Welp,  looks like I will be coaching my daughter's U14 girls AYSO team this fall.  Just got the notification and roster.  Still working through the mandatory certifications (mostly online).  Almost done but still need to do the field day to get the first coaching certification.  I was a licensed coach 30 years ago (coached HS and club while in college), it was the lowest level cert but I don't remember it being this time consuming to get.

How has a team as typically solid as Portland gone so long with out a hat trick??

Paul Carr

@PaulCarr

Brenner gets FC Cincinnati's first MLS hat trick!

That leaves three current MLS franchises without an MLS hat trick: Charlotte (1st season) Austin (2nd) Portland (12th!)

Serie A announced that if the top two teams in the league are level on points at end of the season, that they will not use tie breakers to decide the champion.  A one game playoff will be used instead.

How epic would a playoff game have been to decide the 2014 EPL.  And a  Derby no less

🚨 Barcelona have agreed a deal with global investment firm Sixth Street Partners to sell 10% of their La Liga TV rights for the next 25 years.

Not sure what you mean. Newcastle have brought in Targett, Pope, and Botman so far.
Not sure what odds would be quoted, but I suspect they'd be good enough to tempt me into a wager that NUFC > MUFC at the end of the season.  3:1 would do it for sure.  Maybe 2:1.

🚨 Cristiano Ronaldo has told Man Utd he wants to leave this summer, as @DuncanCastles reports. 37yo said to love club but wants to play CL + fight for top honours in final stage of career - doesn’t feel likely at #MUFC. Napoli among suitors @TheAthleticUK

So I knew this favored Messi, but was still surprised by just how much it favors Messi...

  • Messi:  games 974, non-PK goals 666 (.68/game), assists 368 (.38/g), 1037 G+A (1.06/g)
  • Ronaldo:  games 1121, non-PK goals 671 (.60/game), assists 272 (.25/g), 943 G+A (.84/g)

Curious if any of you folks that watch Serie A more than me have any opinions on Frank Kessie, whom Barcelona signed on a free transfer. He looks listed as more of a CDM so curious if he is designed to be a Sergio Busquets replacement.

A Premier League player was arrested on rape allegations again. Arrested in North London (from the Telegraph):

The player is in his late 20s and is currently in custody being quizzed over an alleged attack which is said to have taken place last month.

The club has been contacted by Telegraph Sport and is aware the player is being questioned, but it declined to comment.

On 4 July, an allegation of rape of a woman in her 20s was reported to police," the Met Police said in a statement. "It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022."

Police said the man was arrested "at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains".

The player is internationally renowned and it is unclear whether he will now play in his club's pre-season fixture schedule. The Premier League season begins on August 5 and the player is also due to play at the World Cup in Qatar this November.

it's not CP thankfully. but how old is Tim Ream? (I kid).

'It was reported the alleged rape happened in June 2022.

'On 4 July, a 29-year-old man was arrested at an address in Barnet on suspicion of rape and taken into custody where he remains.

'Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.'

This is a really good signing by Toronto.  This is a 28 year old who was a regular for Juventus last year and has almost 40 caps for the Italian National team

Done deal, here we go. Inter Miami are set to sign Alejandro Pozuelo on permanent deal as Designated Player from Toronto FC, paperworks being prepared #InterMiamiCF

Michael Singh

@MichaelSingh94

Toronto FC are trading Alejandro Pozuelo to Inter Miami, can confirm. This means that Toronto FC will be signing Federico Bernardeschi from Juventus on a free transfer, I'm told.

Schalke 04 are set to sign Japanese centre back Maya Yoshida on a free transfer. Been told he’s gonna fly to Germany tomorrow to undergo medical test.

Schalke going to continue their Japanese era - Yoshida turned down many offers, including Trabzonspor.

and a well sourced reply to this tweet :)

This guy is incredible… even my wife didn’t know about Trabzonspor

I say let him go.  Recoup the money you spent and go back to the rebuild that is so badly needed.  Love CR7 but its ok if he leaves.

100% - I don't even care if he leaves for Chelsea.  I have zero problem with him wanting to play in the CL and have a more realistic chance at a trophy this upcoming year.  Think he deserves it.

Plus if he does at Chelsea what he's done for United and Juventus, it is nothing but good for United.  :D

The Raheem Sterling to Chelsea rumors are pretty strong and coming from good sources now. Seems like a done deal. Not a huge fan of this myself, but I'm historically bad at making predictions on this kind of thing (although I was right on Lukaku.)  CFC still need to bring in a couple strong centerbacks - at least two PL starter quality guys. Lots of noise about de Ligt and Ake.

Apropos of nothing, my 17 year-old is in Kazakhstan for the summer, and he and his host family went to a Kazakh Premier League match last weekend.  Not exactly a packed house, but he did send me a clip of someone teaching him FC Kairat chants in Russian, so there's that.. Please pass on any silly season rumors for the KPL so he can appear in the know...

From what I read it is two different MLS teams he will be talking to but no specific rumors as to whom.

He is also talking with I think 3 EPL teams as well.  He should be flush with choices when the time comes.

It looks like one of the teams might be LAFC.   A front line of Lingard, Bale and Vela would be pretty fun to watch.

I've always liked Ake, and de ligt is de-lovely. that would be a decent back two, with my chels MVP rutabega gone.

and I've been a big fan of Sterling's since his original Liverpool days. he reminds me of CP, except he scores (more).

totally. they scored a ton of goals without him... screw the guy.

A couple interesting new rules implemented in MLS NEXT Pro.

This is really an anti-time wasting rule:

Under the Off-field Treatment Rule:

1.  If a player is suspected to have an injury and is on the ground for longer than 15 seconds, a medical crew will come onto the field to evaluate the player and assist him off the field

2.  Once the player is off the field, the player will be treated by the medical staff and will be required to remain off the field for three minutes
This one is downright radical, but smart:

Under the new Red Card Suspension Rule: If a player receives a red card, that player will serve the resulting one-game suspension against the same team that he received the red card. The rule applies in the case of a red card or a second yellow card.

I like anything that attacks time wasting so the first one is fine.  Neymar would still be in mid roll at the 15 second mark :)

But I don't understand the red card rule....?  what happens if you don't play that team again until the following season?  What happens if player then gets brought up to the main squad or is traded?  Seems like many ways he could get out of not having to serve suspension.

You had my exact thoughts on the second rule.  However, it is only one game.  Is it really worth selling Xhaka because he can't play the first game against one PL side?  (Probably a bad example, as everyone hates Xhaka, but you see what I mean.)

The announcement is just a summary.  The details on both rules are addressed in the fine print.  For example, on the time-wasting rule, GK's are exempt, as are head injuries and several other specific situations. For the red card rule, there are a number of supplemental rules -

Other Considerations:

Regular Season: All suspensions must be served during the same regular season, except in the event a red card occurs on the final game of the regular season. For example, if Team A does not play Team B again the remainder of the season, Team A’s player who received the red card would serve his 1 game suspension in the next regular season game.

Final Regular Season Game: If a player receives a red card in his team’s last regular season game, then the 1 game suspension would be served in the playoffs (if applicable) or the first game of the next regular season.

Player Trade: The rule applies in the event of a player trade. For example, if Player X from Team A receives a red card against Team B, and then is traded to Team C, he would serve his 1 game suspension when his new team (Team C) plays Team B; if his new team does not play Team B, then he would be suspended for the first game with his new team.

Failure to Serve Suspension: If a player does not serve his suspension because he is no longer eligible (e.g., retires, season ending injury, released, transferred, etc.), the player will be required to serve his suspension in the event he returns to MLS NEXT Pro. If the player signs in a new league, such suspension may also carry over to the other league (e.g., if the player is transferred to Manchester United, then he may be ineligible to participate in his first English Premier League game).

Supplemental Discipline: If a player is issued supplemental discipline (i.e., additional games), such supplemental discipline will be served in games immediately following the game to which the player received the red card, and then the 1 game suspension from the red card would be served the next time his club plays the original opponent.

Non-Player Related Ejection: The rule also applies to non-player related red cards (e.g., red card resulting from a confrontation with the opposing team’s technical staff or a confrontation with a referee).

Ineligible Players: The rule does not apply to (1) players on loan from a club’s first division affiliate and (2) amateur players. Such category of players would be ineligible to play in the next MLS NEXT Pro league season game (status quo).
