Shane has consistently underestimated Rick and it ultimately proved fatal.
When Rick asked ####### Shane (rhetorically) if Shane was gonna replace him with his wife and kids, or something like that, Shane said "They'll get over it, they did once before." Ooh, another dumb thing from the dumbest of them all. I certainly understand the people who think Shane is a great character for the dramatic tension he has brought to the show but danged if I understand you folks who think the character was in any way laudible. He was the moron's moron.
He said a lot of things worth getting killed for but the one that did it for me is when he said "You got a weak boy". As a parent myself, don't go there with someone's kid. You can actually see Rick's face change right after when he closes his mouth and his head tilts down. Great piece of writing there since it recalls what Rick said about himself being weak as boy. Game over, Shane.

I was under the impression that the final scene, as Rick sat on top of dead Shane, he was waiting for him to turn to make sure it was true and then kill him. The little ##### Carl ruined it again by showing up and Rick went from badass Rick to ##### Rick with feelings trying to console his kid and explain what happened. Carl got more stones than Rick at this point, boy growing up to be a stone cold killer.
 If Rick knew this then why didn't he tell Shane when they found the zombie security guards with no scratches, seems like a valuable pieces of information; I could understand not telling everyone because some people might see it as a reason to give up - but not Shane.
And I would counter that Rick hasn't trusted Shane for a while so he didn't tell him. We can go back & forth all we want, doesn't really matter now.Question I had from last night, where the hell did all the zombies come from? I get the occasional walker wandering onto the property but if the woods was that full of them no freaking way I'd be staying at the farm. Also how where that many of them just hanging out when there was a fresh meal a few hundred yards away?
i had the feeling they were pretty isolated by a few miles. why would walkers be wandering unless they were lured there. it sounds like the walkers will become trees until provoked so no idea why they would be that far deep into the forest..doesnt make much sense
I was wondering where they all came from as well. There looks to be a hundreds of them.
Atlanta is a HUGE city and once the food supply runs out then they would start to wander, I could see the woods around Atlants being full of zombies - but maybe something like a swamp or a riverbed keeping some places safe for awhile.

I guess so, but they had been acting like they were going to be able to raise familys at the farm.

Not buying into the suicide thing. At all.And regarding that scene, Shane had no problem reaching for Ricks gun when Rick went to hand it over.Interesting theory, but I am doubting that one pretty big time.

I don't think the RV scene with Andrea and Glenn was about them bowchikawowwow'ing.

It was merely symbolism or whatever, regarding Dale and how they were the closest to him, and how Dale was the one who was known for fixing/tinkering with the engine, but now it will be Glenn, etc...

The "human element", and showing emotions and all that crap.
Flapgreen was hoping a zombie would pop out of the hood.

How long until they rot down to walking skeletons?

I guess a somewhat logical explanation of the many zombies seemingly out of no-where could be attributed to the zombies being lured by sound. Out of the few weeks the group has been there, there have been multiple instances of loud sounds/fires. Maybe each time the zombies got closer to the farm, then the sound/fire died down and the zombies then kind of stayed put, but got closer each time there was sound. Finally they got close enough and that's where we are now.
I guess. But you would think they would have noticed about a 1000 zombies hanging out at some time.
You forgot, eagle eye Dale is dead.

I think it's possible that deep deep deep deep down Shane may have wanted Rick to kill him but his primary motivation was to kill Rick. It's been there all along. He's wanted Rick out of the way from the moment Rick arrived at the camp.

That's not very many shooters against the oncoming horde.
Not sure I follow you. Am I missing someone?
None that I can think of, that looks pretty complete. I was merely musing over the roster and the group's current defensive capabilities. They just lost two gun hands, including their best one, right when they need all the firepower they can get.

The minute the shot was fired and that zombie turned its head I thought two things:

1. How in the world did the zombie realize where the shot was coming from? When you shoot in the outdoors, its usually pretty difficult to determine the origination of a shot.

2. What a great final episode it would be if the other group of 30 people came across the farm just as the zombies arrived. What an awesome rumble that would be.

In any case, I believe Hershel has drunk his last whiskey.

And Shane seemed absolutely shocked when Rick stabbed him. No, I think Shane was just ####ed in head and didn't know what to do. Rick was right that he wouldn't have been able to live with himself but he couldn't go on the way things were.

The horde of zombies is explained in the comics. I don't believe it to be any kind of spoiler. Some roamers will just be walking and other zombies will think that he knows where he's going and will just follow. They may meet other large groups and join up and just walk aimlessly until something (a gunshot) will give them focus and direction. It doesn't really have to be that their defenses are falling apart. They just attracted a large passing horde with the gunshot.
:goodposting: Just like the big horde that passed them on the highway back in season 1.

Ah I see. Yes I agree. Although if they can get set up and have enough ammo (something thats been hinted at that they don't have), they might be ok.Also, wonder if they will find Shane's stash of ammo?

Ah yes...exactly.

After working on setting up a platform on the windmill, did Shane move his car? He had the trunk opened up (where he stashed that ammo). And I am thinking that windmill comes into play in some way. Maybe someone will look down and see the ammo and go for it?

They have their defenses set up. They can sit in the barn loft with the doors wide open and kill them as they come in.
They might not have enough ammo, and as hinted a few times, they probably don't. They will have to go with shovels, pitchforks, etc..., at some point.

The pitchfork up through the chin was a nice kill.

I was just thinking of that with extreme approval.Still, to have to go all medieval in the coming fight is gonna make the disparity in numbers even more important. Plus, a couple of people who may be able to shoot might not be spry enough or strong enough to battle with garden implements. It won't exactly be Braveheart.

And what's with them saying "stick around for the first commercial break of this horrible comic book show and you'll see a new preview for next week's The Walkign Dead??

I watched 15 minutes of that wretched show to see it, and it was the same ####### preview I had seen earlier.

The previews are usually a little bit more. Mrs. SB complained about this also. I usually watch the comic book show anyway.

Not sure if anyone has watched the Webisode's but I just started watching them.. Don't worry, no spoilers to the T.V. show.. at least not yet.

Episode 3 of season 2 ...

WoW, never thought that the number 2 character in the show would get axed. Interesting to see where the show goes from this point. Hopefully the kid gets taken out.

but they also specifically showed quick cut closeups of zombies faces, teeth, eating things, etc. as Rick stared at Shane's body. To me that definitely signifies he was thinking that Shane was coming back
I thought this was more about a process going on inside Shane than about Rick.
At this point I think everyone except Buckna saw it as what was going on inside of Shane, not what Rick was thinking.
Hehehe, thought everyone was messing with me posting the same thing over and over. FWIW I can definitely see that interpretation, but that wasn't how I saw it.

So Carl was pointing the gun at his father before Shane got up, right?
looked like it to me...
looked like it but that could have just been the camera angle. I think Carl saw Shane having movements that they didn't show on screen, so they could create the impression and tension that Carl was aiming at Rick, while he was really pointing the gun at Shane. It didn't seem like Carl moved the gun to the side, like he would have to if he was taking aim off Rick to Shane.

He definitely was, pissed that dad killed his buddy Shane. And I'm pretty sure he meant to shoot his father, but missed and killed zombie Shane instead. At this point I think the kid would be happier with a zombie Shane as his father.
I think Carl was pointing the gun at Rick but when Shane rose he shot him instead. I don't think Carl missed his target.

I agree to some extent much like how someone pointed out the "herd" on the highway in the first episode. But that final shot pretty much showed them coming out of the woods just over the hill which is right by the house. Considering how safe they had been up until now and how much noise they had made in the past I figured they had had plenty of zombies going by the farm but that the river/swamp/ravines around had kept the zombies out. There was a line earlier in the season from Maggie about all the nearby farms being either burned out or overrun with Walkers. Plus the farm wasn't all that far from the highway. Maybe this is the same herd that was out on the highway and as someone said, they've been getting closer all the time with no one realizing?

Well, Rick pleads with Carl saying "It's not what it seems, please" It seems as if Rick saw the gun pointed at him.

Carl was pointing the gun even before zombie Shane got up. So obviously he was pointing it at Rick at one point.
Or he was holding the gun in position to shoot Shane once he stood up. It would be much easier for Carl to shoot Shane when he's standing up and walking towards him since the head isn't moving much. It would be much harder for Carl to track Shane's head as he rose. And with the odd camera angle I think they did it just to give the impression that he was aiming at Rick. Personally, the way they filmed it looked off, seems like Carl's shot would have missed from the angles they showed.

I guess. But you would think they would have noticed about a 1000 zombies hanging out at some time.
This is what I was eluding to earlier. How do you have that many roaming the woods and not know it?
Well if the horde is travelling in a certain direction (and not just "hanging out" in the woods), they could have arrived that day. The group was obviously busy doing other things that day, so it's reasonable that they didn't go into a few acre section of woods.

Carl had the gun pointed at Rick initially. Not hard to think a 'weak' kid would be scared seeing his dad with blood all over on top of dead and bloody Shane. For all Carl knew his dad had been turned into a Walker.

T-Dog's line on seeing the hoard should be "We're going to need a bigger moat."

Rick will survive the next episode. All he has to do is run faster than Carl.

Yeah. Even at zombie speed, a herd could still cover a good 15-20 miles a day, since they never have to sleep. I doubt the group is scouting that far out on a regular basis.

Let me stress with the utmost urgency. If you do NOT want next week spoiled, do NOT click on the following synopsis of next week. I'm a sucker for spoilers. I always hate reading them afterwards. But this one is a DOOZY. Can't wait for Sunday.

Shot opens in Atlanta: a group of walkers are feasting on what looks like Rick's horse, or what's left of it, when they're startled by the sound of a helicopter flying overhead. The horde migrates over several days, weeks, a great distance, and eventually comes to a fence. The fence bows and breaks under the relentless forward motion of the walkers. The herd presses on. Wandering aimlessly in the forest, the walkers turn as a gunshot goes off like a beacon, leading them to dinner. Soon they are closing in on Rick and Carl, as they leave the scene of Shane's murder.

Daryl and Glenn arrive back at the farmhouse. They explain that they heard a gunshot, and share their confounding findings about Randall. As they walk back to the house, Carl asks Rick about what happened to Shane. Soon after, they notice the walkers bearing down on them, and it's not long before they are overtaken and have to make a run for the barn.

Back at the house, the rest of the survivors are just figuring out that Carl is missing and walkers are approaching. Lori is panicking. Hershel passes out the guns. The horde is making quick work of the barn. Rick dumps gasoline everywhere, busts open the door to lure the zombies inside, and climbs up to the loft with Carl. Carl drops a lighter into the gasoline-soaked hay, igniting everything in sight.

Meanwhile, the men and Andrea shoot from their cars in a futile attempt to corral the herd and buy time. Finally, Daryl figures out that Rick and Carl must be in the barn, and instructs Jimmy to drive the RV to the barn to rescue them. Rick and Carl manage to barely escape, while Jimmy is devoured inside the RV. Blood is everywhere, coating the windshield.

The survivors are starting to run out of ammo. The horde is too large. The women hold hands and make a run for it as Hershel makes a last stand for the farmhouse. They are just about clear when Patricia is attacked from the side and is devoured while Beth is still holding onto her. Carol is headed off by a few walkers and backed into a corner with nothing but a plank of wood to defend herself. Andrea saves her but is attacked from behind and gets pinned under a walker. T-dog pulls his car around, but quickly has to leave the scene with Beth and Lori before the car is overtaken.

Glenn tells Maggie that the farm is lost; they have to get off the farm, now. Hershel comes to the same realization, almost too late, as a walker sneaks up from behind. Rick saves Herschel and they along with Carl head out in their own direction. Glenn and Maggie take off as well. Daryl finds Carol about to collapse from running, and they speed off together on Daryl's motorcycle. Andrea is abandoned. The barn collapses into the flames. And we're not even halfway done.

The group is now scattered. Glenn and Maggie switch places in the car as Maggie breaks down and can't continue driving. Glenn says they need to make their way to the highway, but Maggie protests that the herd came from that direction. Glenn finally tells Maggie that he loves her. Rick, Carl, and Hershel arrive at the highway, where they left the care package for Sophia, hoping that the others will think to rendezvous here. Hershel is ready to part ways, but Rick wants to stick together.

Lori and T-Dog argue over where to drive. T-Dog wants to head to the coast, but Lori threatens to jump out of the car if he doesn't turn around and go back to the highway. A walker appears on the highway. Rick is about to give up on waiting any longer, but… in the nick of time, the other survivors arrive. Time for a head count:

Shane - dead

Andrea - missing

Patricia - taken by the walkers

Jimmy - splattered all over the RV

Meanwhile, Andrea is running for her life in the woods, but the walkers pursue her tirelessly. She can't keep this up for long. Walkers are emerging from the trees in random directions as Andrea shoots to clear a path. The survivors leave the highway, pushing onward, but soon run out of gas. Several people start to panic and are on the verge of giving up. Rick tries to pull everyone together.

The conversation turns to Randall and Shane. Rick has to come clean. He reveals that the secret Jenner whispered to him at the CDC was that everyone is a carrier of the infection. The group is not happy that Rick has kept this from them. Lori and Rick talk privately. Rick tells her what went down with Shane, and confesses that it wasn't just self-defense… he wanted Shane dead, he was tired of Shane dogging him and acting like Rick stole Lori and Carl from him. Lori freaks out when she finds out Carl's role in Shane's death and withdraws from Rick, refusing to let him touch her.

Andrea is exhausted. This is the end of the line. She can't carry her gun-bag any longer, her pistol is out of ammo -- she bashes in a walker's head with it -- now she's down to knives, another walker practically on top of her… enter Michonne to save Andrea at the last minute, towing two armless walkers in chains, samurai sword in hand.

The rest of the survivors set up camp in the middle of nowhere. They may have found each other again amid the chaos, but the group is still broken. Many are ready to run off into the dark and leave Rick behind, fend for themselves. They are on the verge of splitting up again, when Rick takes back control... he says they're not going anywhere; he killed his best friend for them. This isn't a democracy anymore.

The camera pans up… in the distance looms a prison facility.

End of Season 2.

Couldn't resist, looks fantastic. Where did you get this?
