***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (5 Viewers)

I should not be surprised but even saying that, the finale was a huge let down.

==============

On the other hand, I enjoyed the Fear reboot.  I find it no coincidence that one of the best Fear episodes ever had zero screen time for Madison's character.

Loved the Eugene double cross. Didn't like no mercy Rick and actually thought him trying to do the right thing was noble. Hated the end scene with Maggie. Should have been someone there other than Jesus or Daryl. Dumb. Just letting everyone off with no punishment other than Negan seems dumb too, but i guess how do you separate the psychotic bad apples?

That was the war?  We have 3 effing seasons leading up to that?  I hope that show and the critics universally pan the crap out of that because what an insult to our intelligence.  So many things in that episode that were borderline ###### to point out.  But the 2 biggest were rick running out of bullets, realizing he had and then charging negan?  Do wut dude.  The second was the insanely comical last scene with Maggie and her crew.  WTF was that supposed to be?  Just something out of Naked Gun

No ####. Couldn't have been more anti-climactic than that.

Also, Maggie at the end turning into the Governor? WTF, seriously? Does she not have a baby as well or are we just ignoring that fact? Also, Jesus explains to Morgan that he shouldn't kill people, but then he has a Cheshire Cat sized grin after Maggie says that Rick and Michone are going to pay. Daryl lets Dwight go, but he's going to go after Rick for putting Negan in prison? I'm so effing tired of the wishy washy people. I mean it's one thing if they change their mind over a season, but in the same damn show?

Too bad AMC is penny pinching at this moment. How awesome would it have been to see Rick and his crew duck down after shooting a bunch and try to bring the walkers up to kill Negan's crew. If they are going to make a cheap as show then get it back to just a small set of people and make it a better story.

If that ending was their setup for the new bigger narrative, I'm 100% out.
I think you all are reading a little too much into "we will show them" .. No way Daryl, Maggie and especially Jesus kill or attack Rick and thier group... 95% sure they will kill Negan to "Show them"..

Then again........... Maybe they have plans for a spin-off with Maggie as a villain taking over control of everything.

Might explain the reasoning she still isn't signed for next year as they work out the details..........  :oldunsure:

Best part of last night was the double cross by Eugene. Oh, and the smack across the face he received for the vomit. :)

The "war" ended, but the Final "battle" scene left a LOT to be desired... Could have at least had some fighters battle Rick and his group at the decoy setup.
They knew Rick and his group would go there, even planted a Map on on of the guys. Could have added a lot to the finale by having a small battle, maybe kill off at least one of the main characters, to setup the final showdown.

Instead, a bunch of red shirts die, the rest surrender and no Main characters, other then Rick hurting his hand on glass, get injured..

Hopefully the change of show runners, plus the time jump next season, will give this show a jump start like it seems to have done, based on post here, for FTWD.

I agree, might not get to that, but they tried to make it look sinister and I can even imagine the director telling them to sneer as they said their lines. It was just a comical scene that wasn't supposed to be comical.

I'll probably continue FTWD for the rest of this season, but I think I am done. That ending with the quote about bigger narratives is just not where the show needs to go. I don't know the comics, so maybe they follow that story line. I just think the smaller group where people you care about actually die (like Travis who was basically Rick at that point) and you follow them actually living in a zombie apocalypse. In TWD, we see a giant horde, but it's like it doesn't matter. You can have a gun fight within earshot and it's ignored. I miss the days of the farm scene with the barn burning and horde destroying everything. They did that at the camp in FTWD. It's nice to remember that while single zombies are easy, there shouldn't really be any permanently safe spots. There should be a lot more zombies at this point than people.

 I think a "bigger" narrative is what this show needs.. after 8 seasons, it is time to get away from the Rick vs. some evil group and get to a "rebuilding" of society.

You could point out something wrong/stupid with almost every scene in the show last night.  The whole Dr. Evil way of telling everyone the elaborate plan of what is going to happen and then this stupid elaborate setup crap is so old, they've been doing it over and over.  They really put a t-shirt over a hay bail and wrote ricks name on it so they could test 5 bullets?

I guess we’ll disagree because the show’s gotten worse because of that. They still think the viewers are so in love with the characters that the main people can’t be killed. We’ll just move on to the next Negan or even worse one of our loves will turn into Negan, which seems like the implication of the last scene.

If it goes big but we get some carnage, cool, but Negan went from smushing Glenn’s skill in to not killing anyone but Simon who was the only one trying to do what Negan decided to do at the end. I enjoyed the team on the run, simple things like the bridge scene where they were out of bullets so they planned on how to kill a herd pushing them off the edge. The trough scene with the kid that Rick and Carol met at Terminus.

The more I think about the episode, the funnier it gets.  Remember the assault on the prison?  The hand-to-hand combat, the gun battles, people hidden in the guard tower, the truck full of zombies and having them interspersed with Rick and the Governor's people.

Last night was more along the lines of:

"How much money do we have in the budget?  10 bucks?  Ok, everyone!  Take this cap guns and line up on top of that hill.  When I yelled 'Action!', everyone fire their gun and fall down.  And let's get this right, people!  We can only afford one round of caps!"

Just read an article on yahoo (from some other source) saying a major problem of the show is the stakes are getting smaller not bigger as the show moves along.

And I think he's right - working towards rebuilding a society is the goal - which is anti-climactic.

I think the "throat slash" was pulled from the comics, but agree that wasn't a very good ending to the war.  I'm fine with Eugene sabotaging the bullets - coulda just had them all misfire and have some good hand to hand combat scenes (Rick's crew has to be low on bullets too, right?  They don't have a factory going that we saw).  Why would they just run into a wide open field - they haven't reverted to 1700's flintlocks/war strategies....
The Maggie end scene made no sense, it's not very believable that they would turn on Rick. If they were talking about going in to kill Negan - thats more believable, but that isn't clear.

I really agree.  Makes zero sense that Jesus would be in on a revenge plot over something like that.

I wonder if they will "show them" by letting Negan go once healthy to see if he goes back to his old ways.  I can't imagine they would kill or harm Rick and Michonne but it feels like they went out of their way to make us think that.  Crappy writing as always.

Why was Dwight wearing a big A on his T-shirt at the battle scene?  I assume it had something to do with the scarlet letter but why an A and not a T (traitor)?

Almost comical that the two people Maggie grabbed were one of the most peaceful guys who told Morgan how to use his stick to not kill people and the guy who let Dwight go to find his wife. Almost like the writers don’t read what they wrote in the same episode.

Exactly. I was out on this show a few seasons ago but my wife still likes it so I'm still along for the ride. These are the types of things that drive me crazy.

Also, we've only seen FTWD seasons 1 & 2, but is there a time jump or something in Season 3 to now have Morgan crossover? At the end of Season 2 it seemed like only a few months passed from the pilot (which itself took place before TWD starts.)

I'd have to go WAY back to watch the "why" and I am not about to torture myself that way ;) but....

That was what they did with "prisoners" .. Daryl wore the same sweatshirt with a "A" on it when he got captured by Negan.

it's funny that I haven't even seen the finale yet, but yet I'm reading this thread. at this point, I have no qualms of spoiling anything for myself. I just assume it will be stupid.

It was done exactly for what is happening in this thread.. Get people to talk during the off season about Maggie, Daryl and Jesus becoming "Judas" (see what I did there? ;) ) ..

And I agree, no need to make people think Maggie, Daryl and Jesus are going to attack Rick.
But that is one of many reasons the Show runner was given his "promotion"..

yes there is a large time jump from end of season 3 to beginning of season 4.  Day 64 jumps to at least Day 794.

I looked it up.  It just stands for "A hole"

FTWD Season 4 started last night and yes, there is a Time jump... Much like TWD will have a time jump next season..

I gave up on FTWD after season one as I hated almost every aspect of it. But set the DVR to record last nights premiere as the Time jump, and the move to Texas has me intrigued more then Morgan joining it.

Season 1 in LA was not good. I remember posting about it because they time jumped the beat freaking part. Not doing the how’d it start in TV show form was a big miss. They could have built a nice base instead of now it just being better than TWD because that has gotten bad. That said FTWD found a footing and got better. There are still close to cringy moments but I like the characters better. They are who they are and they don’t keep changing/doing things completely out of character.

Was that walker supposed to be Dwight that Morgan came across on the road and buried?

I started watching the finale and fell asleep. I woke up to Rick slashing Negan's throat. I saw everything after that. I am guessing I did not miss much, correct? I will take cliff notes if necessary.

Eugene sabotage of all the ammo so it would explode in their chambers. Ended the war immediately.

I just watched it to see the two parts regarding the dude in the Jeep. It's just a dude. But for sure it's the same Jeep and the same dude, clothes match.

Actually looks like Andrew Lincoln made a guest appearance as this guy, at least as the zombie version. Looks like him with lots of makeup
