Well I'm deep into the comics and it hasn't been covered but I would guess the goal would be to find an antidote to the disease. Or an immunity. Unlike in the comics, this is now common knowledge. It'll be interesting to see how it's handled.

Ever since I got spoiled Shane got killed off in the comics, and then got spoiled because people decided it was cool to tell us about two upcoming characters who also play a similar role to the TV show's Shane, I knew he'd die. I agree his role is needed and it will be filled... hopefully by a better actor.Does anyone still think Rick put a bullet in the fat guy's head to keep him from coming back as a zombie? It was a kill shot, and in rapid succession to the two, non-fatal shots he put in his torso. Glad that is now put to rest as he would've done the same to Shane tonight. Most likely, the CDC guy told Rick about Lori's blood test showing she was pregnant. I'm sure they could put a twist in way down the road if they never cover it, but it seems that's the answer right now. I could only see two things a blood expert might feel the need to tell Rick at that point, and one theory is now totally debunked.Awesome episode. Darabont was all wrong for this show, and it's totally clear now. The wrap-up of this season has been tremendous after a terrible first half, and hearing about his thwarted, other ideas, I'm glad the constrained his "creativity."This is some bull####!!! Shane keeps this freaking show balanced. How freaking stupid are these people? Kill Shane? You have to be kidding me!

Right, didn't he mention something about time being involved? I might have inferred.Shane died quickly and immediately became a zombie. Andrea's sister died pretty slowly, and took a while to come back. I'm not saying that's it because we don't have any sort of sample size, and now, the show is moving at very brisk pace compared to the point when the sister got bitten. We didn't have time to sit around for 30 minutes of this episode waiting on Shane to turn.

For everyone that said this was a show about characters, blah, blah blah. To me, it's clear that the show turned a corner in the second half. They put people in charge that knew how to balance it for all fans. It's been night and day, imo. It doesn't have to be zombie attack 24/7 but stop with the preaching and get to some tension and action. So much better in the second half and I look forward to season 3.

There was plenty of time to do things right. He was sitting there crying for about 10 minutes at least I'd guess before Carl found him. If he had that knowledge, he wouldn't have risked allowing time for Shane to turn.Also, if Rick had that knowledge, he wouldn't have considered hanging Randall in last weeks episode. Remember he was in the barn's loft and Lori sees the noose he's making and asks if he thought hanging was the best way to go. If he had the knowledge mentioned in the spoiler, hanging wouldn't have been an option.

Like Shane said in the woods, they couldn't just pretend he didn't try to kill Rick. It sucks that news of Bernthal being cast on Darabont's new show essentially spoiled what was going to happen with Shane, but it was still an outstanding scene anyway. I'll miss Bernthal and Shane but they couldn't build toward this moment and have it end any other way.

Glen Mazzarra, they guy who took over for Darabont, was the show runner for The Shield.

Not sure it was right away but they did not give us a time lapse or anything either. For show purposes it was right away but in real time I'm not sure how "right away" it was.

I'll give some credit--as much as I rolled my eyes listening to Rick's "eulogy", he got it done in that scene. It was a good line and he delivered it well. The whole second half of the episode tonight was well directed with a lot of really spooky settings and creepy music.

I like how they turned what looked to be Shane just taking Randall out to be killed, and it turns out to be a big plan to kill Rick too.

We really don't. All we know is Carl heard a shot and eventually found him. I guess we'll see how close to the farm they are.

I didn't care for Rick's heart-to-heart with Carl. Saying he's tired. Basically said your mom and I won't be around for ever and you'll be on your own. Maybe he means you'll have to grow up now, no more childhood. That's ok. But saying I'm tired sounds like he's saying I'm about done fighting, so I'm going to die soon.

And, about the time it takes people to turn. We have seen Andreas sister turn, Shane turn and Jenner's wife turn (he explained how long it took her to turn). Now, Andreas sister and Jenner's wife were "good" people and not filled with vengeance (to assume here) while Shane was filled with some "trouble". Maybe the amount of time it takes to turn has something to do with the mental capacity of the person. Or, rather, has some relation in that way.

i completely agree with these. I think the CDC guy had to tell him something else, not sure what though. If it's Lori is pregnant, that will be goofy. Not sure what else he could tell him though. If he did tell him that everybody turns when they die, than it is f'd up Rick has kept this "secret" for so long, since it has almost cost a couple of people their lives

Have to say, heck of a shot by Carl. I don't remember the kid practicing shooting too much, if he was even allowed too (i know Lori didn't want him to learn how to use a gun). Will be nice if when the zombie apocalypse comes we all have such nice aim

Fantastic episode tonight, loved the TENSION. It had been missing for most of this season, especially first half of season 2. Just watched all of season 1 again this last week and this episode lived up to the stress the first season had.

No kidding. Rick killed Shane and very quickly we got clues he was turning. There isn't any reason to think this was a long process this time around. I'm most certainly not saying we learned some mechanic of this zombie apocalypse other than zombies coming from regular death, but we should assume this turn happened quickly.Thankfully no one has been dumb enough to argue the CDC whisper said it was about people turning without bites. Rick didn't have any idea of this until Carl just shot Shane, or else he would've put one in Shane's dome after killing him. That entire distraction is dead now, thankfully.

Also as I mentioned above, Rick wouldn't have contemplated hanging Randall in the previous episode.It is also possible that we'll never find out what was whispered at the CDC. It could be part of Darabont's storyline, the stuff that we're shown glimpses of in that trailer on the website, but the stuff never aired. The whisper could be insignificant with Darabont having left the show.
Shawn Ryan was show runner/creator for The Shield. Mazzarra was an executive producer and wrote 16 Shield episodes.

I still think the CDC guy told Rick about the infection but Rick thought he had time to scramble Shane's egg. Just think about - what could be so bad that the scientist would give up all hope and commit suicide?

It's still about the characters. All of this death may be fun for you to watch, but to the people making the show it's to see what it does to the characters.

I think it will be Hershel as well. He's not Dales replacement. He's old, no reason to leave the farm and will go defending it. Question is, who kills Hershel? I say Glen.Also gives Maggie and others used to the farm to leave as well. The core group has lost a few people, bout time they replenish some. And, they need to find another kid for Karl.

See, I took that a completely different way. While tore up over his death, he took this as a way to test the theory that he hadn't had the luxury of testing. Unfortunately, Carl had to come running out to "help", but I did like the little homage to the comics there. But it seemed like he was waiting around to see if Shane really was going to turn, and was ready to put him down for good if so until Carl showed up. The hanging would have been the test but maybe he decided not everyone was ready to know this yet, as it would kind of suck the hope out of you. But regards the hanging I think they were just going through the different ways of killing him.I do believe everyone is infected, and I think the writers have been making that very clear for the last 2 or 3 episodes. In light of that, I think it's pretty safe to say that was what the CDC guy whispered to Rick and why he committed suicide.

No need for spoilers now.. Everyone is infected, you just have to die to become a "Walking Dead". GREAT show tonight.. Next weeks finale should satisfy those that want this to be a Zombie killing fest show.

When rick had the his back to Shane and Shane was pointing the gun at him it had the "Old Western Movie" feel.. Felt they were going to have a good old shoot out to end it once and for all.

there is always the outside chance a cure will be found. Until then you do whatever it takes to survive and make sure anyone who dies gets a "head shot".
