I like what they did in the window minus swapping Lukaku for Rooney.  If they can find goals they may just challenge for that 6th spot....

All joking aside I do think there is a top 7 now and they will all be hard to beat.
Pickford allowed 69 goals last year.  I get it...Sunderland was crap.  But they spent 30 million...that's absurd.

Im not going to pretend to know about Klaasen.  He looks like a skinny Jim Gaffigan and in their first Europa game he didn't seem to stand out physically at all.  I don't see where they are upgrading from Barkley.

Keane is fine.  Ok so they should be a but more solid defensively.  Sandro/Rooney are a shell of what they had last year at striker.

Unless some of these new guys show me something I haven't seen yet Everton definitely moved more towards the 8th place team than the 6th place team.  Just absolute nothing about that roster that is going to strike fear into anyone in the league.

Arsenal win the Emirates Cup on total points despite having 1 win and 1 loss, while Sevilla won both its games including today's 2-1 over Arsenal.
this is actually incredibly timely given the discussion in the other thread on how to reward offense.  For those that don't know the Emeritas Cup rules here they are from wiki

The usual points system which awards 3 for a win, 1 for a draw and 0 for a loss was supplemented by a point being awarded for each goal scored, while shots on target were a decider if teams remained tied

Chelsea close to signing Renato Sanches on loan from Bayern with an option to buy.

Hes an elite talent at 19 and will get a chance to play immediately. Right now the only midfielders with any experience at Chelsea are Kante, Cesc, and Bakayoko.

This new guy on ESPNFC is terrible. He just tried to argue that Neymar has a better shot at the ballon de or with PSG because he has a better chance at champions l age with them. Nicole asked what about if he doesn't even win the French league and the idiot said it wouldn't matter if he won the French league. Then he made a bunch of stupid stances for the show. Skip Bayless is thataway, guy.

oh and Lukaku will fit in easily because she he speaks English.

No clue how true the Matic to United rumors are but if it means the end of Fellaini I'm all for it.
Matic confirmed....  Unfortunately when asked yesterday about the Fellaini to Galatassaray rumors Jose said it would be easier to get Jose then Fro since he is an important player. :censored: :wall:

PLEASE let it be a ploy to get more money from Galatassaray!

This is a fun one...

This century the US and Mexico have played 11 times in WCQs or the World Cup proper.  i.e when there's no doubt both teams are at full strength.

The US is 5-2-4 in those games, with a +6 GD (14-8).

They've laid some beat downs on us in the Gold Cup and other comps...which might be depth related?

Regardless...seems like fairly solid evidence the top of our program is as good as Mexico's.  Or better.  The +6 GD surprised me.

just to double check before someone screams "wrong thread" that is W-L-T right?

important news released in Detroit today

=================

"While both proposals remain options, I've directed my team to dedicate their time and resources toward attempting to reach a contract with Rock Ventures," Evans said in a statement

=================

Evans is the Wayne County commissioner responsible for the jail site.

Rock Ventures is the Dan Gilbert/ Tom Gores company that wants the jailsite to build an MLS stadium (amongst other things ).  Their proposal will build the jail on another site.

This statement by Evans is the strongest indication to date that they are taking the Rock Venture proposal seriously.  If they come to an agreement I think MLS is a lock to make Detroit an expansion city and cover a big hole in the MLS DMA map.

So I hear soccer hasn't made it in America because of NBA like flopping, Pitcher's duel scorelines and tie games. Or is it from lack of commercials and not enough tv time?

Agreed. He and Pogba should be pretty potent Central MF tandem.
with Matic and Herrera supporting Pogba who can then pull the strings for Lukaku, Martial, Mkhi, Rashford, Mata.... should be fun to watch.

Now sell  :fro:  so the fun isnt killed by slow play, poor passes, missing headers, giving away dangerous freekicks and PKs...

I like to look at it differently.  10-15 years ago, 90% of the respondents in a thread like that would have bashed the sport mercilessly.  Now you are down to just a small handful of schtick throwers and the truly clueless.  The vast majority of people seem to get it, whether they like the sport or not.

With Matic and Carrick there is no need to keep Fellaini - not that he was worth keeping previously but now it just seems stupid.  Maybe I'm just trying to convince myself he'll be gone.

I think we are all 100% in favor of this.  I can't think of anyone who likes diving.

The EPL, like MLS are the two leagues who seem least susceptible to this plague and yet both have taken steps to try and fix it.

This problem is worse in other leagues and then when you get to the international level, good lord it is a nightmare.

I don't know if FIFA or any of the CONFED's will ever follow the lead of the EPL and other leagues but god I wish they would

===================

That being said I do not in any way like the wording of the EPL proposal, specifically the word AND.   They should remove the second half of the sentence completely.  Who the hell cares if it had significant consequence, if a guy tries to cheat, punish him.

The authorities will thereby seek to punish incidents that involve clear and overwhelming evidence of simulation, and that had significant consequence on the outcome of a match.

The effects of diving are too complicated to be hampered by "had significant consequence on the outcome of a match." when trying to punish.

For example, lets say a guy dives at midfield, and draws a yellow card on the defender.  But no change on the scoreboard was directly effected.

How are they going to determine the severity consequence of the issue that the defender now has to play differently the rest of the game in fear of a red card?

A dive can effect games far beyond just falsely drawing a PK or free kick that leads directly to a goal.

My dear sir, but then, ALL the fun is truly killed...

I would like to see the actual wording of the rule. From the articles I've seen, i think in this example - a yellow card wrongly given due to simulation - there is no review and the rule is not implicated. As I understand it, they need a unanimous decision to satisfy the "clear and convincing" part, and it has to be a red card or penalty given to satisfy the "significant consequence" part.

I agree the article might be lacking the correct wording but from what they stated I agree with your layout above here.

And that is why I think the rule (as stated in the article) does not have the teeth needed to help deter.

Unless I am mistaken, the amount of cases that diving leads to a [(red card or pk) and the result of which affects the games final result] has to be fairly infrequent.

With regard to this new simulation/diving regulation, Vlade Divak should be involved. Some way, some how. That dude knows stuff  :spade:

See Flop or Not on youtube because I don't know how to copy links on this Mac    :bag:

all changes in soccer come with tectonic like speed so I guess I should not complain too much :)
Andy...(if I may be so curt)...just a general grazie from me, for being the Maginot Line...errr...The Berlin Wall...oh, nm..,just thanks for being one of the primo genitors of the soccer trend here.  I truly appreciate it, gb.  Let the Hate flow through them...

I have no idea what any of this means but your welcome I think :)

Had fun at the Tott-City game.  Tott looked exhausted.  Zero energy. City looked amazing.  My 8-year old now loves KDB and I find myself quite impressed with their team.

I was very impressed with Walker. Physical specimen and you can see the impact he's going to have.  Tottenham didn't have any answers for him and KDB working together.

Add Mendy and Silva to that squad and they are definitely favorites.

:goodposting:

But, it is a start.
