and don't forget "fit", US players always "fit" when struggling to find compliments. :)

You can't blame them though.  We don't produce enough Donovan's, Dempsey's, Pulisic's to change anyone's minds.

Outside the top 4 leagues and the upper half of France, there is very little gap between MLS and the other 48 Euro countries IMO.  Now I will say that a ton of leagues in Europe have 2 or 3 teams that are better than anything MLS can put on the field, but that is due to how many countries funnel all the best players to 2 or 3 teams, which in MLS's structure can not happen.

Scotland is a fantastic example.  I think Celtic could sweep every domestic trophy in the US but I would be hard pressed to say the rest of the league is as good as the average MLS team.

what I've seen from the bottom tier of the top 4 leagues, I think MLS teams would do just fine there... in the relegation zone for sure, but capable of inclusion. which puts them in the top tier of the 2nd division of those top 4 countries. never going to fight for a euro spot, but might stay up a few seasons. and with the money those teams get for inclusion in those leagues and the difference in structure, no reason to think they couldn't improve. 

 
I think an average MLS team would struggle if you put them in the Championship.

But, I also think that an average Championship team would struggle if you put them in MLS.

Different styles of play would make it difficult for one team to thrive in the other league.  A lot like trying to compare apples to oranges.

I kinda disagree. I think both would figure it out pdq. 

the main difference is in the $$ structure and long term what kind of ceiling that produces. Championship team can make the EPL, get EPL money, spend well, strike gold and become Leicester. MLS team... :shrug:  ... win a couple of championships on the backs of a few good players and then... somebody else's turn.

I guess they are going after the agent who was apparently working for, and paid by, Pogba, United and Juventus - apparently without disclosing the incestuous relationship to all of them.

 
oh... coworker's friend is apparently friend with one of the crystal palace owners and thought they'd get along... co-worker has been texting with him all day. going to have a meeting with him at the end of the month in london and show him one of our projects there. I'm talking EPL* boys! EPL houses! next I have to work on my teammate now NYCFC dr to see about getting unimpressed PIrlo as a client

From what I've seen, some people feel it's a problem when the Agent controls players to the degree that Pogba's agent did.  He reportedly got 40M for this transfer or something along those lines.  That kind of power is ridiculous for agents and causes agents to push for transfers.  I doubt it's anything United did wrong...unfortunately.

 
So today I was thinking back to a conversation I had with @Ramsay Hunt Experience about Klopp "developing talent".

My lack of perspective is still a problem for me, as I'm only finishing my 3rd season.  But I believe I'm starting to get a better picture of things.

Much of my excitement for the hiring of Klopp was me reading news reports about many of the "developments" Klopp was responsible for.  Reus, Lewandowski, etc.

Thus far, Liverpool is certainly on an upward trend.  But how much development has Klopp done of his players?  I don't know.

But my bigger question is how much development does any manager really do for players?  And how much development will players really have?  

A guy like Jordan Ibe or the Traore from Middlesbrough have insane physical skills....but have no idea what to do with the ball in the final 3rd.  Can that talent ever be developed?  Are elite players likely to become elite players regardless of who they play for?  Has Antonio Conte really "developed" anyone at Chelsea, or has he built a formation based on the talent at hand and taught the players to fit in that foundation?

I guess Pochettino is a great example of a player that has "developed" players, but how much of it has been his developmental skills, and how much of it is due to the natural skills of Alli, Kane coming to the fore, along with a great back line?

No idea, just thought I'd throw this topic out there for discussion.

This is truely Eff-You money.  The gap between the have nots, the haves and the super clubs is widening every year.

Real Madrid is spending 45m Euro's on a 16 year Brazilian kid who has not yet had even a single minute of first team soccer yet nor has he even practiced with the first team in Brazil and he can't come to Europe until he is 18.

Leipzig has clinched a CL Group Stage spot.

I think my favorite backhanded compliment was when Klinsmann brought Donovan to Bayern and Rumminegge said "well, he can kick a ball hard."

They were a powerhouse when I first lived in Germany way back in the day - won a European Cup and a few Bundesligas in the early-mid 80s.  Per wikipedia: Hamburg "is the only team that has played in every season of the Bundesliga since its foundation in 1963, at which time the team was led by German national captain Uwe Seeler."

FIFA rules allow for this I believe. They state a range for length and width with the only caveat  being it can not be square.

ETA, I find it funny that an added 5m x 1m means the pitch will be MUCH larger.

Thought this at first too, but then remembered that baseball fields are all different.
