got an email about the incoming class of freshman for CU's team... never had that before. 2 kids from the Dallas academy, one from Frisco (IIRC, home of the deuce). all of the kids sound like superstars. I think I slipped in that I was a semi-pro surfer in my press bio.

basically putting anything to do with the Dallas Academy must be a nice stepping stone to a scholarship.

Dempsey was from a tiny town called Nacogdoches.  It is far away from Frisco (which is where the FC Dallas stadium is).

jeebus. my brain is scaring me. nagodoches... of course.

during my years, we'd always have a kid or three from Europe, the caribbean, west coast and then a bunch of eastern regional guys from the tri-state area. but CU wasn't quite as competitive back then as it is now... most of my teammates were B+, 1100 SAT type guys at best.

but with the academies... wow. and these kids are all just so much better at the fundamentals than most of my peers ever were.

And in some places, like we are discussing in the other thread, like Philly, the academies are full time high school and soccer programs.  You can't ask for a better environment as a 14 year old American.

Keita to Liverpool being reported as a done deal but nothing official yet.

If they land VvD as well it's a contender for the best transfer class in club history.  Probably behind only Torres, Mascherano and Skrtel in 2007/2008.

Rumored to be 70MM pounds.

Liverpool fans

Never change.  You guys are great entertainment.

It is a well known fact that every Liverpool class is better than the year before, and that makes each new class the de facto best transfer class ever.

It pains me to say it but if Liverpool signed Keity and Van Dijk to go along with Mo Salah, they'd be a really tough out. Just think of all those quick guys in the front six with a defense that could actually make stops.

Spurs sell Walker to City for a cool 50 million.  Kyle Walker is apparently worth roughly as much as Lacazette.  No better asset than an English player who doesn't totally suck.  If they can get another 50 million for Eric Dier, we should build a statue of Levy.

The Statue of Levity, perhaps?

Harry Kane must be worth like £200 million

If they're turning down 50 million for Dier, they're insane.  He's a nice player.  He's not worth that.
He is definitely not worth it.  I love Dier - but if I were to list the players from hardest to easiest to replace - Walker would be at the bottom, and Dier right above him.  Wanyama is a much better DM, and finding a RCB for a fraction of that price would be easy - even in this crazy market.

But, Dier is also a bit of the heart and soul of the team in terms of energy and mentality, and Poch (and Dele) love him.  Levy will not sell for less than stupid money - end even then its unlikely - because Spurs don't need to sell him, he is on a long-term contract, and Spurs don't need the money.

I'm surprised they got the 50MM since he wanted to leave.  I guess City thought it was worth paying a boatload extra not to have Levy drag it out into the season.

You know you're having a slow transfer window when you search for 'Chelsea' on Twitter and all you get are photos of Chelsea Handler, Chelsea Clinton, or Chelsea Manning....

Chelsea/Aubameyang rumours seem too good to be true. I would love to see that transfer.

I have also heard that with add-ons - the Walker deal will approach £65M

Man City dug themselves a huge hole here - they released all of their senior RBs, and then missed out on Alves - they really had no choice but to overpay for Walker.

It was rhetorical, guy.

Maybe he'll force a move.  He's named after Eric Cantona and his idol is Roy Keane. I'd take him for 50 mil.  Only bummer is that he's not homegrown.

Oh, Jesus, you're right.  I was totally assuming that was what was inflating the value.  I had totally forgotten he was developed in Portugal.  I'm now even more shuked.

That would be insane.
One of the dominoes that might drop there would be Giroud to Dortmund.  No doubt that's a pretty steep downgrade for Dortmund, but I actually think he might be better for our Lord and Savior Puligod (and Dembele).  More likely to play the deft stuff to get them through on goal.

:lmao:

"RBs are easy to replace. Spurs rule"

"City screwed themselves by not having any RBs"

The trade in hair would be a huge upgrade alone.

It seems Alves going to PSG created that particular right place/right time boondoggle for Spurs.
