*** Official Super Bowl LI Thread - Falcons vs Patriots *** (2 Viewers)

OK . . . I guess. The NE/STL SB saw the better defense and lower scoring team win and the high octane offensive juggernaut only score 17. Yet you picked the high scoring team to score 42 points and the stronger defense to implode. Please explain how your prediction bears any semblance to the STL/NE game.
No one really had NE winning that game and I feel the same way about this game. I thinks it's the Falcons year.

NE has faced offensively challenged dogs for most, if not the entire season.  ATLs bringing a Lear Jet while they're used to facing Bi-Planes.

I think ATL's D is young.....but Quinn knows that, and he himself has playoff experience.  I think they surprise people early in the game with their athletisim.

Vegas is looking for a shootout.....but I don't think NE can win in a shootout...so  I think NE tries to go ball control. If  they have success with that, they'll win.

If they don't.....I think ATL jumps on them early, puts NE on their heels, NE makes adjustments and the 4th quarter is relevant.

Falcons 38 Patriots 21

Ref's try there best to keep Patriots in the game but in the end Falcons are to much for them!

I still find it perplexing so many people are buying into the narrative that New England didn't face anyone good and no offense like the Falcons will translate to ATL will be going up and down the field all game long and scoring at will.

I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest that in 40 years of coaching, BB has faced a teams that could score before. And the Patriots defense has faced good QB in recent seasons (maybe not many this year).

I think scoring at will is a stretch....but who did NE face this year of any substance?

You are not wrong in that the Patriots did not face many great offenses THIS YEAR. Top 10 offenses they faced were PIT x 2, BUF x 2, and ARI. That does not mean the Patriots will forget how to play defense and BB, the greatest coach of his generation and arguably the greatest coach of all time, will forget how to coach. There is still a big difference between the Patriots defense and the Falcons defense.

I also don't see a huge difference between the two offenses. The Falcons averaged 34 ppg and NE with Brady averaged 31. Playing in domes historically boosts offensive scoring by 3 points, so pretty much the two offenses ostensibly are just about even. Like the Steelers, Atlanta may have the bigger names and the faster players, but the bottom line is there is not that much difference between the two offenses. Brady has led four teams to 500+ points in a season himself, so it is not like the Falcons offense is facing the Rams offense.

The only reason I would say the Falcons have a slight edge offensively is they have their superstar receiver while the Patriots do not. As I said in some other threads, the Patriots won't miss Gronk until they will miss Gronk and absolutely need him. It remains to be seen if that situation arises tonight.

I don't think anyone is saying that. They are just pointing out the fact that NE hasn't faced anyone who is BOTH good and healthy (offensively) since probably BAL 7 weeks ago. Your problem is you bury yourself too deep in your numbers to see what is actually happening on the field. If you can manage that, it's really not all that perplexing.

My eyes saw what actually happened on the field . . . the Patriots wining 9 games in a row by an average of 17 ppg, with the last 3 games against play off teams and still winning by almost 20 ppg.

Not a fan of either team, but my expectations are sky high that this will be a great game. I think ATL proves themselves capable of handling the bright lights and wins a close one.

Before it all gets started, good luck Falcons fans!  Class team that I hope continues to have success down the road (one of my top 2 favorite NFC teams).  If the Pats weren't in the superbowl, I'd be cheering for them undoubtedly.

So we're at the point now when everyone has convinced themselves that Atlanta has a shot and will be able to make this a game?  Enjoy it now, because about 30-60 minutes from now we'll all be shaking our heads wondering how anyone imagined the Patriots would have trouble here...

I hope it's not like last year where the Panthers #### the bed.  I have no horse in this race.  I just want a good game.

Can't BB afford to pay some tailor to cut and hem his sleeves instead of looking like he's doing a brake job on his 1996 Sunfire?

Is this where we write our official prediction?

ATL (+3) straight up win and the under (58.5 earlier in the week' I heard 56.5 nearer kickoff). ATL 26-24
