Overall liked the show. Give an 8 out of ten. Some episodes seemed rushed. Needed like 2 more episodes. Not a fan of what they chose to spend whole episodes on over some cool stuff they left out from the game.

What cool stuff was left out?

Well if you played the game you would have been mad at several things.
First they spent a whole episode on bills love for another man. I don't mind but it killed so much. It was only briefly touched on in the game. Instead of that you could have had Elle, Joel, and bill going through an infected school fighting zombies and a bloater to find a car battery. It was way cooler than watching 2 guys making out. Maybe that's just me.
They also rushed all the stuff with Joel getting hurt and Elle having to help. Then her interaction with the cannibals. Alot more there. So much more leading to the hospital as well. The game was a better story.

Kind of like the book is always better than the movie. It works for games as well

Agreed 100%

I didn't love the show as much as everyone else did but it was good enough.

Every year Rolling Stone does their lists of best albums, movies, TV shows, etc. Their article this year on the 10 best TV show episodes included one from this show: Long Long Time, which was the Offerman/Bartlett episode.

In The Last of Us video game, players got to meet Bill, a survivalist friend of Joel’s still grieving the loss of his longtime partner Frank. The Last of Us TV show opted to show that relationship, rather than just talk about it, turning almost the entire episode over to guest stars Nick Offerman (as the gruff Bill, who has kept his sexuality a secret until after the world ended) and Murray Bartlett (as Frank, who keeps finding ways to be happy in post-apocalyptic life)
Rolling Stone's list also includes one from Reservation Dogs which I've seen -- Elora's Dad --- which was excellent. The other 8 the mention I can't comment on because I haven't seen them. One is from Succession.

i know nothing about the game. watched season 1. felt it was ok. just ok. guess i’ll watch season 2, but not really sure which direction this is going. in honor, maybe i’ll make a mushroom dish this week, like porcini.

I forgot this was back. Loved the first video game, and loved the first season. Never played the second game because the reviews at the time convinced me it was a huge drop. It seems like they should still be in the first game with the start of season 2, I'm pretty sure I remember where it left off.

How is the second season so far?

It’s excellent. So was the 2nd game, you should definitely play it. I believe first game and season ended at the same spot.

Whoa...... that was quite an episode, especially for the second of the season. I was expecting some more plot building, but they didn't hold back at all in this one. I also did not see this coming, wow.

haven't watched yet, but I played both games and pretty sure I know what scene took place last night. I'll put the rest in spoilers,

I really liked Pedro Pascal as Joel and I have concerns about how Bella Ramsey will be able to carry the show now, especially considering how dark the rest of the second game was.

You are right, I went back to watch the recap of Season 1 and it did end with the first game.

I watched the first episode of Season 2 and thought it was really good. I have an idea of what is about to happen so I see why people keep talking in spoilers. I think I may watch the series, then go back and play the game. The game is $50 on PC, I could probably get a PS version much cheaper.

Never played the game and was fortunate to not have been exposed to any spoilers that would have detracted from last night's episode. That said, I'm really curious if this show will retain the same level of relevance/staying power. Ellie has been annoying as hell this season.
Yeah, he was the glue. If this turns into a teen drama, I’m gonna be pissed.
I wouldn't expect it. They've been pretty faithful to the game. The only way this goes downhill is if Ellie actress can't carry it, cause I highly doubt they'll go off game-script at this point.

The dogs attacking the horde was pretty cool. The whole horde battle was well done.

I agree. And Ellie was 19 acting like a 19 year old. That moment aged her exponentially. I think you will see a less annoying 19 year old going forward.

I have a feeling you'll see a very different Ellie.
Maybe, but will it be one I care about?

I think it depends on how much you like a vengeful character.

I completely agree. She has been the only thing that has detracted from the first 2 episodes.

Plenty of people were probably hoping they would go another direction from the games. Obviously not.

Guessing this was the first decision they made when they started planning out the series.

Obviously don't love it....especially long term.
This was my initial thought also, but I felt the same or even stronger after the first season of GOT and the show just kept getting better and better (until it fell
off a cliff).

GOT had so many good characters though. Last of Us is basically Joel, Ellie and maybe Tommy……and the new firefly crew. I’m hoping as well but he was by far the best character.

The only person more annoying than Ellie is her new enemy. Not a big fan.

Entire group looked like a 90s teen band. Prime Joel could have taken all of them out.

Great episode and that's where I figured it was going. I will play the game at some point. The show is so well done I'll finish it, then move to the game.

I did read an article couple days ago which made me think. They may have a tough time getting Abby over with the viewers. In the game (which I've played), you spend half the game as Ellie, and half as Abby. I'll stop there to avoid any spoilers.

But that half game in Abby's shoes really creates an understanding of her world and her mindset.

Unless the show uses the old Joel time and fills it in with Abby's story (which they may, we'll see), it will be tough to get the audience to see Abby as anything other than a revenge-obsessed, murderous ###hole, entirely unlikable character.

Just seemed wrong that Joel, with everything he’s done and been through, would get taken out by the apple dumpling gang.
In the game, Abby looked more like Ronda Rousey than the actress they cast to play her. Kaitlyn Dever is a good actress though. Liked her in Justified and Dopesick.

Yeah, I’m nitpicking but my first reaction to seeing her and her crew was…….these clowns don’t look like they could fight their way out of a paper bag, let alone survive a zombie apocalypse for five years. Maybe a group who looks a little rougher and battle tested. When she got right in Joel’s face to tell her story, I half expected him to grab her and snap her neck, even knowing the outcome beforehand.

I didn't play the games so wow, caught me completely by surprise.

The thing that really caught me offguard was that in the trailers there are a bunch more scenes he's in that haven't happened yet. Not sure if those are flashbacks or were put in there completely as misdirection. I guess thinking about it one of the scenes is Ellie saying "you swore" so maybe that's a flashback to her finding out about SLC and that's the reason for their riff at the start of this season.

It was really something when the game came out and people hit this spot in the video game. the show did it well, but the video game was even more impactful.

Had a legit tear in my eye at like 1:45 a.m. by myself in my living room playing the game. Didn't pick the game up for awhile, had to process like a legit grief counseling to go on

this was a funny conversation with those playing the game as you proceed in it. Really one of the best video games writing wise i think ever

It came out of nowhere in the game. The show gave it away too early.

i'm thinking they were really concerned some would come out and spoil it before the episode. pretty impressive how the fanbase didn't even hint at it until this point

Just got back from vacation and watched the second episode, really good. I never played the game so I was surprised. Heck, I was even holding out hope until I saw the end.
Same (got back from Spring Break) but hated that. Joel was why I watched the show. Abby seems like a terrible character. Not sure it will hold my interest through the season.
