***Official Super Bowl LII Thread*** - Eagles vs Patriots (2 Viewers)

Yes, intangibles play into New England’s favor, but can they continue to count on their opponents blatant stupidity? Just think how different a conversation Belichick’s and Brady’s legacy would be if their last two SB opponents coaches had simply made competent decisions when the games were on the line. If Seattle simply runs on the one yard line or if Atlanta doesn’t continue to throw when simply running down the clock + kicking a field goal gives them a SB victory. Can they continue to count on miracles the likes of which haven’t been seen since the Old Testament?
This is why coaches have to go with the old school conservative play-calls instead of the percentage play.  Because people look after the fact and the outcome was the only possible outcome.

Running the ball from the 1 isn't a guaranteed touchdown, passing from the 1 isn't a guaranteed interception.  I'm betting that if Seattle had run the ball and fumbled or gotten stuffed you'd be here saying they should have passed the ball.

On Atlanta.  I'm not sure personally what was a smarter percentage play but I'm also not a football coach.  I do know that Belichick generally doesn't take his foot off the gas and run run run in the 2nd half when his team has a lead either.  Most of the better coaches don't.  If Atlanta had spent the 2nd half run, run, run for 3 and outs over and over you'd probably be saying they should have stuck with what got them there.

It's all about execution.  New England out executed Seattle and Atlanta down the stretch.  Just like the Giants did against New England in 2007 and 2011.

Let me continue;

Rocky Marciano >>>>> Rocky Balboa

Thanksgiving >>>>>> 4th of July

Larry Bird >>>>>>> Dr. J
i see our neighbors to the north need some help, let me oblige:

fine you can have: Rocky Marciano >>>>> Rocky Balboa.  Now let's actually look at boxers from Philly. Bernard Hopkins, Joe Frazier, etc., etc. are better then anything out of Boston. Hell, boxing even has named a move after the city, with the "Philly shell". If i had to guess we would have the "Boston run and hide"  :D

Larry Bird was ok, Dr. J and Wilt were both better. We can even go deeper with home grown talent, we have Lowry, Sheed Wallace, tons and tons of dudes.

Man, this is just a futile exercise for our brethren from the North. we could do this all weekend

Let me continue;

Rocky Marciano >>>>> Rocky Balboa

Larry Bird >>>>>>> Dr. J
Wilt Chamberlain>>>>>>>>>>>>>Larry Bird

Rocky Balboa as you know is fictional so...

Joe Frazier>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Rocky Marciano (did this guy ever fight stiff competition? He'd have got his ### whipped by the top 5 heavy weights of the '60s and '70s.

4 seasons in Philly>>>>>>>>>>>>>>2 seasons in Boston: winter and construction

I'll concede the Holliday  :P

ETA: just saw Modogg's post LOL! Ah it's all in fun lads.

I heard a stat today that I think sums up what is so scary about New England: Since 2001 (i.e. with Brady and Belicheck) the Patriots are 15-0 in the playoffs against teams they didn't play in the regular season. That stat shows that Brady and Belicheck are good at attacking defenses and offenses in ways that the opposition hasn't had to face before and therefore the opposition isn't ready for it. I do think that Pederson is a very good coach, so we will see what he comes up with, and how well he is able to adjust his gameplan.
Doug Pederson 2-0 vs. Teams he didn't face in regular season.  Somebody's 0 must go.

I’ll go with Boston’s top 3 boxers (Marciano, Hagler, John L Sullivan) over any best 3 that Philly can put up.

And let’s keep this train rolling:

Harvard >>> Penn

Ralph Waldo Emerson >>> Walt Whitman

 And the final blow:

Bill Burr >>> Bill Cosby

I’ll just leave this NSFW link here:  https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=rNnkDjMVJqE

alright you guys can have the bridges. we were feeling bad for you guys anyway, so you have bridges. As for comedians, c'mon. Kevin Hart >>>>>>>>> Burr in a landslide. Hart actually has a career.

the funny one, and i have no idea why, but i actually was hit with a "serious" bug thinking about Harvard and Penn. I think it was too tricky to asses. It was funny i was actually thinking about it like a real debate, but if we want a country of lawyers Harvard wins. If we want a country of business man Penn stomps the yard!!!!

yeah, i'll need other to chip in with the 2nd one. Might be better to be:

Mummers >>>>>>> Boston Pops.

and i'll give you Dana White over Bonaduce, your only problem is White fled Boston as soon as he could

Posted this in the Eagles thread but applies here as well.

I believe that one aspect that isn’t discussed is the need for teams to emotionally pace themselves vs the Pats in these big games. It seems like ATL last year and Jax were two examples of teams that came out at an overly intense level but by the end of the game they had nothing left to give. It’s as if BB has mastered this aspect of game planning, having his team play with controlled emotion early but then have what they need to tap into when the game is on the line.

Yes, both teams offense was gassed from having the ball the entire first 3 quarters.  They just didn't quite have enough of a lead.

Philly better put up 35 on the Pats before they run out of gas.

Now you know its on -

Rocky Statue Bet

Philadelphia is accepting bets from what is essentially the arm pit of Massachusetts although the Lowell area & Springfield may be able to make a case.   I would bet that most people from Brockton can't even tell you where the Marciano statue is located.

I'm not sure Thanksgiving is over the 4th....give me beer, blowing stuff up and American Flag bikinis over turkey and those buckled shoes the Pilgrims wore.

Yeah.

If Philly loses.....I hope they at least lose while "damning the torpedos/full speed ahead" on offense rather than trying to wish the clock away with a 7 -10 point lead with 12:30 left on the clock in the 4th. They don't need to go 3 and out in 50 seconds......but they'll have to continually put that NE D on their heels.

I think Romo said it best in the JAX/NE game (paraphrasing) "Jax can't sit back and in fact should be running their 3rd down plays on 1st and 2nd down just to get NE thinking. Running on first and second isn't going to win the game for them".

We both know they won't score past 19.  They'll need 8 quarters to get to 35.

great. So right now Boston is better with bridges and has more championships.

Philadelphia literally is better in/with everything else. Looks like we have to help them out again, so i will give Boston/NE another one:

Boston sports radio >>>>>>>>>>> Philly sports radio - i have never heard anything from Boston sports radio, but i can't fathom a worse sports radio product than the local sports radio here in Philly

If the opposite had happened (Vikings beat Eagles, and SB was in Philly), I'm sure that every Viking would be welcomed into every Philly restaurant...but then the Philly kitchen staff would secretly spit in the food of any Vikings player.   :D

Boston has better restaurants

Boston has smarter people

Boston has hotter and sluttier women

Bruins better than Flyers

Red Sox better than Phillies

Celtics better than Sixers

Patriots better than Eagles

Philly has Boston beat when it comes to Asian massage parlors and obnoxious Italians. Amazingly, Philly beats Boston when it comes to being a racist city.

If you want to remark about the Phillies being the last team in baseball to integrate than fine. But your last statement crosses the line. You don't live here. You don't know what the #### you're talking about about.

Nah - the best cheesesteak Philly has to offer would totally be available. No revelations needed, and the spit is just extra seasoning. “Wit”, as they say.  ;)

This is ridiculous.

The Pats are a truly mediocre defense with no semblance of pass rush and a fairly mediocre secondary.

They held down Blake Bortles...in the 2nd half...when the Jags tried to slow down and hold a lead - not exactly a Herculean feat.

I’m thinking NEP needs to score 28 to stay in this game. And that’s no easy task given the effectiveness of the eagles defense.

Philly can get pressure with 3. Brady will be sacked - multiple times.

On the other side, if NE can’t get to Foles, they’re gonna pick NE apart with the short & intermediate passing game.

I’d also bet on at least 1 deep shot to Jeffery or Smith.

First time I remember feeling like the Pats are overmatched headed into the SB.

and I’m no eagles homer - just observant.

No city, with possible exception of Harrison, Arkansas beats Boston for racist cities.

It doesn't help. It's a ####ty statement and patently false.
What is patently false? There is a ton more Asian massage parlors in Philly than Boston. It is an indisputable fact. In terms of Philly being a more racist city, that is definitely an opinion. One giving by someone who has lived in both cities. You can disagree and think otherwise but to say it is patently false makes no sense.

Shame we went from a fun, light hearted, "back and forth" ... to calling people racist.

Sometimes it's ok to keep your negative opinions of others to yourself.

... should go without saying, but this poster does not speak for all NE fans.(pretty sure he dissed BOS as well starting with "amazingly")

NE's offense and Brady has had a great deal of success against Schwartz D's in the past.

They are well aware of the concepts.

I will give you that the talent Schwartz has is better, but still, Brady has ripped this guys D before.

The one that really stands out is:

Pretentious aholes. Boston has ten times more than Philly.

Your last sentence backs that up.

In the more obscure Super Bowl trivia tidbits category, the last PHI NE match up was the only SB with a tie score after three quarters.

:goodposting: ahh thanks. i was loading up the links from all Boston sports of the racist actions, from banana peels to tons of tweets, etc., etc., but real glad you posted this.

Back to the more light-hearted poking (running out of ideas):

whatever business in Boston >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Comcast  -  Comcast is good for jobs and bringing money to the city. that might be it

Philly pizza >>>>>>>>>> Boston pizza

ok, this thing may have run it's course for me :kicksrock: . glad game week is here
