a good chance creator as well though. 

Everyone agrees they need a CB, but I haven't heard any names.   I know they liked Aymeric Laporte, but he got hurt and is still probably going to go to Man City. 

EDIT:  Here is an article on Janssen.  Looking at the embedded video, the author seems to be right in that Janssen's best attribute is the he's a deft finisher with either foot.

Tough out for the Gulls after an 89 point season. 

I guess I'm obliged to root for Wednesday now to keep Assem Allam and his ridiculous Hull Tigers schtick out of the top flight (unless Derby County can pull off a miracle).

Very tough. Total domination in the first half. Hit the inside of the cross bar before finally scoring. Gave up a goal on a cross that went untouched. 

Have hope for next season, but it's such an uphill climb.

The Championship is such a competitive and unpredictable league.  B&HA have lost three times in the past five playoffs.  Hopefully, they'll make it through sometime but promotion will be particularly brutal next year with the arrival of fallen giants Newcastle and Villa.

 
Gonzalo Huguain scored a hat trick in the last game of the season for Napoli.

This gave him a total of 36 goals for the season in Serie A.

He beat a total of 35 goals which was set a whopping 66 years ago and many felt that in the modern Italian game, that number might never be broken.

 
Newly Retired, I "liked"  your previous post, because I appreciate everything you bring to this thread, with a non-partisan bent.  I truly admire how you consistently update/report on the world/landscape of soccer, as well as it's history; your love of the game is apparent through your objectivity & your thoroughness.  It is much appreciated.  That being said, #### Higuain; of all the players to break such a record, it had to be the petulant, now-balding, crybaby... who never performs when his country/club need him the most.  This comes from a petulant, crybaby Roma tifoso who's "club" was single-handedly kept out of 2nd place by said #####  :unsure: .  No bias here, always objective.  I truly appreciate all your reporting & observations.  Grazie.

Amazing depth of quality at the top countries.  Just think how much impact some of these would have on the US team.

 
Giovinco did not get called in for the 28 man Italian National Team training camp.

While this is not a total surprise since he is actively in season, there are reports out of Italy which suggest he will not make the Euro roster.

Italy will release their 30 man provisional roster soon.

Looks like Paco didn't make it either.  The striking options for Spain are a bit weak.  Nolito is 29 and didn't do much in the second half of the season.  Morata can't top 10 goals with Juve (although I think he's talented).  Aduriz has 3 caps and he's 35, but he's probably the best option.  I plan to call him "Spanish Wondo."

This is insane; I can't remember a more lacking Azzuri roster for a major tournament.  Veratti was to be the lynchpin/playmaker, with Marchisio providing defensive cover, as well as occasional attacking intent.  They're both out, due to injury...so more pressure is on the attacking front, which now requires more individual ingenuity.  Italia lacks any world class striker, who can improvise & individually make his own chances...yet Chelsea####...i mean Conte...refuses to adapt,  leaving the "Atomic Ant" out, as well as Pirlo.  I think he's also going to leave out Gabbiadini, who can create his own shot, & possibly Insigne...due to his personal "politics".  All my faith lies in Bernadeschi; he is an amazing talent.  He currently plays on the wing for Fiorentina, but his true position is striker.  I truly think he is on  par  with Dybala (talent wise), & he will shine at the Euro's, if ####e plays him properly.  In summation... "Lil' Pharaoh" might be Italy's only hope up front, & Lord Jonathan Walters shall lead dear Ireland to the semis...

I have a feeling we'll see either Morata or Aduriz up top for Spain.  The bigger question is what to do at RB.  They listed Azpilicueta, Juanfran, and Carvajal in the 25.  I have to think one of those will be one of the two not taken to France. 

 
Who's the stupidest poster in this thread? Why, me, of course, after realizing only yesterday that I've had the ability to record all the weekday games for about six months now. I can't watch at work but all I have to do now is avoid this thread for a couple of hours in the afternoon and then watch the games in blissful ignorance when I get home.

Last year Orlando City decided they needed to build a bigger stadium than they originally planned.  As such they gave back the money received from the Government and decided to privately fund the stadium. 

One of the ways they are raising money is by basically selling a green card for $500k to interested investors.

Orlando City owner Flavio Augusto da Silva has used his connections in his native Brazil to find investors interested in a cash-for-visa program that is helping defray costs of the $156 million soccer stadium set to open in 2017. The New York Times reported that a commitment to invest $500,000 in the downtown stadium gets foreign investors two season tickets plus a green card.

Da Silva came to the United States himself with a EB-5 visa from Brazil 2009 by investing in a project in Vermont. The EB-5 program targets projects in rural areas and poor urban neighborhoods, and the number of visas awarded grew to almost 9,000 last year.

“For us, it was a business decision,” said da Silva of the financial support he sought out for the stadium in the Parramore neighborhood of Orlando after he failed to secure state support. “There was already demand from people who want to move to the U.S., have a green card and have a good opportunity to participate in the growth of the club.”

So far, the project has attracted 30 investors for a commitment of $15 million The goal: 150 investors, or $75 million. Investors must be screened and prove their visa will create at least 10 jobs.

Toto (real name: Salvatore Schillachi) was a relative unknown in 1990 internationally.  He received his very first cap in March of 1990 and then made the WC squad.

In the 1990 WC he became a star scoring 6 goals in the WC and winning the Golden Ball.

Even more amazing is that in his entire international career after WC 1990, he scored exactly 1 goal.

Kuyt had 19 in 32 appearances for Feyenoord this year.  Guy was a scoring machine in the Eredivisie in his previous stint there.

In any case, I have an irrational love for Dirk Kuyt because of his insane workrate.  Seems like the type of player Ben Olsen might covet for DCU.

There is something in the water in Eredivisie that bloats some scoring totals.

Bradley scored 16 one year in Eredivisie.  He has never scored more than 5 before or after in one season.

Jozy scored 51 goals in 93 games in all compeitions in 2 years in Holland.

Outside of Holland, Jozy has scored 39 goals in 184 games in all competitions.

Same here. Dude is a machine. I'll take him on my team any day. 

 
Derby County pulled back two in the first half of the second leg at Hull.  They're now trailing 3-2 with 45 min left to play.  I don't believe the away goals rule applies to Football League playoffs.  They play extra times and go to PKs if necessary.

Smalling denies de Gea the golden gloves with an own goal at the death.  Rooney, Rashford and Young score for United.  only 17 more needed to get a CL spot.

 
Just bought tickets to the Sacramento Republic v. Liverpool u21s game this Saturday. :banned:  

The wife and kid went to a Republic game a few weeks ago after one of my son's games. They loved the stadium at atmosphere. 

 
I'm nervous.  Haven't been this pumped/nervous for a sporting event since Bama/Saban's first national championship game v Texas.
