Holes to fill: Catcher (AJ Pierzynski is a FA), LF, and DH

They need to address the profar/andrus situation. Andrus can be traded for a legit LF. DH and catcher should be addressed thru FA (McCann?)

I like the starting rotation (if the resign Garza and people get healthy). I think the bullpen has enough key pieces.
Cruz is a free agent and "good" Moreland is still just a mid-level 1st baseman. The only everyday positions accounted for in 2014 are 3B, SS, 2B and CF.
Great posting.

Andrus is not going to be traded. Granted his production has sucked this season, but I think you look at him, Beltre and Kinsler and you say you are happy with 3/4ths of your infield for the next three seasons. Martin isn't a free agent until 2019. Looks like you might have CF taken care of for sometime.

If you can somehow sign Garza, then you have a great rotation situation with 5 guys under 30 that you have under control for sometime.

Still, this team needs some corner bats and they need them now. The David Murphy experiment has been the unspoken failure of this season. He just did not deliver on what many people (including myself) thought he could do for this team.
Corner bats? Guess within +/-5 how many RBI have come from the CF position this year.

I guess I just always come from the old school where CF is all about speed and defense and it's your corners with your big sticks and sub-par defense. Josh spoiled us with his production from CF.

Nolan basically said during the game there wouldn't be any trades. Maybe some waiver additions, but since as of friday lots of teams will be looking for bats don't hold your breath.

Exciting couple of nights there. Nice to see some runs scored.

Potentially a season altering series this weekend. After that the August schedule looks very kind (Angels, Astros, Brewers, Mariners, Astros, White Sox, Mariners). #stilloptimistic

What are you going to do with Profar then?

Murphy is a FA, thankfully.

Schedule for August:

3 @ Oak

3 @ LAAAA

4 @ Hou

2 vs. Mil

3 vs. Sea

3 vs. Hou

3 @ Chi Sox

3 @ Sea

3 vs Minn

If you can't make a run against that competition, you don't belong in a playoff run. Outside of Oakland, every team is below 0.500.

Side note, Texas has 10 games left with Houston. Oakland has only 7. Oakland finishes with 7 on the road, Texas finishes with 7 at home, Houston for 3, LAAA for 4.

I'm starting to talk myself back into the thought of 162+.

Picked up Adam Rosales....why? They can't play Profar enough as is. Sent E Beltre to AAA. Washington said Profar won't play OF even if Cruz is suspended....so who is???

Be ready to see a lot of Murphy-Gentry-Martin starting lineups with Baker being the fourth OFer I guess. Defensively an upgrade, but man that's not much pop at all.

ugh....going to be an ugly finish I'm afraid.

Time for the puma to get healthy and start hitting. Moreland and Murphy need to heat up. This thing is going to be ok. Just going to have to win some more 2-1 games.

I am shocked just how bad the Angels are. 2-10 vs. us this year now. That stadium looks so empty now. Almost A's empty.

That hurts, but I think the Garza trade makes it not hurt as bad. I would still like to see Harrison come back and take Ogando's spot in the rotation, and Ogando become that two inning monster that he can be. And I still think Feliz can get back and help this thing as well.

The pitching and defense will be there, just need to score a few runs.

Suspended Texas Rangers slugger Nelson Cruz said on Monday that his involvement with Biogenesis was tied to a gastrointestinal disorder he suffered before the 2012 season.

Meanwhile, over in San Francisco, it appears that Mike Krukow might think that Cruz is still suffering from that tummy bug. Speaking with the eloquence that only a former MLB pitcher can muster, Krukow said Cruz had "taken a dump" on the Texas Rangers by being hit with a 50-game suspension that will keep him out of the AL West pennant race.

Get the man some Immodium, stat!

Here's the full text of what Krukow said during his appearances on Comcast SportsNet Bay Area’s “Giants Pregame Live”:

"I hate to see it happen in the middle of the season, especially as you start to get into the really interesting part of the season. But when is a good time to do it? You know, these guys have brought this down on themselves and when is a good time to reprimand them? Well maybe this is the best time because Nelson Cruz has taken a dump on the Texas Rangers. How do they feel down there, the Texas faithful. They're great fans. They don't deserve this. So I'm sorry this has to happen to them and to that organization and to that fanbase. But you know what? It does has to happen and hopefully if it happens to these guys, everybody around baseball that has a number on their back can maybe say 'I don't want that to happen to me.' And maybe this is what we finally need and maybe this is a good day."

Rangers still have 8 more games against LAA left to along with 10 games against Houston. In % terms 37.5% of the remaining Rangers schedule will be played against the Angels and Astros.

30% against SEA, MIN, CHW and MIL.

I haven't looked at other contenders schedule, but I can't imagine it gets much easier than that...

Question for the experts since you guys follow a tad more than I do.. why not Jeff Baker at one of the corners? Is he a terrible fielder?

His best defensive position is probably 2nd base, although he is career utility man. Also, he career suggests the power he has displayed with the Rangers does not match his career.

Making up 6 games in 9 days is pretty impressive. I was looking to get within a couple of games by the end of the month. Now this thing could capsize just as quickly, but this is setting up to putting some distance between them and Oak before the schedule gets tougher in Sept.

Rangers claim Alex Rios off waivers. Now let's see if they get him. I'm going to guess JD is not going to give up much, if anything, and will just try to get Chicago to unload the contract.

Rios and 1 million for player to be named later (once rumored to be Luery Garcia)

Sitting 12th row behind the Astros bench for Sat night game. Something called Brad Peacock is pitching so it should be bombs away for the good guys. Plus your boy Brad will be Peacocking so its kinda perfect when you think about it. :excited:

Won't give you the power that Cruz did, but hopefully won't suck and will be better than any Baker/You/Me platoon in RF.
