Great win over Atalanta. Forza Roma!  Love, love, love the Tammy Abraham signing.

Helps Napoli more then Milan but does Help Milan too. Tomorrows match should be interesting between these 2 teams so injury ridden. It might be the survival of the fittest club wise

I can not make out Baloney players on the far sideline in this foggy match with Juvie.

Never heard of such a club. They must taste really good. I've heard of bologna fc.

Thats also the Italian Winter in Northern Italy. Been a few Milan Derby's in dense fog over the years.

Spurs are officially out of the Europa Conference League now, which is the right result.

Ideally this gives Spurs an opportunity to concentrate on the leaguetm, but, its Spurs, and they will find a way to bottle it.

Saw the Liverpool v Spurs highlights.

Robertson- clear red.

Kane- clear red.

Joto- clear PK

Delle- not so clear PK (light hand to the back, so I think no...but could go either way)

Spurs should have scored a couple more though...some great saves and slightly miss-hit final balls that these guys normally bury.

Also missed Salah hand ball in lead up to goal, Matip bundling over Winks in the box.

Both decisions favored Liverpool.

I think the announcers were correct that the Salah handball would have meant a disallowed goal last season, almost certainly, but its a much more difficult call now.  It seemed unintentional contact, but he leaned into it.  Overall, I thought the officiating was pretty good for a game like this one, which is very difficult to call.  I think Klopp's schtick is finally getting to people. Surprised its taken this long.

fwiw3- I saw der klopper say that the ref told him that he thought Joto stopped short to intentionally draw the foul, so didn't award it to him. the ref also claims that klopp was visualizing nasty things about the refs mom, so gave him a yellow.

because it wasn't a foul?

fwiw.. are you claiming- like Kane, who swears on his daughter's life- that he got ball?

fwiw2- I have no bone in this game- complete neutral.
no. I think Kane’s was a foul, and if VAR had told Tierney to have a look on the monitor, it probably would have been red - due to the slo-mo.

But, I think Kane made a play on the ball, unlike Robbo in yesterday’s game. And I think that Robbo being in the air minimized the risk - making it not look as bad in real time as if he had been anchored to the ground. And, it’s Kane. Certain players will always get the benefit of the doubt (see, Salah, Mo)

Ref was asked to look at Robbo’s foul because it was a wild ### kick with no attempt to get the ball

FIFA is expected to vote in March to hold the WC every 2 years.

I can't believe they took the near perfect format of 32 teams every 4 years and are going to create a 48 (or more) team tournament every 2 years if the vote succeeds.

Qualifying is one of the best parts of the WC cycle.   So much qualifying in the future is going to be reduced to knock out style games as that will be the only way to par the teams down fast enough for a 2 year cycle.

Every small country is likely to vote for this as it is being sold in terms of money money money.

Here is a lot more detail.  Infantino won't commit to a vote just yet in March according to this article.

Glad Infantino thinks this is a bad idea. From time to time he still makes us Italians proud.
umm...Infantino is the driving force behind it.  He is doing everything possible to buy the votes of the vast majority of the smaller countries who need the money to give him the majority votes..

How did I miss this?  This is fabulous news!

Breaking: The time has finally come for CBS to put men’s Champions League knockout games on the big network. Six round of 16 games will be there, with one-hour pregame shows for each broadcast.

Every team in the Bundesliga has played 17 games.

The team in 3rd is 14 points off the lead

The team in 3rd is 12 points clear of the relegation zone

these rarely end well

Italian Financial Police executes search at the Inter headquarters. Investigation into false statements made by Inter related to capital gains between 2017-2019

As a fan of F1 and Soccer, I came across this headline at World Soccer Talk: F1’s boom in the US and its lessons for soccer leagues

I thought, that should be interesting.  🤔

After slogging through the article - the conclusion:

"There’s only so much that other leagues can learn from F1’s boom. Ultimately, an F1 Grand Prix is more like a golf or tennis Grand Slam or a WWE pay-per-view than a soccer match."

So basically, there was nothing there, but they decided it was worth an article to point out there was noting there.  Thanks.

So effectively this is UEFA and COMNEBOL vs AFC and CAF.

I do think the fact that you need 5-10 countries (US, Mexico, England, Italy, Germany, Spain, France, Japan, China and then maybe Russia) willing to host 48 clubs (that's a lot of teams to host logistically) every 2 years gets glossed over.   There's a handful of countries willing and wanting to do that.

If this came to fruition you'd see a LOT more co-hosting bids a la Japan/South Korea in '02.

Actually, would it? I'm not sure there's too many places that currently have enough high capacity stadia which are geographically close to each other, or that have some government that'd chuck billions in to do so (as you can guarantee that clubs wouldn't stump up the money unless it made financial sense for them regardless). I mean take a relatively rich combination of countries with established leagues like, say, Belgium and the Netherlands. They could play at de Kuip, the Cruijff Arena and, er, PSV or Anderlecht maybe?

Absolutely stupid idea, which is why FIFA will probably do it

Financially and exposure wise, this would be a huge boon to the US.  The US and England are the only two countries that are currently setup with enough high capacity stadiums to hold 48 teams WCs efficiently.  If this 2 year deal goes through, I'd fully expect the US to host at least every decade, which would be huge for the financial growth of the game in the US.

It would suck to watch as a current fan though.

It's only gonna be on CBS sports network nothing on actual CBS

What a surprise said no one ever. A lot of people were thinking Inters stuff was fishy and considering the current issues with management not surprised owners wise

In other words another attention grabbing clickbait header just to tell everyone we don't know what the hell we are talking about but hey, thanks for visiting our website

Looks like it will be Kieren McKenna. Do any of the ManU contingent here (or others more knowledgeable than me which is everyone) have any thoughts on this hire?
Who? Oh that one non former United player that Jose promoted to be his assistant coach and was kept on by Ole?

No idea if he is good or bad.

If any of you watch baseball and follow Jomboy, you'll already know how great he is. But here's a breakdown of an incident between Duke and UCLA soccer

:lmao:
I hate everything about this.  Partly as someone who played in UCLA's conference, losing 4-1, 4-0, 6-0 and winning 4-3, F UCLA. I also hate Duke because they are Duke.

And F the ref for showing only 1 red and not booking half of both teams.  Esp Duke and #7 for the flopping.

And as someone who's been in all out college soccer brawls, including suspended players coming out of the stands to join the fight, I hate both teams for how weak that was by both teams.

Union take Inter Miami ST Julian Carranza on Loan. I know it's not the DP Striker everyone wanted or big name but he's low risk young and I think the club is banking on the fact they can develop him better then Inter Mia. If he works out they buy him and he does well we can definitely sell him for  some big bucks. Spent a 2nd rounder (Union don't use draft picks anyway) on him.

Was glad to be able to get to a match at the San Siro (0-0 obv) back in 2018, but the stadium is somewhat showing its age
Agreed. I went to a match in fall 2019 and the stadium was less impressive than I thought it would be.  The seats were very tight with little leg room.  I thought the Bernabeu was a better stadium :puke:.

I saw a few Inter games when I briefly lived there in the late 80s during one of both Inter and Milan's magical seasons. Loved it. Got to walk on the pitch after watching the last game of the season.

Toronto FC and Lorenzo Insigne have agreed to terms, per sources. He'll join TFC this summer
Salary is said to be $13m per year plus additional performance bonus's according to Fabrizio Romano.  This would be by far the largest contract ever for an MLS player.

The current highest paid player is Vela at $6.3m

when the legit Italians first started coming to MLS from Serie A, I wondered why- and then was shocked at how little they make comparatively. Insigne is still a massive star- of course, pushing towards the end of his playing days as a 30yo.

Huge signing for TFC and the league. Hopefully TFC has the guns to support him; they looked awful last year. I wonder what this does for Jozy, who I assumed was out the door.

Any way we can get a massive Covid outbreak in Newcastle that lasts until the January transfer window? Maybe airlift ManU over the training facility and parachute them in?
I just want to say that the above quote was a joke, ManU showed up yesterday under their own volition, and I have an attorney on retainer.

@ChrisDHWaugh

Confirmed that #EFC vs #NUFC on Thursday night has been postponed.

It was at Newcastle's request, due to a significant number of injuries & COVID-19 cases.
