Not sure what to make of this episode. I really liked the structure of the episode - Featuring numerous members of the cast in mini story arcs. No idea why this hasn't been happening the entire season. I really liked this a lot. From what I understand the Negan-Carl stuff was almost entirely taken from the comics so I'm guessing the comic fans enjoyed all of that quite a bit. I really liked Michonne's plan although it sucks that when she gets to the Sanctuary Negan won't be there for her to confront him. But if we're lucky maybe she'll kill Dwight. I know he's supposed to be a big deal in the comics but I can't stand that guy so I'd love to see someone, anyone, take him out. Yeah we get it, Negan's banging his ex-wife and he's all mopey about it. Except when he's around Rosita. Then he's a major league ahole again.

Kinda fuzzy on what Rick and Aaron found is going to factor into the big storyline.

Overall I wasn't really wowed by the episode, though. I just feel like this season had so much potential and it hasn't been realized yet. Still time for it to happen but feels like all buildup and no payoff other than the premier.

Yea, that is basically what the show has been about since Episode one this season..

Every episode laying out the ground work to something, but they are taking so long to get there that I'm not sure if the payoff will equal the Buildup to the Season 2 payoff. :oldunsure:

he heard the walker sound, so he ran into the woods to see I think he wanted to kill something, then stumbled upon hunter guy in treestand

:goodposting: that was how I took it.. he watched Gabriel walk away, heard a noise in the woods and took off to find out what it was and found the hunter waiting above.

This season hasn't been near as good as Season 2. Nothing thus far compares to Shane offing Otis or even Daryl in the woods. So the build-up episodes aren't comparable. But for me, Season 2 is TWD Gold Standard season so hard for any season to equal that one and I don't consider a season a failure if it doesn't. I'm assuming something big will happen in the mid-season finale because something big always does but the pacing to get us to that point has been reallllllllllllll deliberate. 

 
Am I the only one who saw big brave Negan using one of his guys as a human shield, keeping himself behind the lackey while first talking to Carl? That isn't saying that Carl couldn't have shot them both if he, you know, actually shot at Negan as was his plan.  

Negan has zero care about any of his people, they really are disposable to him. Kill 20-30 of his guys and all he is trying to do is convert you to join him and become one of his next crew.

I think it's safe to say Negan doesn't give a chit about anyone other than Negan.

he sauntered, whistling over to the guy, and then yeah- used him as a shield. coral's plan was to wait things out after coming out guns' blazing... play mind-games with the guy later in spite of an open shot or eight. and also get a taste of that sweet, sweet harem.

what's interesting abuot negan to me- is that he's a sadistic psychopath... but can also be really polite. 

but kinda dumb how he consistently puts himself diretly into situations where he's alone or without immediate guard. you'd figure the way he treats his people or their allies or enemies that it would be really easy for somebody to just put a bullet into him.

He's definitely over-confident. Whether that ends up coming back to haunt him at some point remains to be seen. So far the only person in his crew who appears to have any issues with him is Dwight but he's such a chickenchit at times there's no way he'd stand up against him on his own. If Dwight took out Negan it seems pretty clear Simon would kill Dwight immediately and Dwight probably knows that so there's no way he'd even consider that type of plan on his own.      

 
The writing on this show went from bad to comically bad.   This show is amature hour.  I'm out.  I know.  You don't care.

At this point, zombies are Canon fodder... doesn't bother me at all if they don't show the actual head shot- it's assumed.

at this point, I'm in for next week. I'm sure they're going to unleash the hounds in terms of drama... we'll see just how goofy it gets. but I'm at a point where I've invested enough time to watch another week. that said- it's stopped being something I feel like I have to watch "live". it has transitioned into the realm of DVRed shows that I may or may not get to.

I could only watch one show Sunday night. I chose westworld. Watched Walking Dead at 5:00am after a call from my kids school for a 2 hour delay woke me up

I didnt mind this episode though. I try not to think about how stupid some stuff is in a show about zombies. The no shot of Neegan by Carl did bother me though.

I always love the "see you next week" comments as if no one actually givves up on shows. I almost never come back to a show after quitting it. Most recently was Homeland, Orphan Black and Mr. Robot ( although that was after only one season). My wife gave up on Walking Dead last season and I'm close but will stick it out to the midseason finale. I usually don't even get around to watching the episodes until days or a week later. It's just so bad. Not really worth the time but I'll give it a couple more.

Right.  It's pretty funny to think that this episode was the straw that broke the camel's back.  This was right on par with the past few seasons.

Lost and Orphan Black for me. Probably won't follow up on Bosch either. Undecided on Orange Is The New Black.

:confused: Season 4 of Orphan Black was awesome.

I wonder if the trick is to wait until they're released on video/streaming. This is the first season of TWD where I'm watching weekly and it sucks.

 
We stopped watching 2 weeks ago and haven`t look backed.  In our opinion it has turned into a ridiculous and awful show.  It just keeps rehashing the same plot lines over and over again.  It could have gone down as one of the greats if they just would have made it 3 seasons long but as is typical they are trying to squeeze as much out of it as they can and by the end few will be watching.

That`s just our opinion.  I`m sure there are others that still love it

 
Definitely been the worst season of the show to date. The first two episodes were so damn good but just nothing much since then. Few moments (Negan to Alexandria episode was good) but generally not much that I would put on par with the greatness of seasons past. Got a lot of work to do to pick things up.

That was the one that completely lost me.  It was the storyline as a whole that was just stupid.  That spent all these season building Rick into this hard cold mad man and in one episode he is broken and just gives the guns over without a plan or anything.  That was just cheap and lazy IMO.

He'd been broken since last season's finale and this season's premier so not sure I follow you here. He didn't want anyone else to die so of course he gave the guns up. Rick's motivations aren't difficult to understand at all in my opinion. I'm fine with how Rick's been portrayed this season. My issue is we can't have him being Negan's ##### for much longer. At some point real real soon he needs to snap back to being BadAssRickGrimes again. This season and the show's future may well depend on it.

I think when Rick gets back to Alexandria and sees Baby Judith with Negan and Coral with his bandages off he's gonna start to come back.

 
I don't think this season would be as bad if Negan wasn't such a lame villain. I haven't read the comics, but he was built up as some serious bad-###, but the version on the show is just goofy. he doesn't come across as intimidating or tough, just as some sort of arrogant dork who needs to be smacked in the mouth. his mannerisms are exhausting. and he's got all of these tough looking guys in his crew, and they kneel for this Fonzie reject? I don't buy it.

and Carl telling Negan to jump out the window to save him the trouble of killing him...YOU HAD AN AUTOMATIC RIFLE POINTED AT HIS FREAKING FACE!!!! stupid kids...

this episode was worse than the last one...at least that one had Tara's cans.

I for one am really enjoying that the writers are bringing the Olivia - Keegan love angle to the forefront.  IIIIII"M STARVING...... Starving for love baby, now go make me some lemonade. 

 
The Carl in the back of the truck plan was exactly as stupid as a cabbage shooting cannon in the back of a truck that I saw on the A-Team once. And that is pretty stupid.

Slight bump in the ratings for this episode. I would attribute that to the heavy marketing AMC did all week saying the episode was featuring many of the fan favorites. No question there's a sense at the network that people are tuning out because the season has drifted away heavily from the core group. Wonder if Gimple's gotten any calls about that.

all the villains are cartoons. I'm sure it's why the comic book fans love them, and why so far they don't translate at all to a "drama" on TV.

When I'm out, I'm out.  I watch the majority of my weekly shows through DVR, and if I take a show off my record list, I'll never catch it "live".

The last show was "Designated Survivor" about 4 weeks ago, and I haven't missed it.

I'm kind of in this camp, but it's hard to think of someone that could have done the role better.  All the guys I can think of are past their "menacing and charismatic" prime (Ving Rhames, Willem Dafoe, etc.), or priced out of their market (Christian Bale would be killer in that role). 

I know at some point we're going to get a Negan backstory, and it might even shed some light on why people follow him.  But good grief they've been so over the top that you wonder if 90% of the people in their camp weren't thinking "take the shot Coral!".  Me as a viewer?  I didn't care if Carl killed him right there or not.  Negan is kind of 'meh' for me right now.

What made you give up on Orphan Black? Season 3 was rough but I heard 4 was outstanding.

Homeland was very good season 5, season 4 was garbage. I'm glad I stuck with it though.

 
I have a really hard time buying Negan as this great villain.  He killed 2 people in the first episode and now he doesn't do anything to hurt anyone.  Carl tries to kill him and then threatens to kill him later.  No problem.  Daryl punches him and refuses to bow down.  Not a big deal.  Rick's group has killed about 20 saviors to every person Negan kills.

Just getting to a point when you've seen enough of a show and don't expect much more from it. Homeland after season 4. It just got more and more ridiculous  and unrealistic after the first season. Each season got progressively worse. I'm not even sure if we finished season 4. I don't think we did. Orphan Black just kind of ended at a good point with season 3, with them all sitting around the table. It's a good show but just seemed like it was unfocused and spinning its wheels. I've heard good things about season 4 but I won't go back to it. Once shows have that one real clunker of a season, I'm quick to bail. Unless I really love the show. I put up with Dexter until the end.

Yeah except when he burns a dude's face with an iron.  Which he's already done to his right hand man as well.

It's obvious that Negan feels people are just assets that can be used, traded, killed off, sent away, or brought in.  He said that Daryl is going to be a "great soldier for him". 

Not trying to make excuses for the show, which has really sucked butt this season, but hoping it comes back in a big way for the mid-season finale. 

Negan's been overly done/dramatic up until this past episode.  He was pretty good in E7.  Creepy.

If by next week we're still stuck in "meh" I'll be more than a little concerned.

 
Why are they doing all these longer episodes this season?  The last three were 90, 75, and 90.  Nothing is going on in the show, just biding time until a finale where they can make something happen.  So why drag on these mostly boring episodes for longer?
