Your first statement is probably correct. I never read the comics or anything and have no clue. I just know what I was hoping to see and this last episode wasn't it. I understand most folks are probably digging the shift. I'm just not one of them. No biggie. If it ends up going the direction I fear it will, then I'll just take it off the DVR schedule and move on to something else. I was catching up on the DVR. The episode after the birth of the baby was so absurd, I just deleted all episodes and canceled the series. This is nowhere near the show I started watching in S1. The scene where Rick is just smashing zombies in a fit of rage and black ninja let's those zombies outto ninja slash them...ugh was that bad.

In his defense, in the comic he was porking andrea, not surprised that they removed that from the show, but I was very disappointed they killed him off way too early imo.Favorite character in the comic, imo the best actor on the show. Another awesome episode. Super intense. This showdown looks like it's going to be awesome. I loved the bass-heavy music they used at the end.
As I understand it, the actor decided to leave the show so they had to kill him off.

I have my first nitpick in series history:
Merle calling Maggie "the farmer's daughter." How could he have known that? He hadn't talked to her yet and she surely wasn't going to tell him that nor was Glenn. That was a pretty correctable mistake they let slip in.
Overall a great episode. The tension was off the charts everywhere. LOVED the music at the end. Thunderous pulsating beat just amped up the tension even more. Cannot wait for Rick and the Governor to get face to face.
Oh and nice thong Andrea.

Merle shot at you and took you prisoner. Safe to say he's up to no good. Why invite that into your home? Plus Glenn knows Merle's unhinged to begin with and he knows the history he has with Rick. No reason to intentionally allow your friends to be introduced to that, especially with a baby there now.

He may have been assuming from knowing Glenn and from what Andrea told him (maybe she said Glenn was hooking up with the farmer's daughter, etc.) It jumped out to me as well right away, and while I was able to find potential explanations, it did seem like sloppy writing to have that in there at all. I don't have a problem with Merle calling her a farmer's daughter. He showed his racism (not that the farmer's daughter comment was racist) when he made the comment about T-dog, and then when he brought in the zombie to eat Glenn he said the zombie would be hungry again in an hour... a shot at Glenn being Asian. Racist, or at least stereotypical from Merle. So it could be that he just called her a farmer's daughter because she looked like one. He could have also called are the "girl next door", or something. I didn't think it took away from the scene.

Like nearly all of the nitpicks I've seen about this show it wasn't. Just jumped out at me because it was sloppy writing and so I thought I'd join the dark side and complain about something for a change.

My only complaint about the episode was the Michonne/Rick scenes when they brought her inside. Obviously the chick brought a basket of baby food for a reason. She's been shot, and is giving you info on your friends, yet Rick's reaction is to grab her wound to try to force more out of her? I get that Rick has sort of gone off the deep end, but that encounter just seemed forced to me. Michonne's wooden acting didn't help.
I'm excited to see where they leave things off in the mid season finale though.

I don't understand why the Gov hasn't killed Maggie and Glenn yet. He's got to know that Glenn will kill him the first instant he possibly can; these two will never integrate into their town.

The previews would seem to indicate he's pointing in that direction. There is a something to be said though about keeping them alive as possible bargaining chips. One of the grunts said that to Merle. They don't know what they're up against with the prison group. Merle knows who some of them are but for all he knows they could've rounded up a bunch of ex-Marines or soldiers to join forces with them. Having a couple of hostages around could come in handy.

Best part of that scene was when the decision was made to sacrifice the hermit so they could get away. I loved Oscar's "You gotta be kidding me" reaction.
