I'm still more scared of going against ADP than any player in the league, including Chris Johnson. Every freakin' time he touches the ball he looks like he could go to the house. To get out of that game with only 9 points from him is like makin' a deal with the devil. Had my Saints D outscore ADP and Meacham (thanks for the drop). Good way to start the year.

Actually thought Favre looked fine - made some beautiful throws, had some drops and some near misses. He will miss Rice though. I don't know if Harvin will be the same player without Rice drawing attention. Camarillo and Shaincoe may be the two Brett relies on all year.

Yeah, Favre just needs some more time to get in sync with his receivers. There is still plenty of football to be played. I hope that the Vikes can take the next two and go 2-1 into their bye. However, I am not thrilled by the likely drama that will ensue if they go 1-2 or 0-3 into the bye.

I think most teams in the NFL would be thrilled if Cam/Shiancoe are their go to players the rest of the year. They are solid NFL players but can be controlled by decent defenses. They simply do not have the ability to take games over the way Rice was able to last season.

Interesting stats from @jeffduncantp:

- The 14 points is the lowest total by the Saints in a victory in the Sean Payton era

- The Saints held the Vikings to two 1st downs & 65 yards total offense in the 2nd half

- All 5 of the Vikes' 2nd-half drives ended in punts

- Saints owned a dominant 21:07-8:53 advantage in time of possession in the second half

both teams looked rusty but the saints played a little better on both sides of the ball.
Basically. Was Jared Allen active? :scared:
The most disappointing thing to me is the way Bushrod owned Allen. I don't understand why the Vikings don't adjust their pass rush when they fail to get pressure. Why not swap Allen positions with Edwards? Hit, fight or do something.
:P Brees does an amazing job at making his protection look better then they are the way he slide around in the pocket, but Allen need to regrow the mullet or something because that performance was anemic.

I think you should be happy with what kind of Favre you're getting this year, but they didn't look like a Super Bowl contender. Anything can happen, but the window might have passed already. They caught the Saints flat, had a boost at the end of the first half and still couldn't get it done. Fortunately, 2-1 seems very realistic headed into the bye.

really bad coaching on Childress in second half
Chilly is horrible and I thought it was gutless to punt on their final drive. Sure it was 4th down but they had maybe a 20% chance of actually getting the ball back and of course they didn't.
:hifive: 5 minutes left, ball on the Saints side of the field, Vikings for the first time in the 2nd half had actually moved the ball, only 2 time outs left and your defense was wearing down and he decides to punt. :wall: :wall:Nice to see no matter who is out there playing Childress will continue to "m"uck up games. :banned:

seems a little early to be throwing in the towel. Last year it took Favre 3 or 4 games before he "woke up".Considering what was out on the field for CB's I thought the Defense did a Hell of a job :banned: :wall:

Favre will get some more practice time in now with the WR's he does have.

Still have NO IDEA why Cammarillo was MIA until the 2nd half :hifive:

If I were the Vikings I'd be VERY tempted to see what the Chargers want for Vincent Jackson IF his suspension gets reduced to 3 games.

Vikings have a bye week 4 so they could use that week to get him into the fold..

IF they get Rice back, the receivers for Favre will be set with VJ, Rice, Harvin, Carmillo, V. S.

Who had final say in playcalling last night? Chilly or Favre? Doesn't Favre override Chilly's playcalling at times? Perhaps it was Favre that wanted to put the offense in his hands instead of Peterson's.

The Saints offense is the least of my worries really. They will tweak things out for the next game although the 49ers defense will present a huge test as well. The defense on the other hand needs to keep making strides, hopefully having Sharper back will will make it possible to do more packages. I am still a bit concerned about the LB's with exception of Jonathan Vilma. ADP was running too strong especially earlier in the game and we all know that the Saints division opponents like to pound the run. In a nut shell, a very sluggish first game but the sky is not falling. PT and Bush both look better this year than last year! That may help drew Brees avoid the Madden curse.

If Adrain Peterson is "Purple Jesus" than Favre and Childress are Judas and Pontius Pilate. They both destroy Petersons value in fantasy and real life with their bonehead play calling and in Favres case... selfishness.

I enjoyed that game, mainly because I love to see the different looks the Saints give defensively. Gregg Williams will continue to give offenses headaches all season long. The way the Vikings were able to handle the pressure (at times) was pretty admirable from their standpoint. I hope Bryant McKinnie is good to go in Week 2, because Loadholt really struggled at LT.

I thought Favre looked a lot better than I expected him to. It just seemed as though the chemistry was lacking with his receivers. Credit to the Saints for playing good coverage in the secondary. Roman Harper was particularly impressive. Childress got away from the run way too quickly in the second half, if you ask me.

Good win by the Saints overall, but I think aspects of their performance raise some questions about how good they will be this season. I have no doubt they'll win 11-12 games, but you can bet Payton will want to get this offense into gear from next week.

I'd just like to say that Brees is amazing. Every time a defender gets close to him you just know he's going to escape. It's frustrating as a Vikes fan but the Saints fans must love it.

This game was very disappointing fantasy-wise, IMO. Not as much scoring as hoped from all of my players involved.

Only guys to really do well were Pierre Thomas and Shiancoe. After that everyone underperformed a bit (though no absolute busts, I guess).

From Michael Silver's article this morning at Yahoo Sports:
Was Peterson tired after the game? “Not at all,” he answered.

Did he want the ball more? “I’ll do whatever it takes,” he answered. “Whatever it takes to help this team win. I don’t know if Coach [brad Childress] heard me, but I remember walking by in the second half on the sideline saying, ‘Hey, give it to me. Feed me.’ I don’t know if he really heard me. But there’s a lot to learn from this game.”
Childress has a very short leash, I think. The players will turn on him and Favre.

i thought it was interesting that GW opted for a lot of 3-man fronts, especially in obvious passing situations. They weren't going to get or hurry Favre with that. The D-line is better than our LB corps by a pretty wide margin. I'd rather have 4 linemen attacking the QB than asking Dunbar, Mitchell or whoever to blitz. I feel better about their ability to pressure a QB while asking one of our LBs to drop into coverage for a much shorter period of time, y'know?

Again I am floored they did not feed ADP 40 touches. It was their only shot to win this game.

Their coaching staff is really clueless. I just don't get it.

Take this game for what it was. Two teams that are not in sync yet, nothing more. Minny will be fine in the fact that they will make the playoffs (not win the division) and the Saints are still the team to beat in the NFC with the Packers right on their heels. One thing troublesome for the Vikes was how out of sync Favre was with Harvin. With Rice out that leaves the Vikes without a go to wr for Favre. The Vikes will not be as good as last season but hey they were damn good last year. As for the Saints they really impressed me with how they were more physical at the point of attack on both lines. If they can smash mouth teams at the end of games like they did the Vikes last night they will be very very hard to beat and I would say in the Super Bowl again. That was impressive how they ran the ball for sure in the second half vs one of the best run d's in the league.

Now lets see what else transpires the rest of the weekend. It will be interesting.

As for Fantasy Pierre Thomas was left dead to rights after the first half with his owners overreacting only to see why they pick him as their #2 back this year with a strong 2cnd half. Dree Brees looked like a world beater in each of his opening drives of the half taking the Saints right down the field for td's. Then not much of anything on the rest of the drives. Although there were many drops and near misses that could have had Brees having another big night. He will be fine everyone knows that. Reggie Bush looked good in the first half catching passes and making his owners feel like dancing in ppr leagues only to ruin their night and be invisible in the second half. Thomas is the back to own make no mistake about it. Colston had a good nigh with 5 grabs but nothing to get excited about and the same for Henderson even though he had a td. None of these Saints wr's after Colston are going to be consistent enough to be a top 4 wr for your squad. The same goes with Shockey Brees just spreads the ball around way to much. Stay away.

For the Vikes Adrian Peterson looked like a beast as usual. He had a below average game only having 101 total yards and never even sniffing the endzone. Still he is a top option every week with an explosion at any moment . Brett Favre is starting to show his age but he will still be a low end qb1 but this year will look nothing like last season with Rice out and no wr ready to be a #1 he will be in a bit of trouble this year. Berrian and Harvin looked bla last night although I think Harvin will be a good wr3 over the season. Harvin will have a lot of targets this season and will have some big games. Shiancoe looked like the only player Favre trusted and will be a te1 this year and should have double digit td again this season.

Horrible game plan by Childress, and no sense of urgency from Favre. This team is doomed if they come out like that every week.

You gotta imagine that if Childress would've been guaranteed in advance a 14-point night out of the Saint's offense, he'd have taken it in a heartbeat. It was really a weird game in retrospect.

ya think?
It may be obvious to you, perhaps you are a football genius. Most of the blame on this board for the poor playcalling is pointed at Childress.

most definitely. also, whatever the vikes were doing ten yards downfield to negate the deep threat was working beautifully, as pretty much all of drew's throws were short routes.

:goodposting: The Vikes had DB injuries, and came in thin ... but Winfield and Sheppard were both elite NFL corners very recently, weren't they? Their experience seemed to have made a big difference -- looked a lot like when C McAllister and McKenzie had a cup of coffee with the Saints against the Patriots last season. Don't think Winfield or Sheppard are done just yet.

i was reading a column on Slate earlier where the game was discussed. This point was made:
For me, though, the most interesting thing about this game is that the New Orleans passing game stopped working. If you go by the box score, the Saints threw the ball well—Drew Brees completed 27 of 36 passes for 237 yards. But this game was a lesson in how little has to go wrong for even the league's most-prolific offense not to score points: One dropped pass on third down and you have to punt.Tom, it's funny that your last entry ended with a wish for Donovan McNabb: "Lots of well-thrown balls dropped by his receivers." I just fast-forwarded through the game and re-watched all nine of Brees' incompletions. Of those nine missed passes, only three—three!—did not hit a Saints receiver in the hands: a throw that went maybe six inches past Henderson's fingertips, another that was tipped away from David Thomas at the last second, and a pass on the run that was almost intercepted. So, Drew Brees made one inaccurate pass all night. The Saints still scored just 14 points.

One thing I noticed about the Vikings running back that was giving Peterson a spell...he kept stopping in his tracks and dancing his feet around instead of actually running forward. This bothers me. Unless you're Barry freakin' Sanders and are capable of juking guys doing this, please stop.

Harvin: Buy Low or Stay Away??
I think people are over reacting to one game. He showed his talent last year. Both he and Brett missed a lot of training camp. They'll get more in synch as the season goes, just like Rice did last year with Brett.
Agreed...if you have an owner who was weary of the migraines and now already scared by the one bad game, try to exploit it...he is too talented and should rebound nicely.

We agree. Performance left much to be desired but the Saints are a well coached team. They will correct things for sure. The Personnel is pretty much the same as last season with exception of Scott Fujita and Sharper who will be back in 5 games. they know what they need to do because they have been there. Is the hunger the same? I don't know but we will see if they lay an egg in the next game.
