Even so, both teams had the same handicap. Carla failed epically with it, while Stefan adapted and shined.

Did anyone notice that everyone was complaining of the freezers failing, and shortly after they were promoting their sponsor GE, saying that they use all their appliances on the show? Nice juxtaposition. :scared:

I could see an all European final, plus the dude from Florida, since they have three in the final; usually.

Fabio is lucky he didn't go home last night. His days are numbered, IMO. In the past 4-5 episodes, he hasn't had a single "really good" dish. Hosea, Stefan and Jeff are in a different tier from the rest of the contestants. There will have to be a major screw-up for one of them to get canned before the final . . . of course, next week is restaurant wars . . . the traditional week for big screw-ups. Butterscotch scallops, anyone?

This season is a downer for me. You can sense the judge's are supremely disappointed with what the quality of what's being cooked . . . it's hard to get excited when the judge's are sitting there scowling the entire time.

I still think Fabio gets closer than some here think he will. Basically because I think Jeff is good but too scattered, Hosea will be right there, but he has got to get his head in the game, and both chicks have serious weaknesses. So I guess I don't agree that Jeff > Fabio if it boils down to that; which I think it would if were having this conversation over beers :lmao: As to the judges, I just think they are getting more and more critical as they get experience with the show. I still think Stephan, Hosea, Jeff, Fabio, and even Jamie are the best core this show has seen; relatively speaking that is. The judges are just having less and less patience with the "rest of the group" if you will.

"Unfortunately for you my opinion is the only one that matters" One of my favorite lines ever from Tom in last year's show.

I do like Jeff but he never really seemed to get it together. He had lots of recipes in his cache and great restaurant experience with all the talent the world, but I think he failed to put it all on the plate at any point during the season. I perceived him to be a lot weaker then the board apparently did.I'll still root for Stefan - I actually like him. Then again, I also rooted for Marcel. I like the guys that come to cook, are cocky and dont give a crap what people think of them and let their food do the talking.Can't stand Jaime - she's a pretentious c u next tuesday if you catch my drift.

Anyone else hate how the show pretends it's filmed the same week we watch it?

Padma today "As you know the Super Bowl is right around the corner..." Bull $#@$#!!!

Same goes for the Thanksgiving and Xmas episodes.

Stefan - 3/2. Best chef of the bunch, easily, but that does not guarantee victory. See last year for evidence, when Richard Blais was the class of the field but spit the bit in the finale.

Hosea - 7/2. He can cook, and will be better off once Leah gets punted. Seems to have some range in terms of being able to cook meat, fish, etc.

Fabio - 4/1. Seems to be fading each week, but can still pull off some really good Italian. if he leanrs to keep it simple, will be in the final 3.

Jamie - 5/1. Cooks seasonally and actually got away from scallops for a change. Her odds dropped this week, but might be too pouty and immature to win. She'll be in the final 3 - they won't take 3 guys.

Jeff - 9/1. Has good ideas but seems to get in trouble when he freelances and doesn't have a recipe he uses in his restaurant to fall back on. Will flame out spectacularly at some point

Leah - 20/1. She can cook, but is way too inconsistent and has an awful attitude to boot. She's not long for the show.

Carla - 100/1. Can only do desserts, and doesn't even do that as well as Stefan. No chance. She's been on the brink of elimination since before Xmas and is out of her depth.

No way Jamie wins with her attitude. She will blow one of these challenges big time.

You missed the point. Jaime's food is garbage IMO, one dimensional. Soups and Seafood, nothing else.

Yeah. I remember the Christmas episode, Stefan and some other chef were sitting there with huge smirks on their faces when Padma was talking about Christmas coming up.And I'm pulling for Stefan...

Hard for me to believe this won't come down to Stefan, Hosea, and Jamie at this point with the ousting of the other 3 in any order you wish.

 
i was sad to see Jeff go, i thought fabio would get booted for over cooking his protein and argueing during judges table.

to me that third spot in the finals just opened up, Stefan and Jamie are all but locks, will be interesting to see who steps up

 
The thing about Jeff is he constantly knew throughout this show what his weakness was. He said on several occassions that he needed to stop over thinking dishes and making them so complicated. That said he could not get out of his own way.

Now, that being said, I was really shocked that they kept Fabio and the cynic in me can't help but wonder if someone intervened here to keep the more "charismatic" character around. Still an awesome show and as strange as Carla is, I can't help but sort of root for her even though her days are numbered.

 
Why is Fabio still there? Other than the charm and the accent, he has not impressed me at all. A couple good dishes and it seems more often than not, something is either missing, or just done wrong (like overcooking the venison).

Jeff simply ignored what he himself recognized as his biggest weakness, and paid the price for it. Was bound to happen sooner or later.

I have to agree hereJust from the way Judge's Table was depicted I was sure Fabio was going homeI think it is likely one of two things (or a combo of the two)1. A desire to keep the "more interesting" chef around when it is close2. That Jeff's dish really didn't taste very good. That's the biggest issue difficulty in watching this show as opposed to other reality shows where you can hear or see the finished product. Although they were critical of both Fabio and Jeff's dish, I think the likelihood was that Jeff's was just a bit worse

I am glad Jeff is gone, because I didnt like him, but there is a disclaimer at the end of all these "reality" shows how the decision of the judges are made in consultation with the producers.Jeff is boring. Fabio is ratings. Same goes for Carla. why do you think she is still around, she cant cook? I like her. She makes good TV. Leah better start ####### Hosea if she wants to stay around.
 
I was surprised Jeff got the boot. Usually the judges are pretty merciless with fundamental cooking errors at this stage. I thought Fabio's overcooked venison would hang him, but apparently Jeff missing the mark on what should have been a lay up for him was a bigger factor. It really doesn't matter, IMO. This show has been all Stephan and a battle for second place since about week 4. I really like him and expect him to win easily.

Carla is the worst chef on the show. A good dessert here and there.

What has happened is that one chef has always screwed up a little more than Carla on a given week, she is on borrowed time.

i'm pretty sure that colicchio has final say. he might be keen to create drama but it's still his verdict.

Even though the elimination challenge was exciting last night, I think it was a poor choice for an elimination this late in the season. Seriously, what would have happened if Jeff and Fabio had managed to win over 2 more judges each? Stefan would have been the only H2H loser and he would have gone home.

I really hate to see 20 minute cooking challenges determining who goes home when we're down to the final group. Especially when success is measured against people not even competing this season. I'm sorry but Leah has no business still being in this when someone like Jeff, Fabio or Stefan was up for the boot last night. I know it's a competition and you have to be prepared for twists, etc., but they are trying to identify the best chef, not who can pan sear a piece of steak.

Leah has to be the worst final 6 contestant in the history of this show. There are probably 50 people on this board that could have prepared what she did last night . . . it was piece of steak with a simple salad on top.

Anyway, that's my vent. Last night was entertaining, but I hated the challenge itself. Jeff was not the best chef, but it sucked to see him ousted under those circumstances last night.

I think it will be close between Carla and Jamie, since I agree that more than likely they want a chick in the finals.

But you have to admit he did not listen to the instructions.No room for error at this point, he should have known better. Though I agree if he would have went home the "top chef" would have left with him.

:goodposting: If you gave Stefan Fabio's accent they could end the season now.If Stefan doesn't win it will be the biggest fix since the Mike Tyson/Buster Douglas fight.

They got to prep first. For 2 hours IIRC. You think it takes them 20 minutes to put out any pan dish at their restaurant? Doubtful.

I ditched liking Hosea because he was stupid enough to tryst with Leah. I like Carla and Fabio but they're just not that good. Jamie has a horrible personality. I can't support Stefan. :unsure:

Well again, I had him #1 on my board (you'll recall you let me in the Jeff group even though he was my #2), but anyone stoopid enough to allow the distraction of hooking up with a girl on the show, and a really dumb girl who can't cook to boot, is hard for me to support. :unsure:
