Sad news as Dom Dwyer and Sydney Leroux said today that they lost the baby she was carrying to be their second child.  The loss happened a while back but this was the first they said of it I think.

The top MLS teams may want to start investing in frequent flier miles programs :)

Conmebol today confirmed they are in talks with Liga MX and MLS to add their teams to the Copa Libertadores starting in 2020.

Those Canada to Argentina flights should be a blast :(

Bournemouth at +116 home against Southampton Saturday. That's gotta be free money, right? Of course, this assumes that those yahoos at Charles Town will actually have these lines up and the games on Saturday morning, something we can't get confirmed yet.

Seriously - I can't imagine how Soton gets any result at Bournemouth.  Bournemouth scores goals for fun, Soton leaks goals for fun.

(Which means: (shaderlogic)  Soton will win the game outright)

Thanks for letting me know that I haven't been banned, Sinn. I was afraid that they might put that new software version in where the banned doesn't actually know that he's been banned.

Hey, as a lark, let's all pretend that none of us see Gator's posts for a while.

"Sinn Fein reacted to one of your posts in the ***Official Soccer Discussion Thread***"

"Reacted?" Did you make like a funny face? This is a little weird.

While I'm "reacting" to the new software, I wanted to make mention of my amusement at English fans chanting at Spanish fans yesterday "Are you Scotland in disguise?" That's a slick double burn. Pretty surprising win, I thought.

Just saw this on twitter, so it must be true:

Harry Kane has been involved in 101 Goals in his last 100 Games for Club & Country.

?

Very cool!

One of the lowest ranked teams in Africa when qualifying began, Madagascar, just qualified for the 2019 African Cup of Nations.

This is the first tournament in history that they have qualified for.

They have climbed in the FIFA world rankings from a low of 190 a few years ago up to a some what respectable 106.

I reacted somehow to this post, was meaning to "Like" it. Hope it came out ok.

Iceland and Poland are the first two teams to be relegated from League A in Nations League play.

Ukraine is the only team so far to secure promotion from League B to League A.

Wet and bumpy field?

I watched a bunch of the Germany v Holland game... Germany dominated a lot of it, but was wasteful. Netherlands also had a bunch fo great chances and put three of them away. it wasn't a oneway rout by any means- but Germany seems to be stuck in the high-line defensively that worked so well in the WC and got opened up repeatedly.
Yes, Germany wasted lots of opportunities in that match.  They did the same today.  They could have easily been up 3-0 at the half against France.
Looking at the results, it seems they aren't taking this seriously, but when you see the effort, they are trying.  Just can't seem to finish.

Orlando City setting all kinds of bad records.

They have now allowed more goals in one season than any MLS team in history.  They have also completed the worst 20 game stretch in MLS history.

Wayne Rooney from a mile.

Not sure if he has more in the tank than I thought, or the standard of defending in MLS is worse than I thought.  Either way, I was wrong about what he'd do for the team.  He's almost single-handedly (with the help of a new stadium and a ton of late home matches) turned the season around and dragged them into the playoffs.

ETA:  that's from 36 yards.

He’s been great, but his arrival also coincided with Canouse returning from injury. And he’s been every bit as important IMO. I’m convinced that Canouse, Adams, and McKennie would be  the best midfield 3 for the national team right now.

As the league continues to grow, the vast majority of the budget resources are going to offensive players, specifically the South American's across the league.

This has caused one of the widest quality gaps in league history between the offenses and defenses (which is one of the big reasons MLS is one of the highest scoring leagues in the world now). The difference in goals per game for MLS has taken a large jump this decade.

As a goal whore, I love it but it certainly can make some players seem better than they really are.

In any case, almost everyone was wrong about Rooney, and good for him for taking the whole thing seriously.  We have seen what happens when players like Gerrard either don't care and/or really are past it.
