Congrats to The Lansdowne Bhoys of Yonkers NY, who defeated the Milwaukee Bavarians last night in a great final to win the Fritz Marth US Amateur Cup. It was 2-2 after extra time, and the Bhoys won the penalties 9-8. It was an awesome, intense game start to finish. I didn't see Wynalda, but I guess he was there for the final, or at least he tweeted a gif of the final kick - https://twitter.com/EricWynalda/status/894167242811822081
I enjoyed seeing that club play. They have the whole Irish thing going, and I definitely heard a strong brogue from some of the players, sideline and supporters, but the players are racially mixed as well. They played extremely hard and were very hot-headed, probably had 6 or 7 yellows after 120 minutes and were giving the referee hell. They went a man down early in the semi-final on Friday against Wynalda's team but won it 1-0. Hard hard men, shouting at each other the whole game, but some great speed and talent, a joy to watch these guys. One of their centerbacks almost certainly should have gone off just before half - Taylor Twellman's nightmare - woozy and clearly dazed after knocking heads on a cross. Guy comes back out for the second half with the classic white bandage wrapped around his head and was a rock, made his penalty cool. Very well deserved champion.
I was following the CL games somewhat. Its perhaps a concern I suppose that Horvath conceded 5 goals over two games and Brugge were eliminated 5-3 agg by Istanbul Basaksehir (I've never heard of them either), but I've not seen any indication he was particularly at fault for any of the goals.
I have been watching this for years to.
