Anybody do the quest where you have to find out who stole the missing painting?  I was :wall: on it for at least an hour last night.  I finally just gave up on it.
Yes, I finished it. What question do you have?

I interviewed all the people, found the paint supplies in the mage's room, then found the painting in the basement of the west tower, but I still don't have enough evidence to accuse either the mage or the drunk.  I've walked all over that GD castle and looked in every crate, sack, and chest I could find but I'm not finding any more evidence.  :wall:
Go into the dining hall and look on the floor. Had to cheat to complete this as well.
Thanks.
I have a broken quest i think. It was the one with high taxes on everything and boarded up houses (forclosures) and the peasant guy who gets killed trying to take back his house.

I have it completed, but needed to wait 2 hours to meet the Quest giver (forget his name) for my reward. I waited the 2 hours (long time ago), but he never showed up. I walk all over, no dude. I even found the dirty tax culprit is in jail, yet the quest giver in no where to be found.

he may have wandered off or ran opff to fight something. try waiting an hour or 2 and see if he shows back up

Alchemy question. Never used this skill before but am trying it out now. I know there are 4 alchemy devices. Do you need to have all 4 in your possesion to max out the effects of the potion? Or does it only use the "best" piece you have? I've been lugging all 4 around and wonder if it's necessary for my wussy strengthed wood elf.
There's 4 pieces:.

.

.

So, if this is something you want to improve at, carry the higest level item of each of the 4 hardware pieces.
Ok, that's what I thought. Just wanted to make sure carrying 4 pieces wasn't wasting encumberance.

espcially if you're char is wimpy, the "feather" line of spells is great for 2 reasons -- first, carry more stuff. Second, i kept using them so i good grab a little extra stuff for cash, and it really helps your alteration go up when you have to keep casting it while you run around.

Yeah, this applies to everyone...always have 10 or 15 feather spells on you...makes looting from caves and quests much, much more profitable.Edit: you can stack the spells too...diminishing return on each additional one, but still -- if it comes to using another two feather spells or leaving a daedric curiass ($2800) behind...pretty easy call.

I did the Quest very early. Many many days have elapseds. Each time I go back to that town (Chorrol maybe) I check for him in the Inn and castle, but no luck.

Once you own a house, I furnished it "for storage" and then put all my alchemy things in one dresser. Prior to dropping off my M&P, etc, I make all the potions and poisons I think I'll need for awhile and then just carry those around. It frees up over 20lbs. (eta: some ingredients are damn heavy)

And I agree with the Feather spell/potions. A must for dungeon diving

also eta: for those that want t odo alchemy for $$$, keep in mind that the game caps user made potions/poisons at 56 septiums each (selling price). No matter how good they may be, that's the most you can sell them for. Just an FYI.

On the feather note... I believe it is the Mystic Emporium in Imperial City where they have Feather Shoes on display... Sneak in at night and steal them . They add a good bit of carrying room wjhen they are equipped. Also in the same store are fatique pants which add a constant effect to endurance.

Here's a question - how many quests are involved in the DB line? I am currently a Silencer and polishing off the Draconis family. How many more can I expect? I want to finish this line and then get started on the main quest a bit. After I enchant the crap out of a bunch of items, of course.

Speaking of that, are there any stores that sell grand and greater soul gems? I have a bunch of commons full, but want to really crank it up to 11 for a few weaopns.

Have you raided the Mages Guilds yet?

No - will that affect my standing in the Mages Guild? I want to do a bunch of enchanting.

without going to check, I'd say that you're probably about halfway through the DB quest.
Really? Holy crap, there is a lot to this, then. I thought working out of the Sanctuary would have been the lions' share.

There's usually a person in each mages guild that will sell grand soul gems (they usually have 2 in stock) and you can randomly find them laying around on desks or in display cases. If you're part of the Mages Guild, you can help yourself without penalty.

you may be a little more than halfway through. You still have a fair amount left though.

Yea.. I just got my alteration up enough to cast a feather spell... but before, I would just kill someone and drag them to the beginning of the cave, go loot, load their body up, go loot some more, load there body up until had the cave cleared out, then fast travel home, dump it and go back and reload. Pain in the ###.

Location of greater soul gems *spoiler*. I got these from the wiki in an effort to get rid of vampirism:There are eight grand soul gems loose in the Cyrodiil.

Most Mage Guilds will have one grand soul gem for sale.

Find one gem in Melisande's house, by going down a trapdoor in her fireplace, into the basement.

Two in Chorrol Mage's Guild, in level 5 case.

Arcane University, Imperial City. Three are located in a very hard case, right inside the Arch-Mage's Tower. Two of the gems are not empty, so the witch will not accept them.

Arcane University, Imperial City -- One in a case inside the Mage's Quarters.

Squandered Mine, northeast of Drakelowe. Located behind a secret door on the bottom level, guarded by an undead creature.

Crayfish Cave, down the Corbolo river to the south-southeast. Located on the fourth level of the cave, beyond secret door.

Nornal ruin, west of Drakelowe. On the map it is just left of the capital N where it says The Nibenay Bay.

You can receive several gems via the Sins of the Father quest.

What COLOR do you use to make this hints totally invisible?

Oh, believe me, I raided the crap out of the Mages Guilds as soon as I joined. :D

Have you guys seen that cheat/bug where you can fire an arrow into the ground and it will duplicate any item in your inventory? (that was the condensed version). I tried this last night 'cause I was bored trying to find the last two sprigs of garlic for the vampirism cure. Suddenly I was standing in a garlic patch.
more details here please.

So does everyone get bit by a vampire at some point in this game? Or is it just random?

I don't mean the porphyrric hemophilia disease that you can cure with a potion, I mean the you get bit while sleeping part.

Cloning items cheatAnybody know how to beat a Will-of-the-wisp? I went back to finish a quest and my opponents had been 'upgraded' :hot: This thing just wears me out - does an incredible amount of damage on one of it's attacks, and I can't recognize when it's coming. My weapon seems to have very little affect as well.

Interesting, I haven't been bitten while sleeping yet. Of course, I rarely ever sleep for more than an hour.

I think destruction spells work best on critters resistant to physical attacks...

I've beaten them before with either the greater staff of fire or the greater staff of frost (dont remember) .....but compeltely not worth it. takes a ton of magic. I just run when I see them.

I have beaten Will-o-Wisps with just my bow, with destruction spells, and also with my magic sword. Never had a problem with them before.

Can't say I've had a problem either. Sneak attack with a good dagger (glass w/ a 15 dmg enchantment - i have a few of em now) and a lightning bolt does the job 99% of the time.

Does anyone else feel pretty much invincible? While closing a gate last night, I found myself running around to collect 3 xivilais (who each summoned a clannfear) and a storm atronach to fight at the same time just so that my magicka and health would both be below 50% at the end of the fight.

I may switch over mid-game and start using light armor and a bow just to throw a twist into things.

Why not just up the difficulty slightly?ETA: that said, I rarely have trouble with standard mobs anymore, but I still have to be careful, since I have 32 endurance still. getting surrounded i can get beat down pretty quick.

one on one or two on one, I'm pretty confident I can #### up anyone in this game. It's those unfortunate situations where you get dropped into a 6 or 7 on one that S U C K. (like clearing the castle at Kvatch).

nope, not invincible, in fact i lose most times i'm not battling a rat or some other animal...

i have been beating the imps as long as i don't fight 3 in a row without recovering...

Imps were difficult for me early on, too. I think it may be that quest shield that I got that does like 25% damage reflection.

I don't have much trouble with opponents right now... I am like level 8 or so with something like 80 Strength and 85 endurance so I have a good amount of health. I have Blade at like 70 and heavy armor at 68 or so. I was lucky enough to snag a Dwarven Helmet and Cuirass off of a vamp in a cave. Can't find any more Dwarven armor though. Anyone know where I can get some? But since I am more in the mode of a tank, fighting is fairly easy.

I don't think there's a set place where you can find specific armour -- your enemies loot levels with your charactor....so you'll soon get a full set of dwarven....then you'll start coming across ebony weapons and armour....repeat the process.....then you'll get the daedric stuff. I got my full daedric set somewhere around when my level was 15-19

That cloning trick does not work for me. I wanted to give it a try, but it did not work for several items I tried.

Huh. You have to do it exactly right, but it's worked both times I've tried it.Draw the bow back but don't release it.

Hit tab

Double-click on the arrows you're firing in the inventory. You'll get a message saying "you can't do yadda yadda".

Shift-click on the item you want to clone, as if trying to drop it.

Tab out and fire the arrow

Try it with a simple item first - certain items won't clone.

And I can make you a heckuva deal on Varla stones... :D

Do you know if this will work on the 360 as well as PC?

I don't know why anyone with a PC would bother to do this as you can add any amount of items at will.

I am always amazed that people find these things out.

No clue about the 360, although there's nothing in the wiki that says it won't work.

It does make you wonder how they figured it out in the first place.

I'm not promoting using these for anything other than annoyance avoidance, or to see the cool effect of 40 Varla stones suddenly falling from the sky.

So is it when you are pulling the string back with the bow, or when you are switching to make the bow active?

How do you stop being a vampire.. i just got that ####.
Go talk to the main man at the University. He'ss send you on a quest to get the cure. It involves a lot of running around if you havent been stockpiling ingredients.

It works on the 360 - I have tried it in the past.It is when you have pulled the bow string all the way back and are holding the fire button. Thats when you go into your inventory and start the trick.

I am on buiness travel again this week so I have not gotten to play since Saturday night.

I know one thing when I get home friday night and saturday all day - my ### will be planted in front of the TV playing Oblivion :banned:

Yes the arrow cloning works on the 360 but.....

Make sure you remove any items you try to clone. I try to clone some waterwalking boots as a test and it worked but I couldn't equipment either pair of them, (including the original). I even tried to sell them and repurchase them back but I still couldn't equip them.

It also helps to make sure you only have 1 on the item you're trying to clone in your inventory.

Edit: The important part is clicking on the stack of equiped arrows to get the "you can't unequip...." message. That seems to cause the bug.
