Yeah I don't get the lindgaard love either. He's ok I guess but I don't see anything he does especially well.

I get that martial has struggled a bit this year but his ability to run at people is at an elite level. considering how man u has struggled you think TSO would want that xfactor on the field.

What does a guy like Memphis do all day in a situation like this? Does he just sit around and play video games knowing he is never going  to get any run?
Lingard is a good role player... periodic Cup start or coming off the bench.  He works hard and has some attacking skill.  He should be the rotational guy behind Martial, Rashford, Mkhy.  Martial has struggled but not getting game time isnt helping.  I don't even understand him not on the bench yesterday.

Memphis.... sheesh, not even sure what to say.  He should be the other rotational with Lingard.  He got LVG'd bigtime I guess.

Everything is ok in Man U land.  They've moved on from pesky things like results and are looking forward to buying Griezmann next summer.
Concentrate on the Griezmann

In other words they need to start clicking and make an INVINCIBLES type run or win the Europa League.

Top 4 is still possible.  Winning the league, not so much.
Yeah top 4 is the goal I'm sure.  They play Tott in 2 weeks, so they have a chance to close on 5th if they can win that one.  But the top 4 are all in danger of pulling away.

If I'm United, I'm starting to worry about Jose. He completely bombed last year with Chelsea, and things don't look much better now.  I'm wondering if he personally needs a change of scenery, ie, a new league, as the refs and the media over here is on his back all the time.

I think he is too well known to get away from the refs and media.  Not sure where he can hide from his rep.

Laurent Blanc for United Coach!

Well, I do think Man U is out of the title race.  If that was the expectation, they're in trouble.  There is still time to have a respectable season and build toward more success next year.  But for perhaps the first time, I wonder whether Mourinho can do it anymore.  This is a guy who, whatever you thought of him, was a real player's manager in his first stint at Chelsea.  Guys like Terry and Drogba would run through a wall for him.  Same at Inter.  Something at Madrid seemed to change him and even if he had success again at Chelsea the guys who didn't know him seemed to eventually just tire of the act.  Jose spends so much time seething at how the media and refs treat him he seems to have lost the passion to fix things on the practice pitch.  He thinks his resume should entitle him to the respect of the players and I wonder if he's forgotten how to earn it.
Special Once

Schtick aside, Pulisic to Liverpool makes a lot of sense with PC and Mane out for a month each in Dec/Jan.  He also fits the mold.  And you'd think the added US exposure would throw off some cash for the team too if he is who we think he is.

It may make sense for LFC, but only makes sense for the player and his club if the money is so big they can't refuse. Its pretty hard to beat what he's got now in terms of professional development, so he'd essentially be taking a huge risk in return for what would have to be life-changing money.

Facts shmacts, Jack. This here is Pool talk.

Among the survivors, whose injuries have not yet been detailed, are Chapecoense football players Jackson Follman, Alan Ruschel, Rafael Correa Gobbato and Helio Hermito Zampier Neto.  A Bolivian flight attendant, Ximena Suarez, and a Brazilian journalist, Rafael Henzel, were also among those who were taken to a regional hospital for treatment. Football player Marcos Danilo Padilha also survived the crash, according to Colombia's official emergency management agency UNGRD, but later died while being attended to by paramedics.

UNGRD said via Twitter: "We confirm the rescue of a sixth survivor who is being evacuated. We are not ruling out the possibility of finding more survivors."
really hoping they're able to find more survivors.

Sunderland
Pretty amazing that the top 5 teams only have 6 total losses amongst them, with top-of-the-table Chelsea bearing the brunt with two.  This season has all the makings of a classic...

Still standing by my prediction of Chelsea winning the league, but more importantly, Big Sam coming to the rescue and resurrecting Sunderland in the spring...

maybe. reports are that nothing decided until after upcoming NASL meeting
the rumors on twitter from decent sources are that the NASL is asking US Soccer to mediate a merger between the USL and NASL.

And with the USL having all the cards, they are ignoring this and simply want to pick up the specific pieces they want once the NASL folds.

fwiw... from local cbs news...

However, a Cosmos source told WFAN.com on Monday that the rumors of the team’s demise have been greatly exaggerated.

“Are they going to close up shop and go away?” the source with knowledge of the situation told me. “I think that is highly highly unlikely. That’s not going to happen. This is not the death of the Cosmos after all. It’s not a case of the Cosmos disappearing and going away. It’s a case of what’s the next move. It’s not another 30-year hiatus. That’s not happening.”

Here’s what we do know. After the league meetings conclude, the NASL could look a lot different in 2017. In fact, the league could be on the verge of losing Division II status in the United States. With Minnesota moving to MLS and Tampa Bay and Ottawa jumping to the United Soccer League, the NASL now stands at 11 teams, including the expansion San Francisco Deltas that are scheduled to begin play next season.

But, with Miami FC, Rayo OKC, and the Ft. Lauderdale Strikers experiencing financial difficulty, the NASL could be dwindling down to as few as seven or eight clubs. If that ends up being the case, the Cosmos could depart as well as I’ve been told they want no part of league that small.  The Cosmos also have no intention of following Tampa Bay and Ottawa to the USL because the team feels that playing in a Division III league should not be an option for a club that plays in New York.

So here are the Cosmos’ options for 2017, again, based on the outcome of the NASL meetings this week. There was a report Tuesday morning saying the team had ceased operations, but nothing official had come from the Cosmos, themselves.

So, barring an official announcement of some kind, here is what could still happen:

1. Stay in NASL and hope the league can add some teams in the near future.

2. Reconsider the USL should that league gain Division II status in the United States.

3. Join a different league or perhaps make plans to start a new league.

4. Take the 2017 season off and see what options will be there for the club in 2018.  The Cosmos could also be a touring club that puts together a team to play a series of friendlies throughout the year.

The bottom line is that on Monday there were a lot of people that started to jump to conclusions about the Cosmos’ future. We really won’t know what the future holds until the league meetings take place. In fact, the Cosmos don’t even know what lies ahead for them, but it sure sounds to me like there will continue be a New York Cosmos in some way, shape or form.

After Wednesday, the the Cosmos’ future should be a bit clearer.

fwiw- I reached out to my gb in the cosmos front office... if he's even still there after the recent cuts. I didn't ask anything specific- just sent my best wishes to him and the team in uncertain times. but if he responds with anything, I'll post it here.

the real interesting question for me is whether the USL wants the Cosmos or not if they have their choice of which teams to take.....

With the MLS involvement in the USL and the fact that the Cosmos attendance has plummeted while NYCFC and Red Bull are both doing very well at the gate, makes me think they would take a pass.

This story of the Brazilian team is just killing me.  As are all the sad photos people are putting on twitter.  Really sad for the families, the players, the fans, and everyone touched by this tragedy.

It may make sense for LFC, but only makes sense for the player and his club if the money is so big they can't refuse. Its pretty hard to beat what he's got now in terms of professional development, so he'd essentially be taking a huge risk in return for what would have to be life-changing money.
I think Pulisic is a pipe dream because why would he leave in January when he has CL this year.  Maybe in the summer, but even then I just don't think it will happen, despite all the "links".

As for the professional development, I'd imagine being under Klopp would be the best professional development someone could ask for.  Klopp cultivates talent and enjoys coaching players and seeing them get better.  I can't think of a better environment for the kid.

hofstra wasn't exactly the best spot... and then hofstra booted them- so a better stadium (and the yonkers one is still on the books) would go a long way towards helping. they've been linked to a move to brooklyn- which would be smart, IMO.

hard to argue with the professional development he and the rest of the youngsters are getting at BD

ignoring the money part it would be near insane for him to move right now.  The development system, the availability of significant game time, the quality of the league the quality of the team, Champions League...

You can't draw it up any better than that if we tried for an 18 year old American.
