I wonder why they didnt make mention of the swamp earlier that caught the walkers? That was a huge plot hole for me and they kindof alleviated it during those couple of scenes.

I thought about that, too, and all I could come up with is that he figured he only needed to keep them out of the barn for a few more days and then they'd be hitting the road.

Very mediocre episode and a flop when considering this is supposed to hold us over until Feb.
A few points that I did not like.
The confrontation in front of the barn about what to do about the walkers in there (not the final scene of the episode), but it seemed so forced. Insulting Daryl about his redneck ears and saying that Sophia would run if she saw him.
Dale should have shot Rick plain and simple, at that point why is Shane worth anything; he is like having a pit bull in the end he is more trouble than he is worth.
A few points that I did like.
Finally some shooting zombies.

Shane just proved to be right the entire time, and he's obviously the best leader for this group since he apparently is the only one willing to put emotions aside and look at things logically. If he hadn't finally just grabbed the bull by the horns, the rest of these meatheads would still be risking life & limb in the woods looking for a girl who was obviously (un)dead.

Shane's mentality reminds me of Wolverine. You can't have him lead the X-men but when all hell breaks loose he's good to have around.
In the Talking Dead episode that followed, Kirkman indicated that Hershel likely didn't know that Sophia was in the barn as it had been the responsibility of Otis to round up the walkers that became stuck in the swamp

My exact thoughts. Soon as huckleberry said "It happened again" and they wrangled the walkers I should've realized that not all the barn walkers were their relatives. Still, it's been so damn long since we've seen her that I wasn't sure if it was her or not. Great episode. Glad I stuck around.

I don't see it. When Wolverine's with the group he'll fight and die (as if!) with/for the group. Shane's like Wolverine when Wolverine is alone, but Shane doesn't play well with others. Almost feel bad for him. Everything went to hell but he finally got what he wanted. Then it all got ripped away from him again. Now that she's one of the last women on Earth, her appeal has to have improved. However, what I can't figure out is why 2 guys wanted to be around Lori in the first place. Nothing attractive about her whatsoever.

As someone that can rarely watch the show when it airs, I know better than to enter this thread until I have watched the episode. I do the same for any show thread (or book/movie thread) that may have spoilers. Once it has aired, I always figure it's fair game for posting about.

I don't know why (since it seems so obvious now) but I was completely surprised to see Sophia in the barn. I guess I just assumed it was their relatives/neighbors and even with the swamp scene it didn't click that...Oh, they might have found Sophia first. I thought it was a little out of character that Shane didn't just kill her, but it was more dramatic to have Rick do it.

Well except for wanting to leave a safe, comfortable farm for a military base where as we've seen in every other post-apocalyptic tv/movie it never turns out well.

Shane is the most corruptible person in the group. If he was in charge of things, the others would be in as much danger from him as they would from zombies.

They've really veered off the path from the comic. In the comic Sophia is one of the few of the originals left alive in issue 91 (along with Rick, Carl, the blonde and the Asian kid). Heck, Shane died before issue 10. Guess they're trying their best to make it 'their' show and not Kirkmam's.

Outstanding episode. This season just keeps getting better and better. The show is really hitting its stride. The massacre scene was outstanding (great role reversal and nod to George Romero with the humans becoming the monsters at the end and the monsters being the victims) and the big reveal was great. Makes sense that Sofia was dead and I for one am glad they led us along with her situation given how incredible the payoff proved to be.
It's going to suck waiting until February for new episodes.

Really? They are flesh eating zombies, not sure how much more monstrous you could get other than installing lasers on their heads. Juuuust a bit over the top there chief. They needed to be put down, is there a more humane way to accomplish that then what Shane & the crew did?

I disagree. That's one of the best parts about Romero's "Dawn of the Dead" - how he flipped the roles and turned the humans into the monsters who were slaughtering the zombies. Kirkman and another of the Exec Producers even talked about this on "The Talking Dead" after the show about how they wanted to bring in some humanity to the zombies during that massacre scene. I think it worked. Did the zombies have to be put down? I think they did. But I also saw the blood lust involved with the group lining up as a firing squad to slaughter them. That moment was all about anger, hatred and rage (led by Shane) more so than it was merely about survival.

From a critical review you're probably right. I'm looking at it as if I was one of the folks there, I'd kill every mother loving one of them and not blink an eye. The ####ers are trying to eat you, NO HUMANITY FOR YOU!

Blondie may be getting set up as the one who has to choose. Maybe she pulls the trigger after Rick is unable to. Somebody else put it awesomely earlier. Shane is the guy you really want to be on your side until he shoots you in the leg.He needs to die for the good of the group. Probably blondie too.

Serious question: Has Shane done anything bad (that we know of) that can't be explained? I mean sure he was nailing Bad Hair Sheriff Wife but he thought her husband was dead. And the thing with Otis, as terrible as we might see it, some might consider justified.

The sex thing was no big deal unless, of course, his heightened sense of survival leads him to future ill deeds because of his base animal desires. And that's the thing about Shane -- he's already decided that all of the old rules and all of the old moralities no longer apply. He'll take what he wants and worry about rationalizing it less and less as time goes on.If he ever achieves the leadership, he will seek no counsel from others, brook no dissent and tolerate no separation attempts. Not only will he lead them to disaster, he'll also be increasingly despised for his tyranny along the way. And he won't care as long as he comes out of it with his own hide and a woman or three.

Dale was right, thatthis is Slater's world. Slater and Zack have a good yin and yang. Zach goes too far off the deepend wit sacraficing and gambling for the good, while Slater, left to his own devices can be really hardcore alpha male. I can see that as cops, they must have made a good team. I can see Screech starting to grow a set now...no more being mere walker bait.

I don't think at the time that he had become the Ultimate Survivor yet. In one of the flashbacks it hinted at a developing relationship between Shane and Lori, whether it was consummated or not wasn't clear. Then he may have exaggerated Rick's demise, though it's not out of bounds that believing Rick to be dead was unreasonable. Still, they made it appear as if Shane was less than truthful about Rick's condition.

It just doesn't seem likely. I teach middle school. Most 12 year old girls can't get out of the way of a dodgeball.Pretty easy to think of tons of scenarios if it was just her and one walker (likely case with her wandering in the woods). Walkers aren't super human and often can just be half a body. She is pretty small so she could get bit and somehow squeeze through the woods or bush, etc. If it were in Atlanta or at the school like Otis, once you get bit chances are there is no escape. In the woods, easy to think up a scenario where she gets bit and runs away without getting mauled.Also, great episode. Looking forward to the restart in February. I was surprised by Sophia, mainly because I was definitely not thinking they put random walkers in there, just the people in their cell phone circles.

Just to echo all the comments above, since I spent tons of time in the Lost threads, content from the show aren't ever spoilers. Once an episode airs, everything in it is fair game and people knew to stay out of the thread until the watched it on DVR. For TWD, I would say only things in the comics or if they have spoiler sites like Lost did would be things to put into spoilers.
