***OFFICIAL***The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion thread (2 Viewers)

The only sure place I beleive is your own house. Chests seem to reset after a while and things on the ground tend to disappear. I've had some items in the family crypt (side quest) for 6 days now, so that may be another option.

I must have missed the $2K house as shown earlier in the thread. Where is that located?

Whoever had the lockpicking sound tip, thanks, works great!

Quick question for all. May have been addressed but this thread is to damn long now to look. Where can you safely store items? I found a few that are named, so probably quest items. Odd ball type things. They are to heavy for my wussy assasin to carry around since strength is not a main upgrade for me (I tend to upgrade speed, endurance and agility). Where can I safely leave these things? I have done mage guild quests in Chorrol and Skingrad. I also have a free room in some town where I made them visible again. Are these good places? Or do I need to go back and drop 2 grand on a house? If that's the case, who offered the house? I had the offer but forgot from whom.
kinda of bouncing off of this topic, here is a newbie question: Should I be picking up everything I find? So far I have been because I figured that at the very least I should be able to sell it, no?FYI, I have never played an Elder Scrolls game before except for maybe a few hours of Morrowwind, so I'm totally new to all this.

You can, and its what I did, but you'll shortly find yourself deciding what to keep based on value. the goblin shaman's staff down there is handy when starting out, especially if you're a mage. May I reccomend alchemy? nothing like being able to make potions of whatevre you need, including invisibility and nice health draining / frost damage / magika damaging poison for your weapon :nerd:

I got that offer VERY early in the Imperial City. I was only level 1 or 2 at the time. I hope it's still available. I believe it was on the waterfront. But I got the offer in town. I may have to root around and try to find it.Oh, edit to add, I was probably in the market district when I got the offer because that's about all I've done. Maybe a city office?

Save it when you see light on the other side of the grate!!!!!!And do not overwrite that save point at any time. That way, you can make new characters w/o starting over :)

I think it's in the market district city office, yes. Fairly certain...it's the store (forget the name) that is perpendicular to the main walkways in the market district.-fe

Gotta pick class now. The guard thinks I'm a pilgrim. NOt sure what to pick.

FE, what do you mean 'save it'?
When you get near the end of the sewers, ahead of you, you can see the outside world (thru a grate/fence) ahead of you. Now, I'm on the PC, so not sure about the 360, but we can save the game anytime we want. Make a save point there, and never overwrite it. Otherwise, you will have to go thru the entire sewers again, for each character you make. Just saves 30-45 mins, since you can remake your character before you leave the sewers.-fe

oh ok cool...thanks for the tip.

The Imperial City has a shack for $2K. There is a nicer house in Skingrad, and a haunted one you have to clear out in Avril for $5K.

I have been thinking about buying a house, myself.

Oh, and it IS possible to have thieves break in and take stuff.

Have this for 360. Only have played 5-10 hours so far and restarted once to create a custom character.

I've closed the first Oblivion gate and haven't done too many side missions yet.

Since acrobatics and athletics are two of my main skills a jump a lot at random times as I'm cruising around - anyone else do this? I look like a tool, but it sure helps to bump the stats.

Since I've found this thread, I'll be sure to keep the digital camera handy to snap any cool pics I come across during play. If anything you'll be able to see what it looks like on a 360 in HD on a 50" plasma...

:kicksrock: Trumps mine on a 34" LCD (unless you don't have 1080i) I should put the webcom on it sometime if anyopne wants to watch it for 5 min to see what the :nerd: is about

Just hit Journeyman for Alchemy. :pickle: You can really make decent money if you spend some time on this. Paid for my ####house and level 5 restoration training in 2 nights of gameplay. Now that I'm journeyman, I go into a supplies store, buy all their ingredients, bust out the calcinator, and sell them back potions and make at least double your money. Good stuff.

All I've been doing is sidequests. I'm in the middle of "Paranoia" right now. Pretty cool one. I gotta decide if I wanna play ball with this fruitcake or drop the dime on him.

The Office of Imperial Commerce. The ladies a biotch and you have to get her to like you with the pie game before she will let you buy one.

Anyone else really into Alchemy? Maybe I just like picking flowers and poisoning swords on my own, but I am digging this so far. The best is you don't need to buy any empty beakers or be at an alchemy table to do it. I rarely ride my horse anywhere as I'm always collecting herbs. Not to mention the easy money and you can steal ingredients, make potions, then sell them at regular merchants.
Yup..I'm with ya.. and today on the way to work I saw some pretty flowers and I wanted to pull over and pick them.

Last night I was sneaking around everywhere I went and have got the sneak up to 100. Then I found out this little trick that was working since my sneak was so high. I feel like it's kind of cheating.. but.. I'm not sure... well here's the spoiler.

This works after you get your sneak to 100, I don't know if it works before then because I didn't try until then.  I have been fighting in the Arena.  I wanted to see if i could get a 3x shot with my bow right when the gates go down.  So I walked up to the gate to get the anouncer to start talking and then snuck back onto the stairs.  My opponent runs to the middle of the arena and stops and the little eye dims... they can't find me!.  Once I heard one say "Where are you?"  You can light them up with arrows and they never see you.  It feels like I am cheating... but I am using the skills i built up.. so who knows.

WampusCat is up. Won't see him for a while. :nerd:
Yes, I've officially rejoined the ranks as an apprentice :nerd: Against all odds, I successfully installed the RAM, graphics card, and the game and they all worked on the first try.

The only stupid human trick I pulled was at the beginning when I dragged out the PC, opened it up, extracted the old card, then finally read the instructions on the new one.

Step 1 was "remove all old graphic card drivers" :bag:

The big problem with advancing your level fast with non-combat skills is you will soon be facing monsters to high for your ability. Athletics and acrobatics are great for running away, but what you need are combat skills.

Gah! I looked all over for the person who sells that friggin' house. Of course, I'd end up torching those pirates pretty quickly if I lived there. After looking all over the Imperial City for the salesperson, I went to Skingrad to track down the lady that sells that one and couldn't find her.

Finally bought an unfurnished one in Cheydinall... FOR 15 THOUSAND. Throw in another 12 grand or so for furnishings and it put a dent in my cash flow. I still have probably 60K though... it's almost ridiculous how much loot I'm finding in my dungeon crawls.

Has anyone contracted vampirism yet? I've just become afflicted and am going to play it out a bit and see where it leads me.

Finding that out now. :sadbanana: My dude can jump forever though, so I got that going for me.

I'll have to beat on some wolves in the woods...

Paranoia is very cool.
Really? I talked to the fruitcake and started following the first lady he asked me to spy on. When she went to the vineyard, I got bored and reloaded prior to initiating that quest. I went and got that magic bow instead. That was a tough couple of fights! I learned very quickly that trashing your magic blade, not being able to repair it, and having to fight with a weapon you aren't trained in (in this case, a dwarven axe) quickly gets you killed. But it took me like 8 tries to kill that damn bandit leader. I really need to get better at blocking.

Geez I can't seem to quit doing the side quests to get back to the main storyline.

Does everyone else pick a current quest and do it start to finish? At my current rate I'll end up with 200 hours before I go look for the 'heir'.

How important is it to be able to use the bow? I'm like level 5 now, and I've hardly used the thing, but I'm worried its going to bit me in the ### later.

I did the first lady, and then told the guy she was spying on him. When he asked me to follow someone else I didn't feel like doing it so I went and told the guard what he was up to.

 It depends on your build. I don't use a weapon at all, but I'm a mage. I'd say if you're surviving current ecounters you should be okay.Being able to take out an enemy before they see you is pretty nice though.

That's the route I was going to take. Just didn't sound that interesting. But since a few of you have said it is, and since I'm in Skingrad anways, I'll take it on!

Has anyone contracted vampirism yet? I've just become afflicted and am going to play it out a bit and see where it leads me.
I have a standing offer from a vampire to turn me, but I declined for now.
I got it inadvertently on another quest -- don't remember being bitten though -- and got the message the next time I rested. I've fed once but will probably seek the cure, as my guy's kind of a goody-two-shoes and is an honorary member of the vampire hunters' faction. Although that could get interesting...

Ritalin down?It is very entertaining if you go beginning to end, much like the merchant one in the Imperial City.

You can melee the whole way. personally, I use bow and destruction entirely. Every style of play can git r' done.

I had other more interesting quests to take care of. I'm sure I'll go back to that at some point.

Holy crap, man. 60K gold? I thought I was doing OK at 6K at level 10. :kicksrock:

I agree with the attacking before they even see/get to you thing. Maybe I should push that skill up...I'm a custom class Redguard:

athletics

acrobatics

blade

block

restoration

agility

conjuration

Well, I think I just made 24th level. In a single dungeon I'll usually pull out a bunch of glass weapons and armor, a few ebony items and now I'm find daedric stuff, too. Many of those items sell to merchants for 1000 gold, so it adds up quickly.

Trapsing around following a woman on what could be a wild goose chase just didn't seem that entertaining when there are so many other quests to do.

What are your favorite items?

On my Redguard tank I have a ring of the night eye which is awesome. I never realized how many chests I was probably missing in some of these dungeons until I got it.

On my Dark Elf assassin I have a life detect necklace, which is very handy when I'm stealthing around. Although that funky purple haze is kind of annoying around town.

Just looking at it, those are all really strong melee skills -- you might have a problem developing into an uber sniper, but you could use the bow as a first attack and then close for hand-to-hand.Like MC said, pretty much any style of play can make it.

Man, you are finding cool stuff.Me, I have a frost bow that does extra cold damage, which is pretty deadly when combined with a critical hit. I have a ring that increases my intelligence so I get more magicka. Spell absorption amulet, so when I am hit with spells, it absorbs a lot of it and recharges me.

I've been finding a bunch of magic bows lately, after going a long time finding none with my Dark Elf assassin.

That constant effect life detect is nice. I have a helm that goes out to 65' or 85' that makes dungeons a lot easier. My best item is an amulet that I got through the Mages' Guild quests that either absorbs or reflects spells (I can't remember which) and my Mage Guild robes that boost a bunch of my spell skills.

I also made a ring that boosts willpower so my magicka regenerates quicker.

So far (Breton Mage) beides the items I got for doing Assassin quests, my "assassin's" chest piece (constant chameleon effect -- pretty sweet) For some reason I seem to find some nice boots too: Have boots of unburdening (something like that) that add an extra 50 on my weight limit. boots of waterwalking are pretty sweet too.

Is anyone a Journyman marksman... I was wondering how cool the zoom is?
Yes, it is nice. You have to pull the string back FIRST, then click right to zoom. I kept clicking right to zoom first and was blocking and was like WTF?
