***OFFICIAL*** Washington Commanders Thread (2 Viewers)

He's still an owner because they know he will litigate this thing into the ground, and bring whomever with him.  He's an awful human being.  And he doesn't care that people think that.  He's going nowhere.  It doesn't matter if it's accounting, HR, on the field, off the field.  The guy is not going away.  We're stuck with him for a long time.  I just hope I outlive him to see the end of this fiasco of an ownership

So Commander fans (man that sounds weird) it sounds like we really aren't considering a QB in the 1st (which I'm good with) so is everyone hoping we go WR, CB, LB, or G?

I really hope we go WR. If this investment in Wentz is going to ever pay off, why not give him a few legitimate weapons? If Samuel can make it back great, but between he and Brown both giving us nothing last year, I think we really should go WR as long as we can get a top 3 WR. You guys agree?  And who's top on your wish list, Wilson? London? Burks? Williams?

I assume almost all of us would prefer they move down to get back some extra picks, but it never seems to happen

I've goofed off on some of the mock draft simulators just cause it's kind of fun.  Not sure they mean much.  But I've done it enough to figure out they can go WR (Wilson being tops, then Olave or London ... the latter appears to be falling though)

Then get QB, RB, TE, OL, or LB in the later rounds.  I could see them taking Rd 2 QB if Ridder or Howell is there.  After that 2nd round pick I think the rest of the QBs are trash.

If they don't get a WR in round 1, they aren't going to get a difference maker at that position.  I know it's deep at that position but when I goof off with the mocks I barely know the players that are available.

If not WR, I'd like them to go for whichever CB falls.  Stingley would be a great addition IMO.

There are some nice LBs available deep in the draft.  No reason to reach like they did last year on that position.

If it is proven that he embezzled what was deemed as shared revenue with the other 31 owners, he's gone and quickly.

When it comes to litigation, this shouldn't be an issue at all, as the NFL has much deeper pockets than Daniel Snyder.

The U.S. House Committee on Oversight and Reform alleges the Commanders withheld as much as $5 million in refundable deposits from season ticket holders.

In a letter to the Federal Trade Commission, the house committee -- which has investigated the Commanders' culture of sexual harassment --- said the franchise may have cheated season ticket holders and kept money intended to be shared with the NFL's other 31 teams. “Given the Federal Trade Commission’s (FTC) authority to investigate unfair or deceptive business practices, we are providing the information and documents uncovered by the Committee for your review, to determine if the Commanders violated any provision of law enforced by FTC and whether further action is warranted,” the committee’s letter said. “We request that you take any other action you deem necessary to ensure that all funds are returned to their rightful owners and that those responsible are held accountable for their conduct.” As lawmakers' investigation continues to turn up damning evidence of financial malfeasance, pressure will build among NFL owners to remove Daniel Snyder as Washington's owner. Allegations of withholding money from season ticket holders might be the death knell for Washington fans' support of the once-proud franchise.

If this doesn't get our POS owner out, we might as well just accept Satan is running the show until Jesus comes back and takes us all home. At that point, I hope Snyder burns up with the Earth ;)

I'm kind of a mixed mind about this.   There are probably more than a few owners that are stealing from the fans, and they know if they punish Snyder they are opening themselves up to also being put under the spotlight.   It would have been easier to kick him out if he were just stealing from the other owners, as they could play the victim.  There's the possibility that this just forces the NFL to "handle things behind closed doors".

have not seen what Friedman's role actually was.

could be a low level key accounting clerk who "saw" things, but maybe not the whole picture.

Probably true that the Redskins delayed refunds as long as possible, but did they in the end actually keep the money?

in any event, somebody with juice really wants Snyder out and is dredging up what ever they can to make the most sensational media headlines

The 20-page letter, a copy of which was obtained by The Washington Post, freshly details allegations made by Jason Friedman, a former vice president of sales and customer service who worked for the franchise for 24 years.

My god, it gets sleazier. Incredible.

Friedman was the former Vice President of Sales and Customer Service.

He even provided the Committee with spreadsheets and documentation.

Congrats Redskins FOOTBALL TEAM, Commanders fans!
Yeah and the funniest part is one of the dudes in this thread likes to come in Dallas thread and jab at Jerry Jones, the owner that’s done more positive for the NFL and its revenue sharing than anyone. 😆  Some (not all) fans deserve Danny Boy.

Probably not the best thread to expect admiration for Jerry Jones.  :lmao:

If Jones has done more positive than anyone else in the NFL than they should burn it down and start over. The only reason cowboy fans rush to lick the.... "boot" of Dan Snyder is without him in the league Jones would be a front page story.

Almost go time.  Tomorrow is the most exciting day in any Commander fan's life, because the regular season always sucks.  How we long for the days of bad offseason moves and trades to have something to talk about.

Needs...

  • TE
  • CB
  • OL
  • LB
  • RB
  • S
  • QB
  • WR
  • DL
... So no matter who they pick, it fills a position of extreme need.  Awesome.

Best option is potentially trading all our picks for 2023 picks for the next GM/coach.

I wouldn't go that far but I can't think of a team that NEEDS to trade down in this draft more.

Please, whatever they do don't draft another DLman. They can't afford all the ones they have drafted over and over and over.

If Strong really does start falling to 113 I hope they draft him. I'm cautiously optimistic about Wentz but if he truly is terrible they need to pull the plug and just go with Heinicke and..... WHOEVER so they don't pull an INDY and play Wentz just enough to give up a higher pick while whining they knew it would never work all along.

Chase Young.  Jamin Davis.  Jahan Dotson.  Not a good resume of first picks.  Don't convince yourself Dotson is good.  He's not.

What do you base that on??? He's been comp'd to Diontae Johnson, but better hands.

"Dotson particularly impressed on his go routes and deep ball tracking" (during pro day)

Penn State pass catchers with the highest career grades (since 2014)

🔵 Jahan Dotson: 82.4
⚪️ Chris Godwin: 81.4
🔵 Pat Freiermuth: 79.9

I'm not saying he's the #1 in this class, but he was going in the first round somewhere, and seems to have a lot of positives in his game and very little red flags. Kind of like Terry coming into the league....

But I do think this was a very good pick for us, but they have to cash in on the 3rd and 4th.
That's the key.

They need to find starters in the 3rd and 4th and that makes the first round a homerun.

For instance I've seen Bryan Cook(S)Cincinnati or Ed Ingram(LSU)OG get mocked to pick #98 and either would be a week #1 starter imo. If you go Ingram at #98, I like JT Woods(S)Baylor at pick #120. If you go Cook at #98 I like Lecitus Smith(OG)VaTech at #120. But there are lots of options at #120 or earlier if you don't think OG/S are big holes to fill.

Brandon Smith(LB)PennSt would be an athletic LB that could develop into 3-down-starter. If the contract talks are going poorly with McLaurin and you think that you'll have to move on I really like Kyle Phillips(UCLA), Kevin Austin Jr(Notre Dame), Tyquaon Thornton(Baylor), Justyn Ross(Clemson) at WR. They really need to decide soon what they will end up doing with McLaurin because signing cheap veteran WR's in FA may be a thing of the distant past. If the market value for McLaurin creeps close to $30mil/season AND you are trying to re-sign most of the D Line I'm not sure you want to spend all that... and still not know if you have a QB or not.

so your telling me we could have just traded for AJ brown?   sigh
I don't know. Let's say you trade for AJ Brown. Then I assume you still re-sign McLaurin, right? So after signing those two guys have AJ Brown/McLaurin/Samuel taking up about 1/3rd your salary cap.... and you're still not sure you have anyone that can actually throw to them.

That ignores the fact that the 4 first round DLman you've drafted in the 1st round are going to absorb nearly another third of your salary cap by the time Chase signs on the dotted line eventually.

True.

I think whatever we get with the 3rd and 4th, we'd have been better off not trading down and taking Hamilton.

I was excited when we traded down, and then distraught with the results. Let's be real, most other years Dotson is a 2nd or 3rd round pick. He's undersized (both in height and weight/strength), he's fast but plenty are faster, he's a senior who only managed to get to "pretty good" at the college level. He's twitchy and has great hands, but I don't know that is enough for him to find success at the NFL level. Maybe, but the guy is not a lock to succeed, and certainly a gamble taken in the top half of round 1.

If we were definitely going to take a WR, we should've stuck to 11 and taken one of the two that went at 11 and 12. Dotson at 16 was a poor value, he could've been had in the 20s (and IMO, shouldn't have been a day 1 pick). But really, we should've taken Hamilton. Guys like that change the game, and you shouldn't let such players go when they fall to you.

My understanding is that in other years Dotson would have gone higher.  And that this year mid rounds are going to have more talent due to players who did not want to leave college last year.  If that’s the case then those picks should pay off.  But i think it will be hard to tell until we see what’s there.

I think they outsmarted themselves...again. Kyle Hamilton fell right into the Ravens lap at 14.
They did.

I don't think that they were prepared to have Drake London get picked by Atlanta at 1.08.   I don't think London was expected that either;   if you noticed, London was wearing a BURGUNDY colored suit on Draft Night.   They thought they'd still get Hamilton after Jameson and Olave went off the board and they were wrong  .

Watched a lot of PSU games.  All but 2 of them last year.  If you are that fast and can't separate it's an issue.  Forget what I saw.  Watch his "highlights".  So boring.  I think he'll be lucky to see the field this season.  Maybe if some other players get hurt.

Should have traded down again.  Mayhew said he got offers to.

I mean I'm no Willis lover, but you gotta take him don't you?  It's worth a chance he's a stud in 1-2 years

ETA ... nevermind
