I'm not one of those people but I do think it's fair to say the initial buildup this season has been more subdued than the first 3 seasons. I think there's a reason for that and I'm not disenchanted, angry or #####ing. Just pointing out that the start of the season has felt slower. Still an amazing show and I love it.

I'd honestly have no interest in watching this show if all they did was fight off walkers every episode. One of the reasons why I enjoy the show so much is it isn't just about fighting zombies. To me, that would get old real quick. Although I think the pace to the start of this season has been the weakest of the seasons to date I like the fact they're introducing other threats which show how dangerous this world has become. Each season has essentially been about introducing new conflicts of some kind (Season 1 was just surviving; Season 2 was Shane and Season 3 was The Governor). If the walkers were the only threat I don't think the show would be near as good or anywhere near as popular as it's become.

I agree with pretty much everything in this post. Character development is vital. Otherwise, this would be like a video game. I don't mind the threat of this virus, but I don't think the execution of the episodes has been that great.

I can agree with this. Not the best execution, but zombie fighting all the time is a 2hour movie, not a TV show. Also, it would be damn boring if they were perfect at everything, i.e. they lock themselves in a 100% secure location in the prison with a full library/gameroom, solar power/LCD TVs and Netflix, access to a roof garden with every plant they could need for nutrition and health and they made sure the Governor was dead before they locked themselves inside and they have solar powered zombie attractors line up from every side of the prison leading any zombie down the road to Atlanta.

I agree with that to a point. Again, I'm not asking for balls to the wall action for 60 minutes every episode. That isn't realistic. And I am aware (and stated previously) that Gimple's approach differs from Darabont and Mazzara's. He's been one of the best writers on the show so I have plenty of patience to see where he's taking everything. But even though I knew and was fine with the pace of the season being more gradual to start it's been even more gradual than I anticipated. Hasn't sucked or stunk or anything like that but it has caught me off guard a bit.

Agreed, that is probably close a 2 hour trip in zombie land. That is a huge risk for your main protectors. Obviously, there are a lot of zombies there, so I would think if they started to get closer to that area, it was already pretty dense with zombies to the point that they probably avoided going there for random scavenging. The main point of scavenging is to stay alive and not take unnecessary risks. I would think at 40 miles, you would already start seeing signs of more zombies where it becomes too risky.

Never mind.. he is on a roll.. If he had it his way there would be no flu, people would be sleeping comfortably in their jail cells with the cells locked, thus no worries of anyone dieing and changing. There would be moats all around the Prison thus no worries on Zombie herds or anyone else attacking.. The season would be about farming, relationships and possibly some singing.

It isn't even that. The first show was 30 days without an accident, so the point was to start it with complacency, which by its definition would be slow. They didn't start it with "Terrier at the Vet."

That's really the problem with this show, is that the writers just aren't very good at writing compelling dialog. There's no reason the scenes without zombies have to be boring... but they usually are.

Don't misunderstand. I have no problem with the progression or pace of the show. I am certainly not in the nit-picking camp in this thread. I think they could have made a couple tweaks in what was going on during episodes to serve both character development and action. For example, maybe getting Darryl's crew on the road a bit quicker. This is a minor thing for me and otherwise I have no complaints.

Seems like the premiere episode was done in part to show that everything they were doing was working in terms of building a new community. They had their food supply at the prison, they were out bringing back needed supplies. They even had a mini government working with a collective voice. Everything was working or strongly appeared to be. But now all hell has broken loose and they have to figure out a new way to survive. If you want to call them stupid for not seeing a potentially catastrophic plague coming their way in terms of a virus be my guest. Personally, I think that's reaching and nitpicking to the highest degree.

Don't misunderstand. I have no problem with the progression or pace of the show. I am certainly not in the nit-picking camp in this thread. They've been dropping subtle hints of a potential Rick-Michonne romance. That's gonna seriously piss of Beth.

I'm all for developing characters and was one of the few that liked the episodes on the farm. This virus story adds no drama to the show and it's completely transparent what they are trying to do. If Hershel dies from the virus he's the only character who matters to viewers who will have.

The drama the virus adds is that now the threat isn't just from the outside world. They had started to feel safe and now are faced with the reality there is no such thing as safe.

The drama of a key character (Glenn) suffering with this also adds to the sense of urgency in the mission Daryl is leading.

when the camera started to pan back showing us the zombie mob they started turning around towards the car in a wave effect. something was drawing them there

Quick question on the antibiotic issue. Who is going to make them? Wouldn't stuff on the shelves be stale dated (active ingredients no longer active). They don't last for years...

It has already been said they are going to be introducing 3 new characters soon, all from the comic books. They are all pretty interesting. And the big plot you guys want is building, it's only been 3 episodes. Have some patience people. I've never seen so many adults with the "I want it and I want it now" attitude than in this thread.

We've been spoiled by Breaking Bad, where the pace was unmatched by any TV show ever.

I'm not a pharmacist, but it depends on the antibiotic. Liquid antibiotics are one of the few drugs that don't keep well. Most are fine many years past their expiration dates.

All the date really means is that the manufacturer guarantees the potency for that long. It has nothing to do with actual shelf life.

3-4 months, but with some additives it would be fine for up to at least a year, with other factors involved.

Not sure of the exact time line. Most gas nowadays would be usable up to that point, but it would kill the car eventually. I am kind of interested to see if they ever address this issue.

Gas goes bad, but still works. It'll just hurt the engine. The good news here is that cars are pretty much like disposable lighters in this scenario.
