Don't want to start a topic on this, but do want to barf out my stress and figured you guys know things.

My 11-year old son has been having back pain for a few weeks -- mostly low-grade and intermittent, but definitely bothering him.  Had him to the Dr. and she took X-rays of his hip but didn't see much.  Ibuprofen and rest.  Two weeks later, last week, he had an acute bout of gastritis on that same side, but it resolved after a second Dr.'s visit -- who took an X-ray of his stomach and right hip.  This week we noticed that the hip in question was off -- basically like it was seriously swollen or out of place somehow.  Back to the Dr. yesterday and she ordered a full round of X-rays ("stat"), specifically targeting the hip again, but also looking at possible scoliosis.

Long story short, I'm not a doctor, but his spine looks curved a bit below halfway and I'm expecting a scoliosis DX when we hear from her Monday.  I think the "swollen" hip we're seeing is actually from it being tilted and rotated.  Anyone have experience with this?  It's not cancer or anything, but it seems like kind of a bigger deal than the normal kid stuff we've had so far and I can't really find very much about the cases that don't end in a brace and/or surgery.  How life altering would this be?  And etc?

ETA:  @gianmarco
I have not had any experience with that for either of my kids - hoping it turns up to be something relatively straightforward!

I don't have much in the way of advice, I actually was told I have very mild scoliosis but it's never been a big issue for me.  I do want to say good luck to your son though - T&Ps.

Anyways... Trying to say, gl dinsy... Don't mess around. Get him to the right Dr, stat.

I remember a close friend of mine grew up with scoliosis. She wore a big back brace - like full torso sized for some time but turned out perfectly normal. She was a track and basketball star in HS. :2cents:

Roma's stadium project is now delayed because of FROGS!  Yes, frogs...apparently because of their rare ecosystem.

If this is true, it would be totally unfrogivable.

Tried to pm you, but you can't receive any messages...

tldr: Hope all goes as well as possible...

Happy Father's Day, gb!

The nuanced, mental interplay between these great football minds - Guus Hiddink and Eric Wynalda- is fascinating. And we were worried that Fox might let us down ...

Drunk Floppo is the best Floppo.
Drunk Floppo is also correct Floppo
I"m going to have to go back and re-read some things... that was an unusually long weekend of drinking for me. floppinho had two shows at local clubs (school of rock doing AC/DC vs Sabbath) so I started drinking early, and continued on with BIL who came up for the shows with his kids. waking up today hurt. brain-hurt.

Seems like @shader has had a busy off-season - List of proposed changes being considered to Soccer rules

- A proposal to scrap 45-minute halves is to be looked at by football's lawmakers to deter time-wasting.
Instead, there could be two periods of 30 minutes with the clock stopped whenever the ball goes out of play. LOL, no

- Another proposal would see players not being allowed to follow up and score if a penalty is saved - if the spot-kick "is not successful", play would stop and a goal-kick awarded. Stupid

-  Additionally, it suggests match officials stop their watch:

  • from a penalty being awarded to the spot-kick being taken
  • from a goal being scored until the match resumes from the kick-off
  • from asking an injured player if he requires treatment to play restarting
  • from the referee showing a yellow or red card to play resuming
  • from the signal of a substitution to play restarting
  • from a referee starting to pace a free-kick to when it is taken
- Which ideas are up for discussion? Most of those are good and would more accurately add time

This is where it gets interesting. One of the proposals would allow being able to dribble straight from a free-kick to "encourage attacking play as the player who is fouled can stop the ball and then immediately continue their dribble/attacking move". Other measures include:

  • passing to yourself at a free-kick Cool, corner No and goal-kick No
  • a stadium clock which stops and starts along with the referee's watch Interesting
  • allowing the goal-kick to be taken even if the ball is moving JFC
  • a goal-kick being taken on the same side that the ball went out on Can't all of these GK rules be part of the 5 second rule? c'mon
  • a "clearer and more consistent definition" of handball Gllllllllll
  • a player who scores a goal or stops a goal with his hands gets a red card duh?
  • a keeper who handles a backpass or throw-in from a team-mate concedes a penalty IFKs are more fun
  • the referee can award a goal if a player stops a goal being scored by handling on or close to the goal-line Interesting, but will be a mess.
  • referees can only blow for half-time or full-time when the ball goes out of play okay.......
  • a penalty kick is either scored or missed/saved and players cannot follow up to score to stop encroachment into the penalty area Don't be stupid just because you don't enforce the current rule

BTW - VAR seems to be a complete mess, and I can't see FIFA fixing it in any meaningful way.  It should go away.  About the only fix I see that would be workable - is the replay official watches in realtime - gets like 6 seconds to overturn a call/non-call, and it has to be clear and convincing evidence.

Having said that, I am still in favor of video replay to go after diving/simulation, with post-game punishments.  I think what FA had proposed - 3 member board, former player, official, and other - all have to agree - seems like a reasonable step.

I feel like living in this country gives us a heads up on Europeans in that we've seen this all happen before.  The clamor for instant replay, the promise that it will be only be used for really important calls, then the slow creep to where we reach a point of having 4 old guys huddling around a booth looking at 15 different angles to determine if a guy caught a ball, and determining that he did not, even when the entire country thinks he did.

That's the one thing that proponents of the system don't understand.  Instituting VAR doesn't mean the refs will now get all the calls right. Instead it opens up a myriad of other controversies, rule clarifications and other issues that will slow down the game and make it much less free-flowing...

imo

I did a lot of reading on Monchi a year or so ago.  He is awesome.  I think you will be in good shape.  Looks like you guys have beaten Tottenham and Arsenal to the signing of Jean Michael Seri, who was great last year.

That was a reaction to NoMoSalah!...not Monchi.

Liverpool are such wankers.

Holy hell.  I knew MLS was starting to turn the corner, but this seems to indicate they are fairly flush with cash.  If I am reading this correctly, that is a $450 million expense they just took in buying back the 25% SUM shares they sold off a few years back.

And further, this means SUM is now valued some where in the $1.8 billion area.   If this is anyone where near close, that exhibits amazing growth which all started from the time they (MLS owners) decided to form SUM just to purchase the rights from FIFA, to the 2002 World Cup that no one else wanted to bid on, for I think $40m at that time.

======================================================

Major League Soccer on Monday bought out the only outside investors in its media and marketing arm, Soccer United Marketing.

In 2012, Providence Equity Partners bought 25 percent of SUM for $150 million. The company tripled its initial investment, according to Bloomberg.

SUM handles media, promotions and marketing for MLS, the U.S. Soccer Federation, Mexico games played in the U.S. and the CONCACAF Gold Cup, and has helped organize U.S. tours for top foreign clubs and national teams.

Yeah totally sucks. If MLS is going to decide the next 4 teams before 11/18 we are cooked over here :sadbanana:

We have discussed this before, and the headline is a bit pre-mature - because I am sure money can fix all issues - but right now it looks like RB Liepzig are going to miss out on both Champions League and Europa this season.

UEFA will rule next month on the ownership issue - common owners are not permitted to enter more than 1 team in a competition. RB Salzberg, by virtue of winning the Austrian Bundesliga - would get the spot in CL, and because they could be dropped into Europa at some point, Liepzig would not be allowed in that competition either.

This article does not discuss it, but I think Red Bull had been taking steps to ensure both European clubs could be considered distinct entities with different ownerships - so between that, and some money changing hands, I expect Liepzig will be able to compete - but it would be a big setback for the organization if Liepzig are banned.  I am pretty certain Liepzig are considered the crown jewel of the Red Bull teams - so unless Red Bull create an un-sporting race car-like team rule that prevents Salzberg from finishing ahead of Liepzig in the respective standings, it seems unlikely that Liepzig can achieve its goals - and the model would be broken.

Should come as no surprise, but the addition of Salah (medical tomorrow) will bump LFC up my pre-season rankings.
