***OFFICIAL 'The Walking Dead' TV Series Thread*** (6 Viewers)

IMO, it's not going to be an army vs army thing... so massing arms isn't going to help. they will take out negan and get some help from the less sadistic dwight in the aftermath. all they need is one bullet, knife, sword... whatever.

 
Dwight's motivations seem to be all over the map. In the Dwight episode they seemed to paint him as conflicted. Then when Negan came to Alexandria he was back to being a d**k again. Are they going to go back to him being conflicted again? That'll be a tough sell after how much of an ahole he was with Rosita and Spencer.

He's only conflicted when Negan's whole gang isn't watching. He has to put on a show when they're doing their Savior thing.

Yeah, they went out on their supply run right after Rick and the group wacked Negan's group at the outpost. Heath was part of that. He was with Glenn when Glenn killed his first human and saw the pics of Lucille's victims on the wall. Right after all that, Tara and Heath left for their supply run. They've been gone ever since. About two weeks in the storyline on the show have passed. 

 
I'm fifteen minutes in and this may be the worst acting I've ever seen.  Just awful.  I just want to hit stop and delete.  Does. It. Get. Better? 

 
I can't figure out for the life of me why they don't do scene shifting from encampment to emcampment and spread the episodes amongst the different crews etc.  Are we so dense that we need to focus on one camp at a time?

They could learn a thing or two from how Game of Thrones shifts from several storylines within one episode smoothly. It can be done effectively. I still go back to my earlier post about combining this episode and the Dwight episode into one really strong episode as opposed to two boring ones.

I don't even care if they make it 2 episodes, but they can show what is happening at different locations at the same time so we have a continuity of what is going on when. There are a lot of little details that will come back laterin the season and I get it, but they don't have to have four episodes in a row of different folks at the same time.

I agree.  TWD does this all the time and it really isn't necessary in most cases and it has become tiresome.

Yeah it's becoming an issue. There's too much of a gap between episodes with the characters most people care about. This could be solved easily. Instead of devoting an entire episode to Dwight or Tara mix in some of the lead characters so we know what's happening with them. There's really no good reason not to be doing this. 

I think another problem is in terms of pacing. Two episodes ago the ending has Carl and Jesus in the back of the truck off to Negan's compound. Then this episode doesn't show them at all. Casual viewers may be wondering what in the hell is going on with an entire episode devoted to Tara and wondering what's going on with Carl. Will the next episode get back to that? I'm guessing it will but the pacing feels off as the storylines are bouncing all over the place. 

That's another reason why I would've combined the Tara and Dwight episode. Tara's episode easily could've gone earlier in the season. From a timing perspective it didn't have to go now; it could've easily have been placed right after the Negan kills so you combine this episode with the Dwight/Daryl one and you have one strong episode instead of two Meh ones and the pacing is much smoother.

Again, I appreciate what Gimple has tried to do with expanding the show's universe with all the new societies and everything but it's become a bit of an overreach and execution hasn't been as successful as the attempt suggested it could have been. Hopefully the two episodes before the mid-season finale and the back half of the season are a much tighter storyline than what we've seen thus far.

Don't need the tiger in every episode of the kingdom. Could easily have had Ezekiel in more episodes than one by now as well as Morgan and Carol.  

 
I have read the comics, so the source material is quality and better then the show. But I have not seen one person anywhere think this episode was even ok. I was wondering, do they have episodes like this to appease a certain demographic or fan of the show? They have 1 or 2 real duds each of the last 4-5 seasons, and there is real no reason for them (lol, just remembered "Vatos" from season 1 with the gangbangers and the old people).

I have seen Talking Dead, and with this show kind of being mainstream, do they dumb it down and make some terrible decisions (constant fake-outs with zombies like they did with Heath this episode, where every zombie was covered in sand except for one random straggler who just happened to look like Heath from a certain angle, constant teasing of possible character deaths when it was played out 4 seasons ago, etc.). this is the only reason I can see for these kinds of episodes to make it through everybody and be approved. that or budget issues (probably cheaper to have Rick only in 2 episodes of a season). Maybe they have just become so arrogant they know they can throw whatever they want and it will be fine because the viewers seem to keep coming back.

Rick makes $90,000 per episode.  The top 5 characters in Game of Thrones all top $500,000 per.

I'm hoping an episode like this will be easier to justify once we see the entire season and be able to look back at it in its entirety. Maybe then Oceanside will make sense in terms of what we learned about it and how it factored into the overall story arc for the season etc. But it is hard to look at it as a standalone episode and try to understand how it anyone could see it as being worthy of an entire episode. There just wasn't enough there to justify it. Tara and Heath aren't compelling enough characters in my opinion to give them much screen time (obviously Heath didn't end up getting much anyway). Once they left on their supply run we needed to find out what happened to them but a few minutes of screen time was enough to devote to them unless there's something huge planned for Oceanside later on that merited this much time given to them now.

Definitely been the oddest season of TWD to date.  

 
TWD has a bloated, overstuffed ego that empowers them to do cutesy artsy bull#### like this.

No one had the balls to tell them Tara couldn't carry a paper bag let a lone an entire episode. They do it every single season, split the seasons into mini seasons. Every year there are multiple episodes centering around one character no one gives a #### about, while ignoring the main storyline for weeks.

Seriously I would have never even noticed they were gone if they were never brought up again. Obviously other people would have but I'm not in that camp.  Now I am supposed to care if the black dude is still alive maybe? I'm not one to rip on this show because it is a stupid zombie show for the most part and I get that. but this episode was such a waste of time, and they even made it longer than normal!

That's fair. Saying we needed to find out what happened to them probably didn't apply to everyone. I get it. But they did leave so I think it's fair to say an explanation was required to find out what happened to them. Problem is they waited too long and I think you could make a good argument that casual fans had forgotten all about them and they probably had no clue who Heath was at all since he's such a minor character who they probably aren't invested in at all. And while I do like Tara for reasons I've already explained I've also said there's absolutely no reason to have devoted an entire episode to her. I'm guessing most of the responses to this episode would be in agreement to that. 

 
The only reason for devoting so much time for Oceanside, I would think, is to highlight the fact they: 1. have a ton of guns and 2. Negan does not know where said guns are as of now.

If there is going to be a rebellion at some point, it could not happen without an arsenal, and Oceanside now establishes there is a hidden cache of guns somewhere.  Of course, only Tara knows this right now, but you'd have to think the amount of weaponry they have will come into play at some point.

I don't know how all this is going to come together, but they are setting something up.  You have Jesus and Carl heading to find Negan, Dwight starting to show doubts and possibly teaming up with Darryl, Maggie and Sasha possibly coming into power at the Hilltop, the Kingdom wanting revenge and poisoning the food supply, some Alexandrians still pissed off and wanting to fight back, and a hidden community with a huge stash of weapons and a bone to pick.

All that being said, we did not need an hour of Tara, even with her Mom boobs :)

given the armory alexandria just coughed up, and the amount of weaponry they already have... and I said this earlier... I really don't think this is going to come down to who has more guns. the saviors will. and people. it has to be about somebody taking negan out- probably a ninja walker sneaking up over a floor full of bubble wrap. given that, this whole magical trip to the lost island of lesbos thing was... pointless.

 
Totally agree. The number of guns doesn't matter. They just need one.  Put a bullet in Negan and its over.

Even if every man, woman and child at Alexandria, The hilltop, the Kingdom and Oceanside has an AR15, I don't see how they're organizing and executing any sort of frontal assault against the Saviors. Hell, we don't even know the full size of Negan's force. We know there's other outposts and Negan's army is hardened and vicious. 

I know some people are sort of down on Negan, but his storyline fascinates me. In his little corner of the world, he's basically a god. But for all we know, there's a group of 5,000 ex-military living at Fort Bragg that could eat his group for lunch if they ever ventured too close. That's part of why I'd really like to see a Negan origins episode.   How did he get to this point? Does he know his limitations or does he truly think he's invincible?

That's a good point, although I didn't necessarily mean a straight assault from these surrounding factions on Negan and his men.  It really does come down to taking out Negan.  That being said, you can't show up to accomplish this with a bunch of sicks and homemade weapons either.  There has to be a reason for alerting us to the cache of weapons at Ocenaside... otherwise, why did the story even even go there at all?

I do think TLEF's idea of a Negan origin story is intriguing.  Would be great if they could somehow do this as a bonus episode without veering away from the current season.

You are leaving out the zombie kill of the week, their new method of just trying to come up with some new way to either show or kill a zombie per episode.

It is like you gave a special effects budget on a use it or lose it basis per episode to them.

to be honest, i wouldn't be surprised if they don't offer one until they figure out how best they can milk it or profit off of it. i wouldn't put them past another spin-off and this one come before fear the walking dead and be all about Negan.

Agreed but they clearly will play a big role in the upcoming war.

The showrunners are experts at triangulating and waiting for a (in their opinion) maximum impact on storylines. They know they have a weak soup main story, so they're padding so they can finish their midseason cliffhanger with Jesus/Carl/Negan.
