Interestingly, the Patriots attempted 53 passes, while running the ball only 16 times. Other coaches get crucified following losses when their pass-to-run ratio is that lopsided. Will Belichick?

Great great game tonight. I still can't believe it. I had resigned myself to rooting for the Giants and was just hoping they wouldn't get stomped.

Not the best SB ever, but up there with some great upsets like the Broncos win in 98 over the defending champs Green Bay, and even the first Patriots win over what seemed to be at that time the unstoppable Rams.

I have never rooted so hard for a team I had no emotional interest in in my life. I made a little money on the game (Giants + 12 1/2 and the money line) but it wasn't about the money. As much as I respected the Patriots talent, I wanted to see them lose. More than anything. I wanted to see them get close and then have the perfect season snatched away. I respect their accomplishments, but I dunno, it seems everything started coming out. All the 4th and 3's where instead of saying it was "the percentage play" to go for it when they were up 40 against the Redskins they now punt. The arrogance of the team and, yes, the fans, were unprecedented in history. And it all came crashing down. So beautiful.

The ESPN post game show with Stu Scott, Emmitt, Salisbury, and Keyshawn is just brutal. Who the hell looked at that lineup and said "yep, this'll work"?

My $.02 on the whole Patriots-fans-class thing:

For the most part, I think most of the "unclassy" fans where the fairweather tools that quit frequenting the site after their fantasy season was over.

Aside from a few, I have no complaints over the past few weeks.

Kudo's to the Giants; they played a great game.

And the Pats players were 100% classy (at least, all that I saw) in their postgame interviews and paid their respects to the Giants.

I'm happy with the outcome, but I did feel a twinge of sorry for Tom Brady himself. Sort of reminded me of when Jerry Rice blew out his knee years ago. He just sat there, as if in disbelief. I bet Tom truly believed he'd pull this game out, even on the last throw.

I bailed on this thread in the 2nd quarter, to keep with a ritual I've done through the first 3 playoff games. Been watching one half at home, second half at my buddy's place, so I had to keep with that tradition, but one scenario came up that I don't know if was mentioned, haven't read back through this one yet.

We were talking on the Pats 2nd to last drive(TD drive) about Brady laughing at the Giants holding them to 17 when they had scored 7 with 3 minutes left. I was worried about Moss and the jump ball pass in the end zone, knowing none of the Giants corners could compete with that, and I wondered if the Jints might just throw Plax in for one play on that 3rd down to neutrualize the leap. My buddy reminded that the second part of Brady's laugh was about Plax playing defense.

Wouldn't THAT have been something if the game came down to that!

Please pardon the drunken posts of victory!

Heartbroken... that's all I can say right now. Just heartbroken. If the Patriots kick that field goal instead of going on 4th and 13, there's no doubt in my mind that they win.If the Patriots don't wait until the 4th quarter to open up the offense with 4 or 5 receivers with quick short yardage strikes, they win.If Belichick throws the challenge flag on the recovered fumble in the first half, they win.If Asante Samuel holds onto the damn ball, they win.If Brandon Meriweather holds onto the damn ball, they win.If Rodney Harrison holds onto the damn ball, they win.The Giants played a hell of a game, and they clearly put themselves in position to win. But as dominating as they were on the line tonight, and as miserable as they made Brady, I can't help but think that the Pats choked this one way on both sides of the ball. Eli tried to hand this game to the Patriots on four different occasions in the final drive, and the Pats refused to take it.Ugh.
Sorry, but the Giants simply outplayed the Patriots tonight.
 They stuck to throwing a RB to pass protect once in a while as they did all year long. The D line of the Giants put pressure on Brady and Brady has a long history of struggling when you get him on the ground a few times (as most QB's tend to). It worked all season long but not tonight. They hoped the screens would slow the rush and that was the only thing they did to try to keep the Giant D from domination. They should have ran a bit more and kept more guys in on pass protection.. it would not take too long for Welker or Moss to get open even if they are both doubled. The Giant D line over matched an under rated Pat O line. The Giants very well could have had at least 9 more points on the board if not for a list of shoulda, coulda, woulda's like you listed. The Giants BEAT the Pat's.

Belicheck didn't bother me all that much prior to tonight. Even the whole Spygate thing, as I feel many teams film, but

just don't get caught.

But after tonight.. knowing full well that there is 1 second left in the game. The play MUST be run. And Belicheck is running

off the field, as is most of his team... Un.. be... lieveable..

He should get one helluva fine for that..
He was making up for those missing 4 seconds the Rams didn't get in that Bowl. Who wants to kick to Hakim and Holt?

It's nice of ex-Giant TE Jeremy Shockey to make the trip to take in the game.
Agreed. Why wasn't Shockey on the sidelines?J
he's probably in Miami
No. He was in a luxury box.J
Joe, the Post had an article on him early this week, apparently his leg is fairly FUBAR'ed, and his doctors didn't want him to travel, never mind be on the sideline where he wouldn't be mobile enough to move in the event of an injury. Apparently Kiwanuka had pretty much the same injury in October and only very recently resumed walking and had clearance to be on the sidelines.

I"ve bashed Shock quite a bit, and certainly the appearance of him with drinks in front of him while his teammates are playing wasn't necessarily the best image, but I can't take him too much to task for not being on the sidelines based on reports that I've heard.

Players on IR can't be on the sidelines apparently by league rule.

Just noticed the Pats only had 10 men on the field for the final kneel-down. Possibly the only SB in history with a 12-men on the field penalty and also a play run with only 10.

This is true. I am a die hard NE fan, but NE didn't choke the game away. The Giants simply took the game and won it.

 The better team won. PERIOD.

Great win Giant fans for you and your favorite team. You are the World Champs. Soak it up and love every minute of it.

Congrats Giants fans.

I'm happy for Coughlin and Strahan.

My two observations were:

1. Brady did not perform well under creative pressure.

2. This was an incredible football game; an epic battle.

First post in the thread; didn't read anything else;

What a great game to watch.

Giants outplayed the Pats and were the better team yesterday.

I was rooting for the Giants as much as anyone; but I really have to commend the Pats players for being classy in defeat. I haven't heard any of them say anything other than they got outplayed, or the other team made more plays, or whatever. Props to them :scared:

Absolutley not. Same way he won't get crucified for forgoing the FG on 4th and 13.He faces a different level of scrutiny from the media. Why? Because he's earned it by being without question the best coach in the league for the last several years. That's how it works.J

Nevertheless, he made the wrong choice in not going for the field goal, and that's not hindsight - I said it right before they went for it as did everyone else I was with. I don't know if it was arrogance, but it was apparent from the get go that this was going to be a tight defensive game, and BB of all people should know that points are at a premium in games like that.

Agree for sure. Terrible decision.I was just answering the guys questiona about whether he'd get killed over it. When you've got a track record of being way better than everyone else, you get some slack. But it was a terrible decision. If Coughlin had done it and the Giants had lost, they'd be yelling to fire him today.J

That was amazing game by the giants and a great run to win it all. The 86 team has always been my favorite Giants team but I think that changed last night. The way that defense played was classic Giants football.

Just amazing to watch that D line gut arguably the three best offensive lines in three straight games (Dallas, Pack and Patriots). Simply Awesome

Welker was an absolute stud throughout the season and the game. I won't forget.Having said that, how about some love for Amani Toomer and the tough catches he made to keep some of those earlier drives alive?

You're pretty unbearable in this thread. You're not even a fan of the team. Let it go.
Oh, but you're wrong. Until September I'm a HUGE Giants fan.Nothing against the fans of NE. I just really can't stand Bill Belechick.

And watching Rodney Harrison chasing behind Boss on that huge play was pretty enjoyable as well.

What a joke. This coming from a fan of a team that ran up the score against every chump team they could and who has a convicted cheater coach. Spare us your lessons about class.edit to add: also a coach who left the field early in a cowardly act
Simple question... Are you a Giants fan? If so, Congratulations on a great season and a tremendous game. Championships are forever. If you're not a fan of that organization, and only have a particular issue with the Patriots, rubbing it in is classless.HTH
Syrus = Dman, so you can figure out where all that is coming from..

 Amani was so clutch this post season. The emergence of Bradshaw and S smith after what looked like a lost season almost for both. SO many little things. Thanks to D Ward, maybe a forgotten player. You cant win it without getting there, and he was huge when we needed him. Im so hung over, its so worth it.

Definitely not. I had a whole house full of Packer fans screaming for every positive thing that happened for the Giants. Yes the Giants, the same team that knocked us out. Today is a good day.

For the Giants to win,m the stars must align. The Giants must play a perfect football game to have a chance (they did not - stumble on Moss' TD, dropped ball leading to an INT etc.). Giants must at the least score 30+ and hope to get lucky at the end. Giants need to have a great running game going for 150+ on the ground. Giants absolutely MUST convert in the red zone, with TDs, every time they get there.

The fact is, the Giants made some mistakes. They did not have divine intervention, nor some really lucky breaks (no more than NE did). Their offense sputtered on NE's side of the 50 early on. The fact is, and I can't believe I am going to say this, the Giants outplayed AND outcoached NE last night with Eli outplaying Brady. They were the better team on this one day.

Totally agree, this one was magical..
As a 'Skins fan, I must say that this was the most enjoyable Super Bowl and outcome that I've ever had that didn't involve my own team.I'd also add that that's pretty remarkable that I feel that way because I never root for NFC East teams. I know that some NFC East fans, including some of my fellow 'Skins fans, will root for other NFC East teams when the 'Skins are out of the running, but for me the rivalries are too visceral for me to cross over.

Congrats, Giants and fans. Great, great win.

The the most frequent comments I heard on Sunday -- from morning until kickoff -- were that the Giants would need to keep getting to Brady, knocking him down or out, to have a chance to win the game, and that they would need to convert their third-down opportunities. They did both.

This is one of the sweeter ironies, IMHO. The offensive hubris caught up to the Pats.

As a Patriots fan...

Congrats to the New York Giants and their fans :bye:

Heartbreaking loss but the Giants defense really stepped it up and Eli was "Brady" during the game winning drive.

Some tough breaks that hurt/didn't go our way such as the missed interceptions (esp. the Asante Samuel one at 1:16 IIRC) but the Giants made the plays and the Patriots didn't.

We'll see you guys next year in the SB! :bye:

Funny how everyone thought whoever came out of the NFC this year would simply get fed to the AFC team. Guess our conference deserves a little respect huh?

There is definately some irony there. I dont agree with th OP anyway. If your Eli, drivng to tie it, to me, cant be any more pressure filled than driving to WIN IT.

The Pats players were class all the way in their interviews. I think everyone was surprised that the Giants really just outplayed NE during the game (not by a lot though). Having more turnovers and winning is pretty shocking, but the defensive line really won the game for the Giants. Ironically, the one time the NE defensive line really pressured Eli was on the final drive.

Great game and what a run for the Giants...The 86 win was fun, the 90 was exciting, but this playoff run was an absolute blast. Had 9-11 crazy fans who were into EVERY play for all the games and it was the most football watching fun I have ever had in my life.

At the start of the 4th quarter I said, the Giants are playing for two things in my opinion, either I am going to be extremely proud of my team or I am going to be ecstatic...I a glad the latter happened.

Amazing how many people thought the Giants would implode in spring training and now they win the SB...

Peace!
Better check the box score again ... both teams had only 1 TO.

Well, technically the Pats turned the ball over on downs, right?

Nice call Bellicheck, 4th and 13, hahaha
That was the call of the game. They never used Gostkowski right all year. Going for it on 4th down instead of FG attemps, usually up big on opponents. Now, with the Super Bowl on the line in a close game they chose not to take the points? If they aren't comfortable with their kicker hitting a 39 yarder, they only have themselves to blame. They should of worked him in more in those regular season blow-outs instead of going for the TD records. Love it!!!!!!!!Great game Gmen!!!!

No, I wasn't counting that. NE had 1 fumble lost, NYG gave up 1 int.
