Anyone been in a tomb with Varla stones that fire snowballs at you? I couldnt take them out of their holder, and they constantly shot a cold spell at me. Seemed odd.

I just realized last night I have a Varla Stone, but I have no clue where I got it. How do I get it full of magical goodness? I guess I'll figure it out as I progress in the mages guild....

I haven't done much exploring yet - just working through thief guild and the DB.  What large town is Anvil located near?  I am seeing a lot of talk about Anvil and I want to check it out for myself tonight.

PS - Is there a way to zoom out the map on the 360 version?  Its not a major deal but just a pain in the butt to scroll the map around in that fixed view.

Recharges magic-charged items. I used one twice before it was gone; unfortunately, I only had one magic weapon, so it was kinda wasteful. Those magic charges get used up fast.

Those are NOT Varla stones.Edit to say they are traps, nothing more. They look a little like Varlas, but are not.

I really don't think that it matters too much what your major and minor skills are. You should just be aware that if you have speechcraft as a major skill, you shouldn't gain 6 levels only by going town to town playing the wheel game.

I don't think there is a create item stone either.I think I've had the same thing happen with Soul Trap as well. I know I have received messages that I didn't have a powerful enough gem to trap the soul. But sometimes I'm pretty sure I hit the critter with the spell, but I get no confirmation after it dies. I am just guessing that I missed on the spell as it does some wicked things to the air around you when it is cast. I have not actually physically verified this by checking my stock of gems, just going by the text at the top of the screen when fighting a single critter.

not exactly a specfic stone, but.... The sigil stones can be used to create items, and the soul gems are used in conjuction with items to enchant them in the arcane university

Hold Good GOD is clearing Kvatch at lvl 13 a mother ####er!!!!

I would think that being a Dark Elf would prove HIGHLY beneficial as they are racially resistant to fire (75%). I spent 3 hours just trying to help the guy finish clearing out Kvatch. I went thru over 130 arrows (and yes I loot corpses to retrieve them when possible) and ran out of poisons and heal potions. Just wow difficult. This is technically a "Misc. Quest" as once you clear the Oblivion Gate and get to Martin, you don't have to clear the rest of Kvatch right away (but it DOES help later on in the game).

Keys to clearing it:

-LOTS of potions/poisons and tons of arrows (for those that are archers)

-Remember, animals and monsters can not go thru doors, humans can.

-save games are your friends..use them OFTEN!

Has anyone else done this? You've been warned.

I think item repair, especially magic item repair, is ridiculously cheap. I mean, I can have five or six high-quality items repaired from almost 0% for a couple hundred gold.

Maybe heavy meleers have a different take on it, but I think investing any significant time in it would be a waste.

You should have a sigil stone in your inventory already. just select it and it will bring up a screen that shows what its potential powers are and you can select what item to attatch it to. It will use the bad effect if you attatch it to a weapon (giving it charges), otherwise it will make a continuous item with the good effect.ETA: You get to name it too

I have some great elven armor to enchant now, too.

Have you found the glass armor yet? i have a set hanging around one of the houses since its the lightest stuff I can find. don't know how easily is breaks down though. Its definitely the best value/lb. I've found as far as common items go, so I tend to grab it first on dungeon dives. Running through a couple levels of mine/cave/fort/etc. usually gets me anywhere from $10k-$30k

glass armor = for the thiefs. It is the best light armor and holds up well. That armor was great in Morrowind and I am expecting the same in Oblivion (Im not far enough in the game to come across it yet).

Apparently, there were some problems with the AI, as well as memory leaks. The AI they are trying to get with this game is amazing. Take an NPC, for instance. They give him things he has to do, as well as his own agenda and needs, and set him loose to accomplish that however he sees fit. Makes for a very different experience all over. However, they have had problems. For instance, there was one area where 1 monster was supposed to protect a unicorn, but it kept killing it. Stuff like that to figure out.

Anyway, should be awesome.

I know that you guys readily admit to being nerds, but the highlighted portion above is simply the reason that I couldn't ever bring myself to play this game. Give me football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, racing--even GTA, Medal of Honor, Hitman, etc. But I just can't get into fantasy-type stuff. Sort of sucks, too, since everybody seems to love this game. . .

So if you had a 'restore health' potion that is 'restore 4 health for 13 seconds' that's really a total of 52 health restored come 13 seconds later, right?

And if so, yeah, that's a MEAN bow

The Item Creation in the AU seems about unfair. I went out, bought a Dwarven bow and added 2 seconds of 25 fire damage to it.

I have some great elven armor to enchant now, too.

This reminds me of a question I keep meaning to ask, and it'll probably sound dumb and "duh", but:For heal potions and spells such as the 2 seconds for 25 dmg...that means it does 25 damage, every second, for 2 seconds, for a total of 50 damage in 2 seconds, right? So if you had a 'restore health' potion that is 'restore 4 health for 13 seconds' that's really a total of 52 health restored come 13 seconds later, right?

And if so, yeah, that's a MEAN bow

Sad thing is, most of us probably still have the majority of the game in front of us. this thread is not going to slow down anytime soon.

OK then, a question for those who are in the dark brotherhood: When you are first approached, that recruiter guy gives you that ####ty blade of woe. He talks about how it "thirsts for blood". Now, i forgot all about it when I went to kill that scrub old man to gain my entrance. I have, since then killed with it. Did it unlock and special stuff on the blade if you killed the old man with it? Did I miss out?

Also, just got assigned the "accidents happen" DB quest. Cool stuff. I'm having a hard time going down to this DB light armour, though...My heavy armour skill is up in the high 90s and I've got a complete set of daedric heavy armour for my guy. I could take a nuclear ####### bomb in that gear and still get up and slay an army by myself. Once you get spoiled with that stuff, it's hard to do anything without it. It is not, however, good for sneaking. :(

Also, you know you're playing too much of this game when...

A ####### fruit of the loom commercial comes on, and you look at the apple guy and the grape guy, and the first thing you think of is

"With my current alchemy score, I could combine those 2 and create a potion of restore fatigue at 41 points"

I actually thought that when I was going to sleep and that ad came on TV last night.

Why wouldn't you use armorour as a skill? It uses endurance, probably the most important attribute in the game to rush to get to 100.

The quicker you build your endurance up, the more gross HP's you'll end up with in the end.

I do not think that you missed anything with the blade. I can not drop it though. Doesn't weigh anything, but just crowds my weapons page.And that is the best armor that I have yet encountered, the DB light armor. Then again, I am a thief/assassain

Hold Good GOD is clearing Kvatch at lvl 13 a mother ####er!!!!

I would think that being a Dark Elf would prove HIGHLY beneficial as they are racially resistant to fire (75%). I spent 3 hours just trying to help the guy finish clearing out Kvatch. I went thru over 130 arrows (and yes I loot corpses to retrieve them when possible) and ran out of poisons and heal potions. Just wow difficult. This is technically a "Misc. Quest" as once you clear the Oblivion Gate and get to Martin, you don't have to clear the rest of Kvatch right away (but it DOES help later on in the game).

Keys to clearing it:

-LOTS of potions/poisons and tons of arrows (for those that are archers)

-Remember, animals and monsters can not go thru doors, humans can.

-save games are your friends..use them OFTEN!

Has anyone else done this? You've been warned.

Yes.. I did Kvatch... and I am a Dark Elf with some other extra 15% fire proof thing I wear. I did notice that it would have been hard as hell with out it.. but those big guys were still a huge pain in the ###. It made them flying critters easy though.

Finished the Mage Guild quests last night.

I'm now just trying to buy every spell in the book to enhance my spellmaking and enchanting abilities.

I can't believe how much gold I'm raking in, up until about level 18 or so, I was extremely poor. Now that glass an ebony stuff is dropping in dungeons, I'm like Donald Trump.

Also, I've gathered a complete set of master alchemy hardware from chests opened in the last 3 mage guild quests for those that were wondering where to find it.

I finished the Dark Brotherhood quest last night. I have enjoyed that one the best thought the Mages Guild on e has been good too.

Oh yeah, "Spill blood for me my brother"

Also, if any of you enjoy the DB quests, check out The Dark Brotherhood Mod. It's still in development but it looks very promising.

Apparently, there were some problems with the AI, as well as memory leaks. The AI they are trying to get with this game is amazing. Take an NPC, for instance. They give him things he has to do, as well as his own agenda and needs, and set him loose to accomplish that however he sees fit. Makes for a very different experience all over. However, they have had problems. For instance, there was one area where 1 monster was supposed to protect a unicorn, but it kept killing it. Stuff like that to figure out.

Anyway, should be awesome.

I know that you guys readily admit to being nerds, but the highlighted portion above is simply the reason that I couldn't ever bring myself to play this game. Give me football, baseball, basketball, hockey, soccer, racing--even GTA, Medal of Honor, Hitman, etc. But I just can't get into fantasy-type stuff. Sort of sucks, too, since everybody seems to love this game. . .

I've largely ignored endurance as well, which is one reason I ignored armorer. Also because I mostly ignored strength, so I can't be carrying tons of repair hammers. On the other hand, my int = 99 and my willpower is 100 now, personality is in the low 70s (illusion) and agility is now high 60s (stealh/lockpick)I really dont have to care about hp as one paralyze followed up by a 6x sneak attack and a lighning bolt or 2 takes care of all but the toughest enemies. Getting surrounded would suck, but thats what invis is for.
