Just on another note, does anyone find lockpicking to be ridiculously easy?

Ive only got a 30 or so in security but can pop a "Very Hard" lock with 1 lockpick.
I've been having a hard time. I can do two pretty easy but I keep f'n up the third spring.
Just tap them once or twice before trying to lock it. Get the speed down and you should be able to do all 5 springs without breaking a pick.

Good idea.

Is anyone in the fighter's guild? I"m in Chorral, and I CANNOT find the guy i'm supposed to go to get contracts from... driving me friggin' insane! I want to try and advance there then hit up the Arena.
I'm in the fighter's guild, but I signed up in Avril and the guy was always in the lobby of the fighter's guild.
Guy in the other town is in the Fighters Guild building too. Might have to wait(quick time) a couple of hours for him to show.

Hopefully that's all it is - that's the first place i checked then both Inn's and nada. Thanks

Have any of you tried the forums over at elderscrolls.com? Holy crap are they SLOOOOOOW and are getting blitzed hard. I have seen a thread drop from page 1 to page 2 in less than a minute.
Yeah they are getting slammed. If you are looking for game threads and not technical threads, then you might want to take a look at the xboxlive.com forums. Not going to help on any technical pc issues but alot of game discussion going on and its the same exact game for both the 360 and the pc supposedly.

They're not worth it anyway. Too many 13 year olds with short attention spans not using the Search function or whining that they can't figure out how to join the Thieves guild.

reviews (in a nutshell) so far?
My only problem is that I really don't like playing it on the PC after getting used to Morrowind on the Xbox. I don't have a 360 yet, but this may be the title that forces me to get one.

I'm pretty new to this site and don't venture in the Free For All much but.

*** I DO NOT LIKE RPG'S NORMALLY*****

But I think this game is absolutely phenomenal.

I think it's the fact that I feel like I'm in control of the action compared to the other RPG's. I know there are other ones similar to this out there but this is my first one in a LONG time.

I like the fact that you don't have to be into all the fine details and still enjoy the game. You don't need to know that Sword A is better against enemy type X. Does it help. Yes but you can still have fun.

I'm absolutely blown away with the size of the "world" I keep getting pulled into all directions.

I'm definitely hooked on this game

** 360 BTW

Wide open gameplay is great. I haven't played a RPG in forever and I had no trouble picking up most concepts, though I admit I haven't tried much of any spellcraft.Graphics are great even with my ####ty card. I can only imagine what they must be like with a real vid card.

Amazing high-end graphics if your machine can handle them. Great wide open character creation, development and gameplay. Controversial leveling system that can cause you big problems if you choose the wrong skills and level up too quickly (ie Speechcraft or mercantile leveling you up quickly, thus increasing the difficulty of the enemies you will face but leaving you under-developed in combat, stealth or magic skills). Still some bugginess that needs to be resolved with .ini editing until the first patch is released. Overall, I’d put it at about a 9 out of 10 for me. I like it a lot but haven’t yet moved it into an all time favorite category.

The game is great... if you can get it running. A LOT of people with a wide range of systems are having problems with crashes and poor performance. The graphics are outstanding and, as others have said, the game is very non-linear -- the few quests I have seen have multiple outcomes and heck, you don't even have to do the quests if you don't want to.

You can build just about any kind of character you like. Most of the gameplay is very easy to learn, but there are plenty of challenges.

Gamespot, who I trust for reviews, gave it a 9.3. I'd probably be closer to 9.2 or 9.1 but their review is pretty accurate.

http://www.gamespot.com/pc/rpg/theelderscr...ion/review.html

The Good: Huge, lavishly detailed world offers tremendous amount of action and adventure; main mechanics like combat, stealth, and magic are fun and well designed; impressive artificial intelligence and hundreds of believable characters; outstanding symphonic score, as well as excellent voice acting and sound effects; tremendous replay value, plus gorgeous graphics to make it easy on the eyes.

The Bad: Frequent though fairly brief loading times; you might run into some technical issues with performance.

 I see it say Loading Area on my computer fairly frequently, but it never even stops my gameplay. It is completely seamless for me. Maybe I am just lucky with my system and all the RAM I have.

Let me know what you think of GC2. I'll probably buy that in a month or so.

You are. I get some short wait times as it loads to a new area. Maybe 10 - 15 seconds max. I have 1 GB of RAM.

:goodposting: I'd love a good space game, but I was pretty disappointed with GC I.

For those curious about the game, I can not rave enough about it. Awesome RPG, completely open as far as what you want to do, in game. Great game

BUT

I am running this on my new PC (built in Dec):

AMD64 3700+ Processor

7800GT video card (2 or 3rd best on the market)

2Gig Ram

oodles of HD space

24" Flatscreen/Widescreen Sony Monitor

Running this at 1920 x 1200 resolution and outside, I am getting only 10-25 fps, indoors is fine, 30-60 fps. And in some forest areas, my game will lock up when there are tons of foliage around.

I am very much looking forward to the first patch to help with it, but it is, by no means, unplayable. Just could improve the stability some and it would be my fav. game of all time. All in due time, me thinks.

Oh, and I know I could lower the resolution and get a higher frame-rate, but I'm spoiled and it looks to good to do that :P

Oh and I'm up to over 80 in sneak and a few others regarding my ranger/thief/assassain. Level 7 now and LOVING IT!

Deep into the Thieves Guild quests and the Dark Brotherhood quests, as well as a "Blood Letter" in the Arena. Love this game!

Yeah, the loading area is seemless for me as well, except in extreme forest area.

BTW, Mad Cow, have you tweaked your .ini file?

I was hoping you might be able to send me copies of your original one and one with the tweaks (I forgot to save the original before I started tweaking it...D'oh).

bonusfishing@gmail.com if so.

TIA

Going along with my last post, lemme ask everyone:

What resolution are you playing on and what are your fps indoors vs outdoors?

Please?

You have a copy of the original ini file in the main directory. You tweak the one in my Docs

OK, here's the dealio with persuasion. I have gotten pretty good at it, but it requires a little luck.

There are 4 pies. Each causes one of 1 reactions with a person. Figure you can rank them 1 to 4 based on how well they like that pie section. 1 being hate, 2 dislike, 3 OK and 4 awesome.

You HAVE to choose all 4 in each minigame. The goal is to minimize the amount you will with 1 and 2 and maximize that of 3 and 4. Now keep in mind that the wheel rotates each time you choose, as well. I don't know if this is random, or not - never looked a whole lot, but regardless, it changes. Keeping that in mind, you want to take the lowest hate(1) and the highest awesome (4) as soon as you can. The 2 middle options don't have nearly as much sway as the 2 extremes, so consider those the flex options and take them with whatever you get. If you start the game with the lowest on hate, I always opt for that one, then proceed. If not and the highest one is on love (4), then choose that one. It is a game of give and take and luck to a large degree. Once you understand that, it is very easy.
 Finally got it figured out. I'm now officially a suave MOFO.

Now if someone could only explain lockpicking to me...

Not as bad as it seems

For those that do not know, you do NOT need to D/L FRAPS for fps.

While in game, hit the "~" key (next to the number 1 key, but just hit it, no shift):

then type: tdt

then enter

then "~" again and it will show you your fps in the upper right corner.

Also, you can save your games this was as well and name them as you wish:

hit the "~" button, then type: "save ****" (w/o the quotes) and then after it says saved game or save sucessful or whatnot, hit the "~" button again and continue on.

Lastly, you can not rename saves while in game. After though, you can go into C:/my Docs/games/oblivion/saves and rename them to whatever you want. You can do this regardless if it's "Save 31" or if you named the save in game (ie "Sideways Cave")

You're welcome.

And thanks Mad Cow for the original location...can you tell me what tweaks you've done and your fps now? Please?

Only thing I have done is gone to TESource or whatever and got that mod to reduce the reticle size when sneaking. Now it doesn't blot out the target when I'm bow sniping.

Ok, here is a quick guide for lock picking:Each time you "lift" a tumbler (order does not matter, 1-5), it rises at a different speed, which is random. The slower the tumbler "lifts" the longer it will "stick" in the raised position. When it sticks at the top, click the left mouse button. Sometimes, it will take 8-10 "lifts" of a tumbler to get it to rise slowly. PATIENCE IS THE KEY!!! Sometimes it will "lift" slowly on the first try, but just watch the rhythm of it. If it raises slowly and you wait too long or just miss it and it falls again, keep doing it and it will "lift" slowly again at some point. PATIENCE PATIENCE PATIENCE.

Hope that helps.

I have actually increased the distance that grass is drawn on the horizon from 2000 to 10,000 and the result is spectacular. No more grass forming just ahead of you. It is all drawn wherever you look.I will post frame rate shortly.

OK, running HDR at 1280X1024 getting 60+ FPS indoors and 35-40 outdoors.
:jealous:Ok, Cow, I want your .ini file, please? You're getting x2 fps that I am...is my running at 1920 x 1200 THAT big a difference maker?

Well, a little, but my video card is roughly equivalent to almost 2 of yours in some tests.

GDB this game. I was up until 1:30 playing it. When the alarm clock went off at 6:15 I was really hurting.
 Forced myself to turn the computer off at 1145 after playing for about 3 hours. As a side note, anyone know where to find some ghosts? I need to gather some ectoplasm
