I've been reading about RB Leipzig, leaders of the Bundesliga.

Apparently they are VERY unpopular in Germany.  Some articles insinuate that they are "destroying" football in Germany.  

I don't get it.  They are playing with a bunch of kids and have an incredible youth setup.  Why the hate?

It would only do that league some good to get a few more challengers in there.

 
Did you NYCFC fans know that they have a chance to make the Champions League next year if Seattle does not win MLS Cup?  I guess I should have known that but it did not dawn on me until watching the conference finals last night and realizing the two Canadian teams can not get the bid and Colorado already having qualified throws some kinks into the system.

Dallas winning both the US Open Cup and the Supporters Shield  started a ripple affect on who gets in.

 
Fun Guardian rumor of the week--Manyoo, as expected, is waving a crapload of cash at Saints for Virgil but so is the Southampton graduate club with the added bonus of a Sturridge loan in January.

The battle for first place in Group K commences in about 35 minutes but of course I have to record it for tonight.

@The Gator...now that I've paid my dues...do I have your permission to start posting anti-Gerrard chants?  I must admit , they're ####### hilarious, but this day is one of tribute & melancholy, so I'd rather not cross the Rubicon...

Ronald Koeman said after yesterday's game that he "wasn't aware" of Josh Sims' abilities. Sims, who assisted on the games's only goal, has been at Saints academy since 2011 and has 14 appearances for England's junior teams.

 
6 weeks out for Coutinho.  No surgery needed, apparently.  Could have been a lot worse.  He'll miss some of the prime fixture congestion, but if he stays on the timetable, he'd be back by the time Mane is off to the AFCON. 

 
With Colorado losing last night in the conference finals, I think we have two "firsts" coming up

1) We will have a first time winner as none of Seattle, Toronto or Montreal have ever won MLS Cup

2) This will be the first MLS Cup that does not include at least 1 original 1996 team.

Yeah that's the key.  Basically it's a high ankle sprain.   But the Coutinho/Firmino/Mane trio is done until late Feb/early March or whenever AFCON is over...

So it's time for Origi and Sturridge to step up.

Also, gotta get Lallana back healthy too.  

The interesting thing is whether Klopp keeps Firmino up top.  If he does, I don't know that there's a path for Sturridge or Origi into the regular starting lineup.  I could see Wijnaldum or Lallana coming up to Coutinho's role.

But if he drops Firmino back to Cout's position, then there's a spot for a striker.

looked so good vs fenyoord, then come back and look soft vs WHA.  Well taken free kick and goal by WBA. Nice response by United, Pogba to Zlatan.  2nd half come out looking slow and disinterested.  Needing a goal you take off Mata and Rashford but leave a worthless Lingard on and put on Rooney and Mkhy.  Mkhy looked good and should have started for Lingard.  Now, because of your idiotic choices for the bench, you dont have Martial to put on so you can have Schweini sit?  And then here comes the Fro to get run by, then get booked then miss a header or 3....  I dont get it.  

Why must Mata be subbed every game at 60 mins?
Why was Lingard left in when he did nothing?
Why didn't Mkhy start?
Why do yo believe Rooney and Fellaini can save your day?

Another week, another great day by a EPL keeper vs United, another set of questionable subbing.  Its amazing.

And really, sent to the stands for kicking a water bottle? Not even a talking to first?

 
Some tough numbers for Jose and ManU.

I was looking at historical tables.  The lowest number of points an EPL winner has in the last ten years is 80.  Usually it's a good bit higher than that, though Leicester did win last year with 81.

Chelsea is on pace for 90 points, LIV and City on pace for 87/88, so the top teams this year are scoring well.

Manchester united currently has 20 points on pace for 58.  Let's assume that everything finally starts clicking and they start winning games. 

For them to acheive 80 points, the lowest number by a winner in the last ten years...aside from needing the current top 4 to all have a massive downturn in points, they'd also need to get 60 points in 25 games... something like 18 wins, 6 draws and 1 loss.

For them to acheive a more realistic 90 points, they'd need 70 points in 25 games.  That would basically require a record of 23-1-1

 
Yeah I don't get the lindgaard love either. He's ok I guess but I don't see anything he does especially well.

I get that martial has struggled a bit this year but his ability to run at people is at an elite level. considering how man u has struggled you think TSO would want that xfactor on the field.

What does a guy like Memphis do all day in a situation like this? Does he just sit around and play video games knowing he is never going  to get any run?

 
Everything is ok in Man U land.  They've moved on from pesky things like results and are looking forward to buying Griezmann next summer.

In other words they need to start clicking and make an INVINCIBLES type run or win the Europa League.

Top 4 is still possible.  Winning the league, not so much.

 
Well, I do think Man U is out of the title race.  If that was the expectation, they're in trouble.  There is still time to have a respectable season and build toward more success next year.  But for perhaps the first time, I wonder whether Mourinho can do it anymore.  This is a guy who, whatever you thought of him, was a real player's manager in his first stint at Chelsea.  Guys like Terry and Drogba would run through a wall for him.  Same at Inter.  Something at Madrid seemed to change him and even if he had success again at Chelsea the guys who didn't know him seemed to eventually just tire of the act.  Jose spends so much time seething at how the media and refs treat him he seems to have lost the passion to fix things on the practice pitch.  He thinks his resume should entitle him to the respect of the players and I wonder if he's forgotten how to earn it.
