Official US Women's soccer thread: *** US to host 2031 Women's World Cup! (2 Viewers)

From Grant Wahl - Fact of the matter is goal-difference could really matter in the group, and so Jill Ellis is right to do a Tom Osborne here.

It’s probably not a good idea for your GK to be the shortest person on the field. Her reaction times seem like an 80-year old too.

Edit: actually made a good save while I was typing this.

A lot of times, in youth soccer they have the slow little kid play goalie. Under normal circumstances they don’t make it to the national team...

goal differential does come into play in terms of who you play in the knock-out stages.

more goals now = likely lesser opponent later.

I'm not that knowledgeable about most of the players on the team, but aren't Lloyd and Pugh (who were both subbed in) two of the better goal scorers?  Kind of seems like the subs were intended to get more of the US women goals...not to go easy on Thailand.

I don't know the team very well, and didn't watch the game, but according to the listed positions it appears Pugh for Ertz was subbing offense for defense. Meaning, your guess seems correct.

According to Wikipedia, the most goals scored in a Women's World Cup was Michelle Akers with 10 in 1991.  Morgan is gunning for that record.
